Experiments were carried out to make clear the relationships among some morphological characters of four-varieties of mulberry trees. Simple correlation coefficients and particial correlation coefficients were calcultated among the characters, namely branch length, branch diameter, leaf number per branch, leaf area per branch, node number per branch, total branch wt. branch weight except leaves and leaf weight per branch of the mulberry trees. The results obtained are summarized as follows: 1. Variances of the characters and covariances between the each characters are shown in table 1, and simple correlation coefficients among various characters are shown in table 2. It was observed that there were close relationships between yield (leaf weight) and branch length, branch diameter, leaf number per branch, leaf are per branch, node number per branch, total branch weight and branch weight except leaves, respectively. 2. Partial correlation coefficients among some characters are shown in table 3. From this table, it was also observed that leaf yield of mulberry trees and leaf area are more closely related more than leaf yield and the other characters of mulberry trees in four different varieties. From the experimental studies, it was recognized that the four characters, namely branch length, branch diameter, leaf number and leaf area, should be very useful characters in the estimation of mulberry leaf yield as they could be measured. or counted easily before harvest of mulberry leaves, and are affected more in mulberry 1eaf yields than the other characters.
Background : Quality of professional nursing care is the most essential factor for survival and growth of nursing profession. Then, nursing professionals have responsibility for the evaluation of quality of professional nursing care. The purpose of this study was to develope an evaluation tool of nursing care for patients received gastrointestinal surgery with general anesthesia. This study was a primary work for the developement of a computer program for the evaluation of nursing care. Methods : This study was done through some consecutive steps. They were (1) Developement of items for the tool (2) Developement of an evaluation tool of nursing care quality for the G-I surgery patient (3) Test of reliability and validity of the tool. Two groups of experts and expert pannels who had much experience of the QA and the care of G-I surgery patients participated for developement of the items. 85 nursing records were used for the test of reliability and validity of the developed tool. The evaluation tools were developed with two types of scoring, norm-referenced tool and criterion-referenced tool. Results The system of items for tool was evaluation area evaluation item-indicator. There were 7evaluation areas which contained 32evaluation items which contained 7lindicators. Evaluation areas 1, 2, 3, 4 were for the evaluation of process and 5, 6, 7 were for the evaluation of outcome of nursing care for G-I surgery patient. For the test of interrator reliability, correlation coefficients of each scores of items and intragroup correlation coefficients were calculated. The average correlation coefficients between two rators were 0.65, 0.54 and the intragroup correlation coefficient were 0.99 and 1.00 by the types of scoring. The Cronbach alpha coefficients of the tools were 0.54 and 0.46 by the types of scoring. The average content validity index of the items was 0.95 from 4 pairs of experts. Because there were significant differences between some scores of quality of nursing care of 3 general hospitals regardless of the types of scoring, the tools could be thought to have some construct validity. And also, there were significant correlations between some scores of quality of nursing care and admission days and admission days after surgery regardless of the types of scoring, the tools could be thought to have predictive validity. Conclusion In this study, the evaluation tool of nursing care was developed for the very specified group of patient, G-I surgery patient. And the items were developed and tested by the experts of nursing practice. Because of these reasons, it was supposed that the tool could be used effectively in nursing pratice. And the procedures for the development and the test of the evaluation tool of nursing care in this study were supposed to be used for the developement of other tools.

The objectives of this study were to estimate genetic parameters and sire breeding values for average daily gain (ADG) and carcass traits using sire-maternal grandsire model with REML approach, sire model with REML approach, sire model without relationships among sires and with REML and ANOVA approach, and to investigate advantages and disadvantages of these methods. Data were collected from 42,325 Japanese Black steers and heifers finished and slaughtered from 1991 to 2004. Traits analyzed in this study were average daily gain (ADG) during the fattening period, live weight at slaughter (LW), cold carcass weight (CW), estimated lean yield percentage (LYE), longissimus muscle area (LMA), subcutaneous fat thickness (SFT), rib thickness (RT), and marbling score (BMS). Bivariate analyses were also performed to obtain genetic and phenotypic correlation coefficients among traits. Estimated breeding values were obtained from each model, and simple and rank correlations among breeding values from each model were calculated. Estimates of heritability using the four models ranged from 0.25 to 0.31 in ADG, from 0.21 to 0.24 in LW, from 0.23 to 0.27 in CW, from 0.10 to 0.17 in DP, from 0.40 to 0.42 in LYE, from 0.19 to 0.31 in LMA, from 0.31 to 0.34 in SFT, from 0.26 to 0.33 in RT, and from 0.18 to 0.44 in BMS. The differences in heritability estimates using the four models seemed to be feasible in ADG, CW, DP, LMA, RT, and BMS. Genetic correlation coefficients of ADG with CW, SFT, RT and BMS were moderate to high and positive while the genetic correlation coefficients between ADG and LYE was low and negative. Correlation coefficients of BMS with SFT were negligible for both genetic and phenotypic correlations. The correlations of estimates evaluated from sire models with those from sire-maternal grandsire model were not large enough to convincing that breeding values using a sire model were corresponding to those using a sire-maternal grand sire model. If information of maternal grand sires are not available, the sire model with incomplete pedigree information included only sire of sire (Model 2) is optimal among the sire models evaluated in this study.
This study was conducted to validate the semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire that was developed to assess the intakes of fatty acids, as well as energy, carbohydrates, fat, protein, minerals and vitamins in Korean adults. The validity of the semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire was tested on 78 subjects (31 men,47 women) aged 34 to 66 years. The semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire included 93 food items and was validated on two 3-day dietary records. The mean intakes and the Spearman Correlation Coefficients between the semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire and the two 3-day dietary records were analyzed for each nutrient and food group level. The mean nutrient intakes obtained from the semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire were estimated to be greater than those of the two 3-day dietary records. The Spearman Correlation Coefficients between the energy-adjusted nutrient intakes from the semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire and the two 3-day dietary records ranged from 0.24 for polyunsaturated fatty acids to 0.55 for fat in men and from 0.29 for polyunsaturated fatty acids to 0.55 for saturated fatty acids in women, respectively. The Spearman Correlation Coefficients for food intake ranged from 0.11 for teas and beverages to 0.58 for grains and their products in men,-0.04 for potatoes and starches to 0.73 for milk and dairy products in women. Foods consumed regularly had lower intra-person variation and tended to have higher observed correlation coefficients. These results indicate that the semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire is a useful tool for estimating nutrient intakes, particularly of total fat and saturated fatty acid intakes.

The purpose of this study was to determine the accuracy of the prediction methods which are frequently used in the clinic, such as Moyers', Tanaka and Johnston's, Song's Hixon and Oldfather's, Kaplan's, Smith's. These prediction methods were compared to the data, which were obtained from 100 Kyung-Hee University students (50 males and 50 females) with normal occlusion of permanent dentition, using a retrospective statistical analysis. The standard periapical radiopgraphs for the lower premolars using 16-inch long cone technique and the yellow stone dental casts were taken from each samples. The mesiodistal widths of 4 incisors, canine, premolars were measured on the dental casts, and those of premolars were measured on the radiographs. The correlation coefficients, paired samples t-tests, regression coefficients between the actual measuredments of the samples and the predicted measurements of each methods were analyzed. The results obtained were as follows: 1. The prediction methods using periapical radiographs tended to show a stronger correlation than the methods using dental casts; the correlation coefficients between the actual widths of the lower canine and premolars and the predicted widths of the tested methods were higher in Smith, Kaplan, Hixon & Oldfater, and Tanaka & Johnston (p<0.001). 2. The Moyers' probability chart at 65 % showed a tendency toward the least difference between the actual measurements and the predicted widths of the lower canine and the premolars, and the methods of Smith, Kaplan, Tanaka & Johnston also showed a less difference. 3. By means of evaluation in correlation coefficients and paired smaples t-tests, the Smith and Tanaka & Johnston in male, and the Moyers' 65 % and Song in female showed a high tendency toward accurate methods. 4. It is important to estimate an appropriate quantile for design of hydraulic structure. For this purpose, it is necessary to find the appropriate probability distribution which can represent the sample data well. Probability plot correlation coefficient test as one of goodness-of-fit test, is recently developed and has been known as a simple and powerful method. In this study, probability plot correlation coefficient test statistics using the plotting position considering the coefficients of skewness for the GEV distribution is derived, and represented by the regression equation. Monte-Carlo method is also performed to compare the rejection power between each method. As the results, the probability plot correlation coefficient test which is derived in this study is better than the others. In particular, when sample size is small and distribution has the shape parameter, rejection power of probability plot correlation coefficient test considering the coefficients of skewness is bigger than the others.

To evaluate the possibility of predicting a specific nutrient component, which nay be difficult in analysis, from a component of nutrient relatively easy to analyze, six grass roughage sources (bermuda grass hay, klein grass hay, oat hay, orchard grass straw, tall fescue straw and timothy hay) mainly used in Korea were analyzed for the heat-stable $\alpha-amylase$ treated neutral detergent fiber (aNDF), acid detergent fiber (ADF), acid detergent lignin (ADL), neutral detergent insoluble crude protein (NDICP) and acid detergent insoluble crude protein (ADICP) as well as proximate analytical components, and correlation coefficients between nutrient components were calculated. Some chemical components appeared to have significant correlation (p<0.05) through Pearson's correlation coefficients (i.e. between crude protein (CP) and NDICP in oat hay, orchard grass straw and tall fescue, between CP and ADICP in oat hay and timothy hay, between crude fiber (CF) and aNDF in klein grass hay, tall fescue straw and timothy hay, between CF and ADF in oat hay, tall fescue straw and timothy hay, and between CF and ADL in orchard pass straw and timothy hay). It is therefore suggested that it would be worthy to predict a specific nutrient component, which may be difficult in analysis such as aNDF, ADF, ADL, NDICP and ADICP, from a component of nutrient relatively easy to analyze such as CP and CF. However, it would be needed to improve the correlation coefficients, more samples should be measured.

Boiling heat transfer coefficients and pressure drops for R-22 and R-407C were measured in horizontal micro-channels. The test section is stainless steel tube, inner tube diameters are 1.8mm and 2.8mm, and the respective lengths are 1500mm and 3000mm. The range of mass flux is 300-600kg/$m^2$s and heat flux is 5-15kW/$m^2$. In this results, pressure drop increased linearly for both R-22 and R-407C with increased mass flux, but the increase of heat flux did not affect the pressure. In addition, the pressure drop was fairly increased in the high quality region rather than low quality region. In the range of low quality, the mass flux had a small affect on the heat transfer coefficients, however, in high quality region, the heat transfer coefficients increased even more with increasing mass flux. Under the low quality region and low mass flux, the heat transfer coefficients increased with increasing heat flux densities. The effects of inner tube diameter were clearly observed. Namely, the measured pressure drop inside inner tube diameter 1.8 mm is higher than 2.8 mm with increasing the mass flux and heat flux. Also, the measured local heat transfer coefficient inside inner tube diameter 1.8 mm is higher than 2.8 mm in the range of high qualities. The experimental data for R-407C compared with proposed correlation using pure refrigerant. The experimental data for R-407C was more decreased than the proposed correlation for pure refrigerant up to 50% or more.

In case of wavelet coefficients have correlation, in image signal denoising using wavelet shrinkage denoising method, the denoising effect for the image signal is reduced when the wavelet shrinkage denoising method is used. The coefficients of multiwavelet transform have correlation by pre-filters. To solve the degradation problem in multiwavelet transform, V Sterela suggested a new pre-filter for the Universal threshold or weighting factors to the threshold. In this paper, to improve the denoising effect in the multiwavelet transform, the coefficient normalizing method that the coefficient are divided by estimated noise deviation is adopted to the transformed multiwavelet coefficients in the course of wavelet shrinkage technique. And the thresholds of universal, SURE and GCV are estimated using normalized coefficients and tried to denoise by the wavelet shrinkage technique. We compared PSNRs of denoised images for each thresholds and confirmed the efficiency of the proposed method.
The present study was conducted to estimate average weights, and corrlation and regression coefficients among various traits of eggs obtained from Korean native and imported chicken. Data were obtained from 360 layers (180 of Korean native origin, and 180 of imported Decalb Brown) between November 8, 1994 to February 8, 1995. The results obtained are summerized as follows : 1. The mean weights of whole egg, yolk, dense white, thin white, and egg shell of native chicken were lighter (P<0.01) than those of Decalb Brown. 2. The coefficients of variability in each egg trait were lower in native chicken than in Decalb Brown, indicating the higher ability of native chicken to adapt to the local environment. 3. The phenotypic correlation coeffcients between whole egg and weights of yolk, dense white, thin white, and eggshell were 0.842∼0.992(P<0.01) in native chicken, and 0.865∼0.985(P<0.01) in Decalb Brown. 4. The average eggshell thicknesses of native and imported Decalb Brown were 362.5 $\mu\textrm{m}$ and 407.9 $\mu\textrm{m}$, respectively. 5. The regression coefficients of most of the traits of eggs from native chicken were lower than those from Decalb Brown layers, suggesting that Korean native chicken should be improved further in various egg traits measured in this study.
