As the cost-per-byte of SSDs dramatically decreases, the introduction of SSDs to Hadoop becomes an attractive choice for high performance data processing. In this paper the cost-per-performance of SSD-based Hadoop cluster (SSD-Hadoop) and HDD-based Hadoop cluster (HDD-Hadoop) are evaluated. For this, we propose a MapReduce performance model using queuing network to simulate the execution time of MapReduce job with varying cluster size. To achieve an accurate model, the execution time distribution of MapReduce job is carefully profiled. The developed model can precisely predict the execution time of MapReduce jobs with less than 7% difference for most cases. It is also found that SSD-Hadoop is 20% more cost efficient than HDD-Hadoop because SSD-Hadoop needs a smaller number of nodes than HDD-Hadoop to achieve a comparable performance, according to the results of simulation with varying the number of cluster nodes.
This study investigated the performance of hygiene management according to the capacity and food cost of foodservice in kindergartens as a measure of kindergartens foodservice hygiene management. Dietitians from the education office visited 50 kindergartens under the control of Dongbu District Office of Education during January, 2011. Kindergartens were 11 public and 39 private institutions. Over half of kindergartens (n=27) provided foodservice to 50~99 children. About 21 kindergartens had a foodservice cost per student per day of 2,000 won. Regarding personal hygiene, 'whether to wear an accessory or have a manicure' showed the best performance. 'Whether to have their health examined once every 6 months or keep their health records in 2 years' was rarely performed. For food materials, 'whether to buy food appropriate for the quality control standard of food materials' showed the highest performance. The highest performances for storage management of food materials and handling of food was 'whether to store goods within butlery at intervals more than 30 cm from the ground' and 'whether to heat and cook food more than $74^{\circ}C$', respectively. The highest performance for distribution of food and management of facilities was 'the hygienic management of cooking tools and facilities' and 'the proper installation of air-conditioning, heating and ventilation facilities', respectively. The results of this study show that capacity and food cost had the strongest effects on performance of personal hygiene. Especially, smaller facility size could increase performance of foodservice management.

Papermaking has changed remarkably during the past 20 years, creating huge pressures on retention and drainage programs. During this time, technology has advanced from single PAM flocculants to inorganic microparticle-based programs and then to micropolymer-based programs. In today's evolving fine paper market, retention and drainage programs have to meet increased demands in many areas, such as increased speed, GAP formers, dilution headboxes, higher ash levels, reduced furnish quality, lower cost, and increased machine efficiency. Hercules recently introduced a new technology that offers performance and stability improvements and operational cost savings as compared to existing advanced technologies. $PerForm(R)$ SP Advanced Retention and Drainage Technology consists of a family of products based on a structured organic particulate that offers papermakers the ultimate flexibility for management of wet end chemistry. This paper compares $PerForm(R)$ SP Advanced Retention and Drainage Technology to inorganic microparticle and micropolymer technologies and provides multiple case histories on machines that demonstrate the benefits of the technology. In these case histories, the PerForm SP is shown to provide improved retention and drainage that results in improved performance and operational cost savings to the mill.
Dental prosthetic restoration shows a big difference of cost per itemized unit depending on the size of dental labs, facility standard, manpower, and performance. Even the same dental labs have distinctive cost according to manufacturing performance, inflation, and the number of workers. However, in apite of such a change of circumstances, it appears to be quite stable in the relative cost per itemized unit unless the manufacturing trend of particular item changes dramatically. Therefore, if the relative number of cost per itemized unit, which is produced by costing, is indicated, we are able to utilize it effectively as a standard wage estimate. If the wage of dental prosthetic restoration is determined on the basis of cost, it is desirable that the relative value of cost and that of wage are identical. But, by means of comparative analysis, since the relative value of wage reveals mostly lower than that of cost depending on an item, it is considered that the wage is not reflecting the cost approproately. Due to the subdivision and the profession of medical technology, the new development of wage items for dental prosthetic restoration is required. This means that the need for the establishment of new wage items should be presented as the general concept of dental prothetic restroation changes and the level of pathologic technology increases. The current wage structure has differences in the degree of difficulty accroding to unit items and in the cost factors. Nevertheless, the differences are not reflected enough to the wage, so there is potential to lower the medical quality through the use of low-proce materials to avoid the increase of cost and the work process which skips a manufacturing step. The new items of dental prosthetic restoration also increases, but the development of proper numerical value system is not supported. Thus, the right proce is set mostly by applying to the wage of a similar item. Since most wages are established by an individual agreement between the dental clinic institute and the dental labs, the propriety of wage level lacks. Therefore, it is urgent to provide and promote the system of a fair work charge by a standard cost which can be applied to all medical institute.
A new PC cluster was designed and constructed based on Windows XP Operating system. Primary target of the present design was the high node density per rack by using the general PC parts those are cost-effective and readily available in the market. Other major design points were system cooling and the convenient maintenance using standard PC parts. Presently 24 nodes per rack seems to be optimum considering the specification of the network switching device, system cooling and power supply, but 40 nodes can be accommodated within a single rack at maximum. Windows XP was selected as a high-performance computing environment considering the cost and the convenience in acquisition, maintenance and education. Both fast-Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet network connection were tested and compared with previous data, especially for Linux doter using Myrinet. The result shows that there is no significant difference between the operating systems and the Fast-Ethernet and/or Gigabit Ethernet are good solution for the high-performance PC cluster considering the cost and performance.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to estimate of home-visiting nursing costs for low-income elderly with chronic disease in a metropolitan city using the severity classification and ABC(active-based costing). Methods: First, the HHC activity pool was established. The performance time of each nursing activity were estimated. Second, nursing resources(labor costs, operating costs, and traffic expenses) were analyzed and nursing cost per minute was calculated. And then the cost of each activity was estimated. Third, 202 visiting cases were classified into three group by their severity. And then nursing cost per visit according to their severity was estimated. Results: 59 nursing activities were included in HHC activity pool. The average working time of 59 nursing activity was 6.7minutes and nursing cost per minute was 489 won. According severity, nursing cost per visit were in class I, 54,296 (won), class II 83,124(won), and class III 93,455(won).
This study purports to verify managerial effectiveness of the integrated delivery system(IDS) of Japanese health care institutions through comparing the managerial performance between hospital groups providing with both acute and nursing care and those with acute care only. Data on the managerial performance of 697 hospitals providing with nursing care together and 819 hospitals providing with acute care only were collected from Japanese Central Social Insurance Medical Councils 2001, 2003, 2005, and were analyzed using mean comparison test(t-test) between the two groups. The results revealed that there were significant differences between the two groups in such indicators as ratio of material cost, labor cost, depreciation rate, total margin, operating margin, average number of outpatient per day, average revenue of an inpatient per day, total amount of labor cost, gross revenue per employee, and labor productivity. However, we could not find out any consistent evidence which support the effect of integrated delivery system on the hospital managerial performance. Further discussion was made on the limitation of the study and future research agenda relevant to the topic.

Experimental work of batch-type dryer was conducted to develop its optimurm operating conditions by analyzing the major factors which affect the drying performance. A laboratory batch-type dryer was constructed and tested for various levels of heated-air rates, and depths of grain deposit. Tong-il rice variety having the initial moisture content of approximaely 23 per cent in wet basis was used for the experiment. The criteria selected for establishing the optimum operating condition were the drying performance rate, the thermal efficiency, and the operational cost of the dryer. The results of the study are summarized as follows: 1. The performance rate of dryer for a specific operating condition was defined as total amount of material dried per hour when the moisture content of grains in the upperlayer reaches to 16 per cent in wet basis. The optimum operating conditions as viewed in the rate of drying performance could be justified by functional realtionship between the depth of grain deposit and air flow rate. In other words, there was a definite depth of grain deposit for a given air-rate which make the dryer performance maximum. The optimum grain depth for the batch-type dryer with 3.3㎡ loading area and with the attached axial fan was about 35cm. 2. The thermal efficiency for the dryer was evaluated by the ratio of the latent heat required to evaporate the grain moisture to the heat input required to raise the ambient air-temperature to 40 degree centigrade. The optimum operating condition as viewed in term of thermal efficiency analyzed was that grater depth and lower air flow-rate may be desirable. This condition is contracted with the optimum condition as viewed by the dryer performance rate. 3. The annual operating cost of batch-type dryer was analyzed for different annual hour of use and for different operation condition. The optimum condition as viewed in terms of operating cost was almost identical to one as viewed in terms of dryer performance rate. Therefore, the most economical use of batch-type dryer for the same annual operating hours can be obtained when the dryer operated in the condition of maximum dryer performance rate. Increasing the annual operating hour may be desirable to cut down the dryer operation cost, since the annual hour of dryer use is much sensitive to the operating cost than any peractical conditions of dryer operation. 4. The most desirable operational condition as justified by combining all the criteria, dryer performance rate, thermal efficiency and annual operating cost, could be concluded to operate the dryer in the condition of maximum performance rate. The condition in general is identical to the lowest operation cost for a given annual operating hour.
The principal objective of this study was to reveal the relationship between the menu management indicators and menu performance indicators in contract-foodservice operations. Menu indicators differed according to the type of business, type of contract, type of serving, and number of service lines. In accordance with the results of our correlation analysis, we noted significant correlations between menu performance indicators and menu management indicators. The first of these was the correlation between the food cost ration and meal counts, food loss, and the use of prepared vegetables. The second of these was the correlation between food cost per meal and forecasting error, food loss, and inventory turnover. The last of these correlations was the negative correlation between menu CSI(customer satisfaction index) and the use of prepared vegetables. According to the results of our canonical correlation analysis, 2 significant functions were identified. In the first function, we noted significant correlations between meal counts, use of prepared vegetables, food loss, and food cost ratio. Additionally, we noted significant correlations between forecasting error, inventory turnover, food loss, and food cost per meal in the second function. Menu management indicators had no influence on customer satisfaction.
Purpose: This study was carried out to substantiate the application process of activity-based costing on the current cost of hospital home care (HHC) service. The study materials were documents, 120 client charts, health insurance demand bills, salary of 215 HHC nurses, operating expense, 6 HHC agencies, and 31 HHC nurses. Method: The research was carried out by analyzing the HHC activities and then collecting labor and operating expenses. For resource drivers, HHC activity performance time and workload were studied. For activity drivers, the number of HHC activity performances and the activity number of visits were studied. Result: The HHC activities were classified into 70 activities. In resource, the labor cost was 245₩per minute, operating cost was 9,570₩ per visit and traffic expense was an average of 12,750₩. In resource drivers, education and training had the longest time of 67 minutes. Average length of performance for activities was 13.7 minutes. The workload was applied as a relative value. The average cost of HHC was 62,741₩ and the cost ranged from 55,560₩ to 74,016₩. Conclusion: The fixed base rate for a visit in the current HHC medical fee should be increased. Exclusion from the current fee structure or flexible operation of traveling expenses should be reviewed.
