The purpose of this study was to examine the influences of mothers' beliefs, guidance, and use of resources for writing on young children's writing ability. A total of 450 children aged 3 to 5 years and their mothers from 6 different provinces participated in this study. The results of this study are as follows. First, mothers conducted more writing guidance to older children. And their beliefs and use of resources for conventional writing were reinforced as children got older. There was no difference in mothers' beliefs and use of resources for emergent writing according to children's age. Second, mothers' beliefs, guidance, and use of resources for children's writing were robustly correlated. These correlations were prominent in each factor of emergent or conventional writing. Third, mothers' writing guidance and use of emergent writing resources had positive effects on children's writing ability, while the use of conventional writing resources had a negative impact.
We fabricated a periodically poled lithium niobate (PPLN) by direct laser-writing of a quasi-phase-matching (QPM) structure in photolithographic process. Because we do not need to prepare a photomask by electron-beam writing, the "maskless" process shortens the fabrication time and significantly reduces the cost. We evaluated the poling quality of the direct laser-written PPLN by measuring the diffraction noise from the surface relief pattern of the fabricated QPM grating and comparing the results to those from a conventional PPLN made with a photomask. The quality of the PPLN fabricated by direct laser-writing was shown to be equivalent to that fabricated by the conventional method.
This paper proposes the algorithm of servo- writing based on feedback error learning neural networks. The controller consists of feedback controller using PID and feedforward controller using gaussian radial basis function network. Because the RBFNs are trained by on-line rule, the controller has adaptation capability. The performance of the proposed controller is compared to that of conventional PID controller. Proposed algorithm shows better performance than PID controller.
Writing letters or patterns on a virtual space by moving a person's gaze is called "eye writing," which is a promising tool for various human-computer interface applications. This paper investigates the use of conventional eye writing recognition algorithms for the purpose of user-independent recognition of eye-written characters. Two algorithms are presented to build the user-independent system: eye-written region extraction using wavelet coefficients and template generation. The experimental results of the proposed system demonstrated that with dynamic positional warping, an F1 score of 79.61% was achieved for 12 eye-written patterns, thereby indicating the possibility of user-independent use of eye writing.
The laser direct writing method has some advantages of being maskless, allowing rapid and inexpensive prototyping in comparison to conventional mask-based photolithography. In general, there are two kinds of laser direct writing methods such as the laser ablation method and the laser polymerization method. The laser polymerization method was studied fur manufacturing waveguide in this paper. It is important to reduce line width for image mode waveguides, so some investigations will be carried out in various conditions of process parameters such as laser power, writing speed, focusing height and optical properties of polymer. Experimentally, the optical waveguide was manufactured trapezoid shape. Through SEM the waveguide was 20 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ width and 7.4 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ height.
This project examined 2, 3, and 4-year-old children (N = 34) in a university campus child care setting to assess their understanding of the graphic features they use in their emergent writing (to distinguish it from a drawing of the same referent). The graphic features present in samples of the children's work were examined and compared to the graphic features children could identify through verbal and nonverbal communication. We examined the frequencies of graphic feature identification, as well as significant differences between graphic feature usage and graphic feature identification. The most frequently used graphic features were linearity, unidirectionality, and small size of units. The most frequently identified graphic feature was conventional letter. Overall, children used significantly more graphic features than they were able to identify. Significant relationships comparing the 2-year-old group and 4-year-old group's usage and identification were also found. The findings are discussed in terms of their application to early childhood classrooms. Teachers can apply these findings when engaging children in conversations about their emergent writing; these discussions are explored as a beneficial teaching tool.
As next generation nonvolatile memory, chalcogenide-based phase change memory can substitute for a conventional flash memory from its high performance. Also, fast writing speed, low writing voltage, high sensing margin, low power consumption and repetition reliability over $10^{15}$ cycle shows its possibility. At our laboratory, we invented ${Ge_1}{Se_1}{Te_2}$ material to alternate with conventional ${Ge_2}{Sb_2}{Te_5}$ for improve its ability. We respect the ${Ge_1}{Se_1}{Te_2}$ material can be a solution for high power consumption problem and long time at 'set' performance. A conductivity experiment from variable temperature was performed to see reliability of repetition at read and write performance. Compare with conventional ${Ge_2}{Sb_2}{Te_5}$ material, these two materials are used as complex compound to get the finest parameter.
The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of science writing heuristic(SWH) instruction based on Tolumin's structure of argument, on students' science process skills and scientific attitude. In the instruction, unstructured problems were selected with issues to be argued, in which interactions among students are stressed. This research involved 58 students of 5th grade at an elementary school, and divided them into an experimental group with 29 and a control group with 29. The former was treated with instruction using argumentation as SWH, while the latter with conventional ways of instruction. Science process skills and scientific attitude were compared between the two groups and within each of the groups. The results implied that science instruction using science writing heuristic is effective in improving learning science process skills and scientific attitude.
According to recent trend, hard disk drive(HDD) has been smaller and less weight. Therefore, it needs new method of writing position information. In this thesis, a new controller that is suitable for SSW is proposed. The controller accepted SSW technology that is used to write position information in current HDD industry. The important condition to perform SSW is to reach constant velocity decided from the head velocity profile as fast as possible. The constant velocity decides the positional accuracy of spiral pattern and setup time decides the capacity of HDD. The head velocity profile as a reference signal must be designed not to cause resonance mode. The proposed controller was designed with consideration of these 3 elements, and it properly works for SSW. The velocity profile designed with SMART control not only minimizes the jerk, but also does not cause the resonance mode of a plant. After designing a conventional PID controller, it compared with electrical spring technique and ZPET technique.
