A high-performance liquid chromatographic method for the simultaneous determination of arbutine, a mixture of methyl, ethyl, propyl, butyl parabens dissolved in methoanol and Glrablidine(Oil Soluble Licorice), was studied by using a ODS C18 column and a methanol gradient at 254 and 276 nm. Calibration curves were found to be linear in the 0.5-1.0 ug/ml range(compounds arbutine, glrablidin) and 0.1-20 ug/ml (compounds methylpaaben, ethylparaben, propylparaben, butylparaben). Linear regression analysis of the data demonstrates the efficacy of the method in terms of precision and accuracy. An extraction method is developed and validated in order to apply this chromatographic method to a cosmetic lotion. The presision of this method, calculated as the relativ standard deviation(RSD) of the recoveries(0.28-2.55%) was excellent for all compounds.

  • The changes of cosmetic industry regulation in the leading countries, such as E.C., America, Japan, initiated our research to suggest the direction of our cosmetics regulation. These countries are strengthening the post-monitoring system for the safety and cosmetic industry development. We propose the agenda for the development of the industry; the extension of cosmetics range, deregulation of the advertisement, implementation of the ingredient labelling, introduction of the product expiring date. Ultimately. it is necessary to introduce and extend current CGMP to enhance the company responsibility and to reinforce the post-monitoring.

  • This study was carried out to identify the key drivers behind the rapid growth of the cosmetic medical tourism industry in recent years and determine the future growth engines. Unlike previous studies that have focused on cosmetic medical tourism in the United States, Japan, and China, this paper examines the related trends in ASEAN countries, where the interest in cosmetic surgery has recently surged among young people, as part of the efforts to promote the expansion of the industry in this particular region. The results of the empirical study showed that those from the ASEAN region traveling abroad for cosmetic surgery found the medical professional's expertise in cosmetic surgery technology, medical care system, and administrative convenience in relation to communication and accessibility appealing, and this is what led to an intention to visit. As for another process that formed the intention to visit, it was the sociocultural attitudes towards appearance arising from the attractiveness of celebrities, and this had an impact on the intention to visit abroad for cosmetic surgery. Especially it was newly discovered, based on an empirical analysis, that sociocultural attitudes towards the appearance and attractiveness of celebrities could be a key influencing factor when it comes to the intention to visit another country for cosmetic surgery.

  • Mma-5 and Malva are extracts from a defined seaweed of the Rhodophyceae family and an annual or perenial plant, respectively. They have traditionally a significant stimulating properties such as protein synthesis, astringent, emollient, and et al.. In order to investigate the effect on wound healing, we studied for cell migration, cell attachment, and cell proliferation in vitro. The results of present study demonstrated that MMA-5 and Malva extract had the effect on wound healing, therefore we suggested that they could be effective materials to be applied to Cosmetic products.

  • The objectives of this study are to develop a cosmetic involvement scale focusing on Korean men in their 20s and 30s, verify its validity and examine the characteristics of this group. The results of this study's analyses showed that cosmetic involvement scale could be classified into 5 factors: 'trend & interest involvement', 'prestige sensitivity involvement', 'price and value involvement', 'skin involvement,' and 'obligatory involvement'. Also the cosmetic involvement of the target group was classified into 'amusing high-involvement group', 'rational low-involvement group', and 'obligatory high-involvement group'. This study has significance in showing differences of cosmetic involvement factors by gender and proposing a cosmetic involvement scale of Korean men in their 20s and 30s, which has taken men's distinctiveness into consideration.

Forty females in the U.S and 40 in Korea participated in the study by being interviewed. As a result, while Koreans had positive attitudes toward cosmetic surgery, Americans had negative attitudes. Higher incidences of cosmetic surgery were found among Koreans than among Americans. Koreans with lower body image tended to have ore tolerance toward cometic surgery. These results suggest that cosmetic surgery might be one of many ways to improve their self-esteem, Korean women with lower body image showed higher attitudes or behaviors toward cosmetic surgery than Americans.
