  • Chlorosulfonated polyethylene(CSM) was moisture-cure after treating them with silane coupling agents such as ${\gamma}-mercapto$ propyl trimethoxy silane, ${\gamma}-glycidoxy$ propyl triethoxy silane and methyl triethoxy silane, 3-(trimethoxy silyl) propyl methacrylate and 3-thiocyanopropyl triethoxy silane. The cure reaction is composed two steps. The first is the reaction between chlorosulfonyl groups of CSM and silane coupling agents. The second is the formation of cross-links which are siloxane linkage. The linkage is formed by the condensation of silanol groups which are produced by the hydrolysis of alkoxysilyl groups. CSM was mixed with MPS etc., and dilaurate dilaurate as catalyst on two open mill and the compounds were lured in hot water at $70^{\circ}C$ Physical properties of moisture-cured CSM was measured. CSM was effectively moisture-cured and r-mercapto propyl trimethoxy silane and r-glycidoxy propyl trimethoxy silane were capable of the vulcanizing agents.

  • In order to increase the compatibility of polypropylene (PP) and kenaf fiber (KF) felt, PP/KF and PP/KF/polyurethane (PU) felt composites were prepared by treating KF with three kinds of silane coupling agents. The concentration of silane coupling agents was fixed at 1 wt%. The chemical reaction between KF and silane coupling agents was confirmed by the existence of Si-O-Si and Si-O-C functional group bands appeared on FT-IR and X-ray photoelectron spectra (XPS). Thermal properties of PP/KF composites were investigated by DSC and TGA, and the thermal stability of PP/KF composites with treated KF increased. Based on tensile, flexural and impact properties of PP/KF and PP/KF/PU composites, 1-2 wt% of (3-aminopropyl)triethoxysilane (APS) contents were the optimum formulation as a compatibilizer. The tensile and flexural strength of the felt composites treated with the silane coupling agents were improved. This is mainly due to the improvement in the compatibility between PP and KF, which was confirmed by SEM images of the fractured surfaces after tension tests.

  • The cross-coupling reaction of organo tin reagents with a variety of organic halides, catalyzed by palladium, provides a novel method for generating a carbon-carbon bond. We use this method for antibacterial agents, and synthesis of new quinolone derivatives which have carbon-carbon bond at C-7 position of general quinolone moieties. Aryl tin, quinolone moieties, and palladium catalyst were refluxed in DMF to afford new quinolone derivatives. This palladium catalyzed coupling reactions have capacity for further synthetic elaboration.

  • Inorganic-organic hybrid coating solutions were synthesized using titania sol from titanium isopropoxide (TTIP) as an inorganic component and mixture of two or three types of silane coupling agents, such as methacryloxypropyl trimethoxysilane (MPTMS), aminopropyl triethoxysilane (APS), glycidoxypropyl trimethoxysilane (GPTMS) and vinyltriethoxysilane (VTES) as an organic component. The hard coating films were obtained by spin-coating on the polycarbonate sheets and curing the inorganic-organic hybrid coating solutions. The coating films made from the mixture of two types of silane coupling agents showed poor pencil hardness and adhesion, while those from the mixture of three types of silane coupling agents exhibited an improved pencil hardness of 2H~4H and adhesion of 5B. The refractive indexes of coating films were increased from 1.56 to 1.63 at 550 nm by increasing the content of titania sols from 20 to 30 g.

  • In this study, the influence of silane coupling agents, featuring different organo-functional groups on the interlaminar and thermal properties of woven glass fabric-reinforced nylon 6 composites, has been by means of short-beam shear tests, dynamic mechanical analysis, scanning electron microscopy, and thermogravimetric analysis. The results indicate that the fiber-matrix interfacial characteristics obtained using the different analytical methods agree well with each other. The interlaminar shear strengths (ILSS) of glass fabric/nylon 6 composites sized with various silane coupling agents are significantly improved in comparison with that of the composite sized commercially. ILSS of the composites increases in the order: Z-6076 with chloropropyl groups in the silanes > Z-6030 with methacrylate groups> Z-6020 with diamine groups; this trend is similar to that of results found in an earlier study of interfacial shear strength. The dynamic mechanical properties, the fracture surface observations, and the thermal stability also support the interfacial results. The improvement of the interfacial properties may be ascribed to the different chemical reactivities of the reactive amino end groups of nylon 6 and the organo-functional groups located at the ends of the silane chains, which results from the increased chemical reactivity in order chloropropyl > methacrylate > diamine.

  • Wood powder as reinforcing fillers and polyethylene as a matrix have been used for wood plastic composites (WPC). In preparing WPC, counting agents (such as MA and MAOMS) were also used in order to improve the bonding force between matrix and fillers. In this study, the effect of wood powder, MA, MAOMS concentration on the mechanical properties and interface phenomena on the composites was evaluated The tensile strength of 3wt% MA-treated composites reached its maximum value of 25.91MPa while 3wt% MAOMS-treated composites attained the maximum value of 22.48MPa. The maximum impact strength of MA and MAMOS-treated composites were 44.38J/m and 36.09J/m, respectively, when 3wt% of coupling agent was introduced.

  • Silica nanoparticles were synthesized with various silane coupling agents to make specific pathway of electrons and anti-recombination system when solidifying liquid electrolytes. In this study, we used an appropriate method of synthesis for activated silica nanoparticles and silane coupling agents with 3-(triethoxysilyl)propionitrile, Trimethoxy[3-(methylamino)propyl]silane, Triethoxyoctylsilane, and octadecyltrimethoxy silane. Dye-sensitized solar cells using solidified electrolytes with silica nanoparticles exhibit comparatively excellent efficiency, ranging from 2.3 to 7.0% under similar conditions.

  • In this study, in order to improve the thermal and electrical properties of epoxy/graphene nanoplatelets (GNPs), surface modifications of GNPs are conducted using silane coupling agents. Three silane coupling agents, i.e. 2-(3,4-epoxycyclohexyl)-ethyltrimethoxysilane (ETMOS), 3-glycidoxypropyltriethoxysilane (GPTS), and 3-glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane (GPTMS), were used. Among theses, GPTMS exhibits the best modification performance for fabricating GNP-incorporated epoxy composites. The effect of the silanization is evaluated using transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. The electrical and thermal conductivities are characterized. The epoxy/silanized GNPs exhibits higher thermal and electrical properties than the epoxy/raw GNPs due to the improved dispersion state of the GNPs in the epoxy matrix. The TEM microphotographs and Turbiscan data demonstrate that the silane molecules grafted onto the GNP surface improve the GNP dispersion in the epoxy.

  • The effect of surface treatment of fillers on the mechanical, electrical properties, and tracking performance of silicone rubber insulators have been investigated. For base polymer, $\alpha,\;\omega$) vinyl poly(dimethyl-methylphenyl) siloxane(VPMPS) containing dimethyl siloxane and methylphenyl siloxane was prepared by the equilibrium polymerization. High voltage silicone rubber composites(HVSRC) were prepared from VPMPS, nano-silica, and alumina trihydrate (ATH) modified by various coupling agents. Bound rubber of uncured silicone rubber, cross-linking density of the vulcanizate as well as the mechanical, electrical properties, and tracking performance were measured.
