  • In this study, we identified the secondary precipitates from Samsan-jeil and Sambong mine, Goseong, Gyeongnam by means of scanning electron microscopy, electron probe microanalysis and X-ray powder diffraction analysis. Copper sulfide minerals had been produced from the mines during last few decades, however they are not worked. White and blue precipitates were found at the downstream of mine rock dump at Sambong mine and green one was at Samsan-jeil mine. The white precipitate covered the host rock surface with thickness of $30{\mu}m$, and is a kind of diatom with $10{\mu}m$ in length and $3{\mu}m$ in width. It is a species Fragilaria constuens, which is contained a order Pennales(pennate diatom) and lives in fresh water. The blue precipitate is the alteration product of chalcopyrite. It resultes in the increase in the ratio Cu:Fe from 5 to 13. The green precipitate has worm-like morphology with $10{\sim}20nm$ in diameter and $200{\sim}300nm$ in length. It is mainly composed of secondary copper sulfate such as woodwardite. However, it could be formed by the activity of microorganism, because the copper content is more than any secondary copper sulfate reported in copper sulfide mine. In order to identity the green precipitate exactly, the further research is needed.

  • Effects of gas injectino on the copper recovery form industrial waste water in a fluidized-bed electrolytic reactor were investigated. Effects of gas injection on the individual phase holdup and efficiency of copper recovery for given operating variables such as liquid and gas velocity (0.1~0.4 cm/s), current density ($2.0{\sim}3.5A/dm^2$) and amount of fluidized solid particles (1.0~4.0 wt%) were examined. The solid particle, whose diameter and swelling density were 0.5 mm and $1100kg/m^3$, respectively, was made of polystylene and divinyl benzene. It was found that the holdup of gas and solid phases increased, but that of the liquid phase decreased with increasing velocity of gas injected into the reactor. With increasing gas and/or liquid velocity and increasing amount of fluidized particles is not needed, the rate of copper recovery increased to a maximum value of and subsequently decreased. The recovery rate of copper increased almost linearly with increasing current density in accordance with Faraday's law.

  • In this paper a transmission electron microscope (TEM) observation of fine Cu precipitates distributed randomly in Al-2.5Cu-1.5Mg wt.% alloy is first reported. This new observation happened to occur when an ion milling was peformed to remove oxides on the specimen, particularly, aged 100 hours at $150^{\circ}C$. Meanwhile the oxides were identified to be $Cu_2O$ particles. For this work involved with analysis of diffraction rings, the formulation of the electron diffraction rings pattern for powder particles was made. Finally the significance of this unexpected ion milling effort on the alloy was discussed

  • In this study we present the reaction mechanism of $Cu_2ZnSnSe_4$ (CZTSe) nanoparticles synthesized by microwave-assisted chemical synthesis. We performed reactions every 10 minutes in order to identify different phases during quaternary CZTSe formation. The powder samples were analyzed by x-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy, energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The results showed that in the first minutes copper phases are predominant, then copper and tin secondary phases react to form ternary phase. The quaternary phase is formed at 50 minutes while ternary and secondary phases are consumed. At 60 minutes pure quaternary CZTSe phase is present. After 60 minutes the quaternary phase decomposes in the previous ternary and secondary phases, which indicates that 60 minutes is ideal reaction time. The EDS analysis of pure quaternary nanocrystals (CZTSe) showed stoichiometric relations similar to the reported research in the literature, which falls in the range of Cu/(Zn+Sn): 0.8-1.0, Zn/Sn: 1.0-1.20. In conclusion, the evolution pathway of CZTSe synthesized by this novel method is similar to other synthesis methods reported before. Nanoparticles synthesized in this study present desirable properties in order to use them in solar cell and photoelectrochemical cell applications.

  • Bi$_{2}Sr_{2}CaCu_{2}O_{\delta}$ superconducting films were rapidly fabricated on copper tape by liquid reaction between a Cu-free precursor and Cu tape (LiReac-PreCu) method. Those thick films were well oriented along the c-axis. The precursor was made by melt-quenched technology using twin roller. The melt-quenched films were transparent and glossy yellow in appearance. These films which were the compostion of Bi$_2SrCaO_y$, Bi$_3Sr_2CaO_z$ were placed on copper tape and then heated at various temperatures for several minutes in air. They were analyzed using X-ray powder diffraction, SEM, a DC four-probe method. The mechanism of superconducting phase formation . from the melt-quenched precursor on Cu tape was studied

  • We have investigated the effects of applied potential, deposition time and electrolyte types on shapes and physical properties of Cu dendrites by potentiostatic electrodeposition. Finer shape of dendrites was observed at less cathodic potential by 100mV than at the limiting current, due to 'effective overpotential'. The shape of copper dendrite is related to the deposition time, too. The dendrite depositing for 10 min showed the finest shape. The finer dendrite has the less apparent density and the larger specific surface area. Dendrite from chloride solution has the lowest density and the largest surface area among three plating solutions, sulfate, chloride and pyrophosphate.

  • The thermal diffusion performance of the electronic device is a factor for evaluating the stability of the electronic device. Therefore, many of research have been conducted to improve the thermal characteristics of thermal interface materials, which are materials for thermal diffusion of electronic products. In this study, nano thermal grease was prepared by blending graphene, silver and copper nano powders into a thermal grease, a type of thermal interface materials, and the heat transfer rate was measured and compared for the purpose of investigating the improved thermal properties. As a result, the thermal properties were good in the order of graphene, silver and copper, which is thought to be due to the different thermal properties of the nano powder itself.

  • This paper proposes a novel way of fabricating aligned porous Sn by freeze-drying of camphene slurry with stannic oxide ($SnO_2$) coated Sn powders. The $SnO_2$ coated Sn powders were prepared by surface oxidation of the initial and ball-milled Sn powders, as well as heat treatment of tin chloride coated Cu powders. Camphene slurries with 10 vol% solid powders were prepared by mixing at $50^{\circ}C$ with a small amount of oligomeric polyester dispersant. Freezing the slurry was done in a Teflon cylinder attached to a copper bottom plate cooled at $-25^{\circ}C$. Improved dispersion stability of camphene slurry and the homogeneous frozen body was achieved using the oxidized Sn powder at $670^{\circ}C$ in air after ball milling. The porous Sn specimen, prepared by freeze-drying of the camphene slurry with oxidized Sn powder from the heat-treated Sn/tin chloride mixture and sintering at $1100^{\circ}C$ for 1 h in a hydrogen atmosphere, showed large pores of about $200{\mu}m$, which were aligned parallel to the camphene growth direction, and small pores in their internal walls. However, $100{\mu}m$ spherical particles were observed in the bottom part of the specimen due to the melting of the Sn powder during sintering of the green compact.

  • Recently, the demands for separation/recovery of valuable metals such as nickel or tin from copper based alloys has been attracting much attention from the viewpoints of environmental protection and resource utilization. In this report, experimental results on concentration increasement of nickel and tin compared to the previous report are investigated. Ni is successfully separated by a organic solvent and reduced to the metal powder whose concentration is over 98 %. Sn is separated by a selective solution method and its concentration is increased to 97.5 % by three consecutive solution and reduction process. Crystal structure, surface morphology and microstructure of the separated samples are studied.
