  • Objects : This study was conducted to investigate the relationships between parenting style and depressive trait in adolescents. Methods : 287 Middle school students were asked to complete self-report questionnaires including the Parental Bonding Instrument(PBI) and the Children's Depression Inventory (CDI). Results : Relations between two sets of variables were examined by means of the Pearson's correlation coefficient. It was suggested that the relationship with their mothers had more influence on the depressive trait of adolescents. The mean scores of children's depression inventory were significantly higher in group whose parents had been overprotective and less careful, than whose parents had been careful and not overprotective. Conclusion : The results support that the adolescents' depression is significantly related to the parenting style. Among parental bonding types, the high care-low overprotection type was most favorable and the low care-high overprotection type was worst.

  • The purpose of the present study was to determine the structural relationship among the father's participation in childcare, parenting stress, marital satisfaction, and the job satisfaction of working mothers. This study is based on the 2011 Panel Study on Korean Children, a large, population-based study conducted by the Korea Institute of Child Care and Education. The participants were 431 working mothers. To ensure the reliability and validity of the questions, descriptive statistics of the frequency, ratio, average, standard deviation, skewness, and kurtosis were obtained using SPSS 21.0. Exploratory factor, variables correlation, and reliability analysis were also performed. The structural analysis using AMOS 20.0 in the bootstrapping method was conducted to perform a path analysis among the variables and to assess the suitability of the model. A hypothetical model was proposed, which was composed of a father's participation in childcare as an exogenous variable and parenting stress, marital satisfaction, and job satisfaction of a working mother as the endogenous variables. The results of this study are as follows: First, a father's participation in childcare and the parenting stress and marital satisfaction of a working mother affect the job satisfaction of the mother. The most influential factor is marital satisfaction. Second, marital satisfaction has mediating effects between the father's participation in childcare and the parenting stress and job satisfaction of the working mother. Third, parenting stress does not affect job satisfaction.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify child-rearing practices and parenting efficacy of Marriage-Immigrant Women. Methods: The research design was a descriptive study using self-report questionnaires. Data were collected from May 16 to December 30, 2008. Marriage-immigrant women (n=186) were recruited in G Province, C Province and P city. Descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, and correlation coefficients with SPSS 14.0 were used to analyze the data. Results: The mean score for child-rearing practices was $40.61{\pm}6.67$ and there were significant differences in child-rearing practices by nationality, and Korean language ability. The mean score for parenting efficacy was $67.67{\pm}12.14$ and there were significant differences in parenting efficacy by age, nationality, marital period, age of first child and Korean language ability. There were significant positive correlations between child-rearing practices and parenting efficacy (r=.227, p=.002). Conclusion: In this study, marriage-immigrant women showed a moderate level of child-rearing practices and parenting efficacy. Because child-rearing is mainly the mother's role in the family, knowledge, attitudes to child-rearing and parenting efficacy of mothers influence child-rearing practices and these then, affect children's health. Therefore child-rearing educational programs for marriage-immigrant women should be developed to support the mothers' child-rearing practices and improve parenting efficacy.

  • The purpose of this study was to clarify how preschooler's adaptive temperament and father's child-rearing involvement may be related to mother's chid-rearing stress. The subjects were 320 mothers whose children were 3, 4 or 5 age preschoolers attending day care centers in Keoungbok. Statistical techniques were Pearson's correlation, hierarchical multiple regression(using SPSS 12.0). The results of this were as follows. 1. Mother's child-rearing stress was negatively related to preschooler's adaptive temperament. 2. Mother's child-rearing stress was negatively related to father's child-rearing involvement. 3. The Multiple Regression analysis showed that preschooler's adaptive temperament and father's child-rearing involvement were significantly predictive to mother's child-rearing stress. And preschooler's adaptive temperament was the stronger predictor of mother's child-rearing stress than father's child-rearing involvement. There was no significant interaction effect of father's child-rearing involvement and preschooler's adaptive temperament on mother's child-rearing stress.

  • The purpose of this study is to verify the medial effect of social support in the process of the effect of working mother compatibility on spouse satisfaction. To that end, 727 employed workers who were kept samples until the 10th year (2017) were analyzed out of the data from the Korea Children's Panel Survey. Data analysis was performed for frequency analysis and regularity verification, and correlation and hierarchical regression were performed. In addition, the three-step method of Baron & Kenny (1986) was used to verify the mediated effect of social support. The results of the verification are as follows. First, the advantages of working mothers' work-in-home compatibility have had a static impact on their spouse satisfaction(ß=.164, t=4.078, p<.01). Second, the conflict between working mothers and their families has shown an amulet (-) impact on their spouse satisfaction(ß=-.134, t=-3.438, p<.05). Third, the partial selling effect of social support was verified in the process of the effect of the factors of conflict and advantages of working mothers on their spouse satisfaction. Based on the above research results, the compatibility of working mothers with working families suggested development and application of programs to enhance spouse satisfaction and social support.
