이산화탄소 냉매를 이용한 냉동탑차용 핀-관 증발기의 서리성장에 따른 열교환기 성능에 관한 해석적 연구 (Theoretical Study on Heat Exchanger Performance of a Fin-tube Evaporator with Frost Growth in a $CO_2$ Refrigerator Truck)

  • To analyze the cooling performance of fin-tube evaporator in the refrigerator truck using R744 according to frost growth, the analytical model of evaporator was developed under frost and non-frost conditions. The performance of fin-tube evaporator was investigated with frost thickness and indoor temperature. Besides, the performance of evaporator under frost condition was compared to that under non-frost condition. As a result, area of air passage and system performance were decreased as the frost thickness increased. The cooling capacity was reduced by 10%, 20%, 30% when the frost thickness was 0.7 mm, 1.1 mm, and 1.6 mm respectively. At these conditions, the block ratio was 31%, 48%, and 71%. In addition, the outlet quality of refrigerant was not over 1 when the frost thickness was 1.6 mm in spite of high indoor air temperature.

  • 고공엔진시험설비에서 지상 시험 조건의 시험 가능 여부와 설비 안전 문제를 점검하고자 로켓 엔진 유동을 해석하였다. 진공 챔버를 개방한 상태에서 냉각수를 초음속 디퓨저로 분사하면서 엔진이 작동하는 상황이며, 2차원 축대칭과 플룸, 공기, 냉각수의 3원 혼합물로 가정하였다. 해석 결과 냉각수 유량 200 kg/sec까지 지상 조건 시험이 가능하였다. 그러나 시동 초기 플룸의 역류로 인해 진공 챔버가 고온에 노출되고, 동시에 냉각수 역류로 인해 진공 챔버 내부가 오염되었다. 따라서 충분한 단열 대책과 오염 회피를 위한 작업이 선행되어야 한다.

  • Air conditioners adopting high energy efficiency and low global warming potential (GWP) refrigerant are being developed globally. In case of commercial air conditioner, R32 with lower GWP than R410A is attracting industrial attentions. In this study, the performance of water-to-water geothermal heat pump adopting R32 is compared with that of the heat pump using R410A. By using R32 instead of R410A, heating capacity and COP in heating standard condition can be increased by 8.8% and 6.3% respectively. Also, cooling capacity and COP in cooling standard condition can be increased by 5.3% and 3.1% respectively by using R32. But in case of using R32, systemic improvements are required to decrease discharge temperature of compressor since discharge temperature rises abnormally in heating operations.

Effects of decay heat and cooling condition on the reactor pool natural circulation under RVACS operation in a water 2-D slab model

  • The temperature distribution of the reactor pool under natural circulation induced by the RVACS operation was experimentally studied. According to the Bo' based similarity law, which could reproduce the temperature distribution of the working fluid under natural circulation, SINCRO-2D facility was designed based on the PGSFR. It was reduced to 1 : 25 in length scale, having water as a simulant of the sodium, which is the original working fluid. In general, temperature was stratified, however, effect of the natural circulation flow could be observed by the entrainment of the stratified temperature. Relative cooling contribution of the upper plenum (narrow gap) and lower plenum was approximately 0.2 and 0.8, respectively. In the range of decay heat from 0.2% to 1.0%, only the magnitude of the temperature was changed, while the normalized temperature maintained. Boundary temperature distribution change made a global temperature offset of the pool, without a significant local change. Therefore, the decay heat and cooling boundary condition had no significant effect on temperature distribution characteristics of the pool within the given range of the decay heat and boundary temperature distribution.

  • High temperature super conducting(HTS) cable system for power transmission are under development that will be cooled by sub-cooled liquid nitrogen to provide cooling of the cable and termination. The target of the development during the first 3-years stage is 22.9kV/50MVA class and 30m length cold dielectric type 3-phase power cable. The essential features of the HTS cable cryogenic system and performance conditions for the design of power cable will be discussed.

  • An experimental study was carried out to improve the cooling capacity and performance of the pulse tube refrigerator. Three buffer pulse tube refrigerator was designed and fabricated, and the experimental apparatus was constructed. This paper presents operating process of three buffer pulse tube refrigerator and results obtained with the performance test. The cooldown characteristics and load characteristics are described. The lowest temperature measured in three pulse tube refrigerator was 88K and the cooling capacity at the optimum operating condition was 27W at 120K.

  • This paper presents operating process of the Stirling cryocooler and results obtained with the performance test for Signal Usfa UP 7075 Stirling cryocooler. An experimental study was carried out to develop the more reliable Stirling cryocooler. The cooldown characteristics and load characteristics are described. The lowest temperature measured in the Stirling cryocooler wa 62.5K and the cooling capacity at the optimum operating condition was 0.4W at 77K. At that time, carnot COP was 0.024.

  • Response surface method is employed in optimizing the acoustic performance of automotive engine-cooling axial fans. The effects of modifications in blade geometry on noise reduction are investigated. Taking the far-field noise level as the objective, a quadratic response surface is constructed utilizing D-Optimality condition as the candidate-points selection criteria. It is shown that the quadratic model exhibits an excellent fitting capability resulting in the blade design with low far-field noise level.

  • Advanced gas turbine engines employ turbine entry temperatures so high that cooling of the turbine blades is essential. The coolant flow introduces losses which need to be minimized, and therefore it is important that the minimum amount of coolant should be used. This work presents the result of the one-dimensional analysis and the effect of the boundary conditions on coolant flow rate in gas turbine blades.

  • Recently, titanium alloys have been widely used in aerospace, biomedical engineering, and military industries due to their high strength to weight ratio and corrosion resistance. However, it is well known that titanium alloys are difficult-to-cut materials because of a poor machinability characteristic caused by low thermal conductivity, chemical reactivity with all tool materials at high temperature, and high hardness. To improve the machinability of titanium alloys, cryogenic cooling with LN2 (Liquid Nitrogen) and nanofluid MQL (Minimum Quantity Lubrication) technologies have been studied while turning a Ti-6Al-4V alloy. For the analysis of turning process characteristics, the cutting force, the coefficient of friction, and the surface roughness are measured and analyzed according to varying lubrication and cooling conditions. The experimental results show that combined cryogenic cooling and nanofluid MQL significantly reduces the cutting forces, coefficients of friction and surface roughness when compared to wet condition during the turning process of Ti-6Al-4V.
