  • A maze-escaping method with cooperating work of robots alongside one another will be proposed in this paper. Educational robots can communicate each other using Zigbee; however, they can't solve problems together due to their lack of arithmetic function. The robots walk upright controlled by a motion program; furthermore, they recognize an intersection or a dead-end in the use of distant sensors with sending data and receiving commands from the central control system. The maze-search algorithms were modified so that all robots can effectively navigate the maze.

  • This paper presents a method of finding optitnal joint torques of two robots when they hold an object simultaneously. Although the importance of the multiple cooperating robot system increases for more flcviblc ni;mufacturing automation, dynamic solutions to multi-robot system forming closcd kinematic chain is not easy to find. Newton-Eulcr approach is used for the dynamic formulation of two robots fonn~ng closcd kincmatic chains gmsping a rigid body object. The nrcthodology to optimize the joint torques to satisfy given criterta and obtain bettcr control of the system is discussed. The scheme is illustrated by an example.

  • This paper deals with a workspace analysis of multi-legged walking robots in velocity domain(velocity workspace analysis). Noting that when robots are holding the same object in multiple cooperating robotic arm system the kinematic structure of the system is basically the same with that of a multi-legged walking robot standing on the ground, we invented a way ot applying the technique for multiple arm system to multi-legged walking robot. An important definition of reaction velocity is made and the bounds of velocities achievable by the moving body with multi-legs is derived from the given bounds on the capabilities of actuators of each legs through Jacobian matrix for given robot configuration. After some assumption of hard-foot-condition is adopted as a contact model between feet of robot and the ground, visualization process for the velocity workspace is proposed. Also, a series of application examples will be presented including continuous walking gaits as well as several different stationary posture of legged walking robots, which validate the usefulness of the proposed technique.

  • This paper presents a new technique that derives the dynamic acceleration bounds of multiple cooperating robot systems from given individual torque limits of robots. A set of linear algebraic homogeneous equation is derived from the dynamic equations of multiple robots with friction contacts. The mobility of the robot system is analyzed by the decomposition of the null space of the linear algebraic equation. The acceleration bounds of multiple robot systems are obtained from the joint torque constraints of robots by the medium of the decomposed null space. As the joint constraints of the robots are given in the infinite norm sense, the resultant acceleration bounds of the systems are described as polytopes. Several case studies are presented to validate the proposed method in this paper.

  • In this paper, an elderly assistance system is developed based on Xenomai, a real-time development framework cooperating with the Linux kernel. A Kinect sensor is used to recognize the behavior of the elderly and A-star search algorithm is implemented to find the shortest path to the person. The mobile robot also generates a trajectory using a digital convolution operator which is based on a Bezier curve for smooth driving. In order to follow the generated trajectory within the control period, we developed real-time tasks and compared the performance of the tracking trajectory with that of non real-time tasks. The real-time task has a better result on following the trajectory within the physical constraints which means that it is more appropriate to apply to an elderly assistant system.

  • Adjustable autonomy architecture provides various ways for a human operator to participate as a member of a human-robot team in improving the performance of the team by resolving issues that the robots cannot deal with or performing tasks that the robots alone would unable to do. According to the level of involvement of the human operator, the robots have to adjust their level of autonomy and, in consequence, the operation mode of the overall system shifts. This paper deals with the implementation issues of seamless switching when the level of autonomy of the human-robot team shifts from one level to another. Especially, we focus on developing reliable methods for monitoring the task progress and maximizing the system flexibility by coping with the detailed differences between humans and robots in their characteristics of motions and their choices of positions, paths, and sequences of sub-goals to achieve a given task. To test and motivate the proposed methods, we have assembled three heterogeneous robots which work together to dock both ends of a suspended beam into stanchions.

  • Everyday about 90% of cargos are delivered by ships, and thousands of vessels enter and depart the international container harbors such as Shanghai, Singapore, Hong Kong, Busan, Rotterdam, etc. Maneuvering at harbor is known as the most sophisticated and difficult procedure, because the effectiveness of actuators during low speed berthing is reduced. In this paper, a new berthing method is discussed. Tugboats are combined with damper systems to ensure safe berthing. A mathematical model describing the interaction between unactuated ship, tugboats and damper systems is presented. An optimal controller is designed to maneuver the ship without oscillation and overshoot. MCL (Marine Cybernetics Lab) model ship is used to evaluate the efficiency of the proposed approach through MatLab simulation.

  • The self-mixing type semiconductor laser Doppler velocimeter(SM-LDV) is applied to measure two simultaneously moving targets with different velocities in the same direction as a prototype target for multiscatterers. The measured beat waveform is found to be a composite wave of each beat waveform measured fran each of only moving target. In the composite waveform, each one-cycle wave has a feature of the sawtooth wave. This fact shows a possibility to discriminate the flow direction of fluid containing multiscatterers with distributed velocities by cooperating an improved version of the direction discrimination circuit already devised by the authors.

  • A common concern regarding cooperative spectrum sensing (CSS) schemes is the occupied bandwidth and the energy consumption during the transmissions of sensing information to the fusion center over the reporting control channels. This concern is intensified if the number of cooperating secondary users in the network is large. This article presents a new fusion strategy for a CSS scheme, aiming at increasing the energy efficiency of a recently proposed bandwidth-efficient fusion scheme. Analytical results and computational simulations unveil a high increase in energy efficiency when compared with the original approach, yet achieving better performances in some situations, and lower implementation complexity.

  • This paper proposes an integrated mobile sink networks management system which can monitor and control various kinds of wireless lan access points, located in many different areas divided by their managing groups, from multi-vendors, and their operations in networks. The proposed system has the center-local interoperability structure cooperating with local-center servers which can perform the same operations as the central servers for wireless lan access points from multi-vendors and wireless lan centric management features. For this purpose, we propose a new way of data design, messaging policy, and hierarchical system structure such that we can achieve stable and consistent management methods for various wireless access points on distributed networks.
