  • The hydraulic or pneumatic valve spools become essential as the important components on the production of automatic hydraulic or pneumatic machinaries as mechanical industry is developed rapidly. The machining precision is asked for manufacturing the valve spools. They could be unstable in the quality by the conventional arc welding and they have a lot of technical problems in manufacturing because their shapes are generally small. By the Precision casting process such as lost wax process, the production cost will be increased. But by the friction welding technique, they will be able to be made without such problems. Furthermore, there is a few study on friction welding of such hydraulic valve spool steels and in-process real-time weld quality evaluation technique by acoustic emission. So that, the final purpose of this study is 1) the development of design and manufacturing technique of hydraulic or pneumatic valve spool by optimizing of friction welding, and 2) the development of in-process real-time weld quality evaluation technique by acoustic emission.

  • A simplified flowsheet for pyroprocessing commercial spent fuel is proposed in which the only salt treatment step is actinide drawdown from electrorefiner salt. Actinide drawdown can be performed using a simple galvanic reduction process utilizing the reducing potential of gadolinium metal. Recent results of equilibrium reduction potentials for Gd, Ce, Nd, and La are summarized. A description of a recent experiment to demonstrate galvanic reduction with gadolinium is reviewed. Based on these experimental results and material balances of the flowsheet, this new variant of the pyroprocessing scheme is expected to meet the objectives of minimizing cost, maximizing processing rate, minimizing proliferation risk, and optimizing the utilization of geologic repository space.

  • The multicast routing problem lies in the composition of a multicast routing tree including a source node and multiple destinations. There is a trade-off relationship between cost and delay, and the multicast routing problem of optimizing these two conditions at the same time is a difficult problem to solve and it belongs to a multi-objective optimization problem (MOOP). A multi-objective genetic algorithm (MOGA) is efficient to solve MOOP. A micro-genetic algorithm(${\mu}GA$) is a genetic algorithm with a very small population and a reinitialization process, and it is faster than a simple genetic algorithm (SGA). We propose a multi-objective micro-genetic algorithm (MO${\mu}GA$) that combines a MOGA and a ${\mu}GA$ to find optimal solutions (Pareto optimal solutions) of multicast routing problems. Computational results of a MO${\mu}GA$ show fast convergence and give better solutions for the same amount of computation than a MOGA.

  • This study develops a improved gate assignment algorithm and decision support system using its algorithm to extract a assignment result minimizing a walking distance of passengers in airport and maximizing the utilization rate of avaliable gates in domestic airports. By operation support system, it may contribute greatly in efficient enlargement of airport operation and increase the airport reliability through quickly coping with takeoff and landing delay of flight due to weather change, preservation and repair of gate, etc. Also, passengers who use airport terminal can minimize time and walking distance for departure, arrival, and transit, and it may greatly reduce the additional operation cost for common gates through maximizing the utilization rate for exclusive usage gates for airplanes which use gates.

  • The Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD) process is an enhanced method to extract oil from bitumen which involves surface and central process facilities. This paper describes the Central Process Facilities (CPF) of SAGD and proposes several retrofit plans to the Heat Exchanger Network (HEN). In this approach, the process integration scheme is applied to estimate the energy saving in HENs, and various cases are modeled in favor of a commercial simulator. Throughout this work, a minimum approach temperature of 10℃ is assumed. The results reveal that, due to the HEN optimization using process integration, the heating and cooling duties can be reduced to 29.68MW and 1.886MW, respectively. Compared with the Husky case, all cases considered in this study indicate a potential reduction of at least 6% in total cost, including investment and operation costs.

  • This paper proposes a pose-graph based SLAM method using an upward-looking camera and artificial landmarks for AGVs in factory environments. The proposed method provides a way to acquire the camera extrinsic matrix and improves the accuracy of feature observation using a low-cost camera. SLAM is conducted by optimizing AGV's explored path using the artificial landmarks installed on the ceiling at various locations. As the AGV explores, the pose nodes are added based on the certain distance from odometry and the landmark nodes are registered when AGV recognizes the fiducial marks. As a result of the proposed scheme, a graph network is created and optimized through a G2O optimization tool so that the accumulated error due to the slip is minimized. The experiment shows that the proposed method is robust for SLAM in real factory environments.

  • The fundamental design issues that arise in the pickup and delivery system planning are optimizing the system with minimum cost and maximum throughput and service level. This study is concerned with the development of pickup and delivery system with customer responsive service level, DCM(Demand Chain Management). The distribution process and service map are consisted of manufacturing, warehousing, and pickup and delivery. First we formulated the vehicle pickup and delivery problem using GIS-VRP method so as to satisfy the customer service requests. Second, we developed a GUI-type computer program using AVL, automated vehicle location system. The computational results show that the proposed method is very effective on a set of test problems.

  • When the electrical appliances such as TVs and refrigerators become obsolete, they must be collected to the recycling centers to avoid environmental damages. The obsolete home appliances are first moved to the regional collection point; and then transported to one of the recycling centers. Each recycling center has a limited capacity; and some recycling centers can process only certain types of products. For given locations of the existing collection points and recycling centers, optimally assigning the obsolete home appliances of each type from each collection point to the recycling centers can significantly reduce the total transportation cost. We formulate this problem as an LP problem. We also present an approach to determine the locations of additional recycling centers in order to alleviate the over-utilization of the current recycling centers.

  • The compiler is the key of the prototyping framework for the new memory system. These compiler-centric prototyping tools have several components, including compiler, linker, assembler, and standard libraries. It takes a lot of cost and man power to develop it all at zero base. Therefore, developer usually use a development framework to develop these prototyping tools efficiently. These development frameworks should be free of licensing issues when considering the commercialization of development results. Thus, developer should investigate the development framework, which is free from licensing issues and that provides all of the development environment to enable actual execution. There are three representative compiler-centric development frameworks: GCC, Clang (LLVM), and MS visual studio. There are some differences depending on the release version among them. And, there are some limitations to the freeware and commercial use. We chose LLVM here to explain the development of prototyping tools. This information will help accelerate the development of prototyping tools and will help reduce system development costs.
