  • A steam generator poses many difficulties during the development of a sodium-cooled fast reactor because of the sodium-water-reaction problems. Until now, several types of steam generators have been developed, but the specifications of these generators differed in each country. Moreover, even if a country had developed a steam generator, it was not used in the subsequent reactor because the current techniques were not stabilized to select the proper steam generator. As a common development, the Benson steam cycle with few welding locations and high economical efficiency may be adopted. Moreover, the design is dwelled on the convenience of inspection, detection, control, and maintenance for the wear caused by sodiumwater reactions. The specifications of the designed steam generators were reviewed and the current technical problems for steam generators were analyzed. Concepts were proposed to overcome the current technical problems for steam generators.

  • This paper is concerned with automatic telemetering system which reads the consumed quantity of electricity, gas, and piped water. The existing metering method such that a meterman visits households and directly reads meters can cause several problems, including violation of privacy and the possibility of criminal accident, as well the inefficiency in viewpoint of system operation and rate notification. In this paper, we propose a new automatic telemetering and rate notification system, in which the system reads several meters at remote locations and notifies the rates to the customer's cellular phone with short message service(SMS). The proposed system has been developed by using CDMA mobile communication modules and personal computers. This system can operate only with cellular communication network even without wired-internet facilities. In particular, the developed system can provide home security and convenience as well as cost reduction, and thus be applied to intelligent home networks.

  • As population concentration, high-rise, and high-density progresses amid rapid industrialization and urbanization in Korea, green areas in the city have decreased significantly and the natural environment has deteriorated day by day due to various development projects. In order to cope with these social changes, many studies related to park and green areas have been conducted, but in the case of Gwangju-si, only studies on green areas such as vegetation structures, street facilities, and recreation forests have been conducted on park green areas. The situation is not losing. Therefore, in this study, a survey was conducted on Gwangju citizens to understand the usage behavior and satisfaction of park green areas, and to provide basic data for future park development and reorganization. As a result, first, to induce a variety of static and dynamic activities in order to increase the park satisfaction of Gwangju citizens, it is possible to create a park that has not been formed as soon as possible, and by planning programs with various themes. Second, it is necessary to expand green space services in marginalized areas by creating water streams, flower pots, and rooftop greening around the lives of Gwangju citizens, and create park green spaces with themes using cultural and historical resources for each administrative district. Third, in order to solve the dry landscape in some urban areas, it is necessary to establish a three-dimensional landscape plan by creating a variety of green areas such as potted plants, green areas, and street trees, and by giving functions of park green areas such as expanding leisure and convenience facilities.

  • Saengshik beverage products were developed to improve the convenience in consumption, and thereby to expand the Saengshik market. Beverages were prepared from 3 commercial Saengshik products (ES, BS, SS) by mixing with water using a high shear blender. The physicochemical and sensory properties of the Saengshik beverage product were compared. The most acceptable beverage product was made of BS at 7.7% (w/w) level. The apparent viscosity of the beverages increased as the Saengshik levels increased. The beverages at lower Saengshik levels showed dilatant fluid characteristics, while they were Newtonian and pseudoplastic fluids at middle and high Saengshik levels, respectively. The beverage products also showed rheopectic type time-dependency at middle (5.7-9.7%) Saengshik levels, while they were time independent at low and high levels.

  • Streaming potential (SP) arises from fluid flow through effectively connected pores. From this potential, formation water information as well as fluid flow properties can be estimated. As micro particles being located in boundary between subsurface porous media and fluid are charged to form electrical double layer, fluid flow caused by several reasons generates SP, one of electrokinetic phenomena. Occurrence mechanism of SP is complex and signal strength is relatively weak compared to noise. However, application of self potential survey using SP to monitoring of formation fluid is expanding because of its' convenience of exploration without artificial source and repetitiveness of signal. This paper accounts for the occurrence mechanism of SP studied before, including governing equations and analyzes previous various case studies of SP according to the change of physical properties of materials. It helps to increase understanding about SP and also lays the foundations of the application of SP to fields.

  • In this paper, we propose a smart umbrella stand based on the Internet of Things (IoT) that helps people to pack their umbrellas more easily. The proposed smart umbrella stand offers three functions. First, it receives weather information, and a hidden umbrella handle will automatically become visible when it rains, making it easier to grab. Second, the smart umbrella stand is equipped with a heated air system, allowing it to effectively dry umbrellas that have become wet due to rain. This makes it more convenient for users to dry and store their rain-soaked umbrellas. Third, the smart umbrella stand enables users to monitor its current status, track weather conditions, and monitor the water level in the rain gutter through a dedicated application. The proposed smart umbrella stand aims to bring convenience to daily life by making it more convenient to carry an umbrella on rainy days or days with a high probability of rain.

  • In the fluid-structure interaction analysis, the finite element formulation is performed for the wave equation for dynamic fluid pressure, and the dynamic pressure is defined as a degree of freedom at the fluid nodes. Therefore, to connect the fluid to the structure, it is necessary to connect the degree of freedom of fluid dynamic pressure and the degree of freedom of structure displacement through an interface element derived from the relationship between dynamic pressure and displacement. The previously proposed fluid-structure interface elements use conformal finite element meshes in which the fluid and structure match. However, it is challenging to construct conformal meshes when complex models, such as water purification plants and wastewater treatment facilities, are models. Therefore, to increase modeling convenience, a method is required to model the fluid and structure domains by independent finite element meshes and then connect them. In this study, two fluid-structure interface elements, one based on constraints and the other based on the integration of nonsmooth functions, are proposed in nonconformal finite element meshes for structures and fluids, and their accuracy is verified.

  • According to the improvement of computer's performance, the development of Geographic Information System (GIS), and the activation of offering information, a distributed model for analyzing runoff has been studied a lot in recently years. The distribution model is a theoretical and physical model computing runoff as making target basin subdivided parted. In the distributed model developed by this study, the volume of runoff at the surface flow is calculated on the basis of the parameter determined by landcover data and a two-dimensional diffusion wave equation. Most of existing runoff models compute velocity and discharge of flow by applying Manning-Strickler's mean velocity equation and Manning's roughness coefficient. Manning's roughness coefficient is not matched with dimension and ambiguous at computation; Nevertheless, it is widely used in because of its convenience for use. In order to improve those problems, this study developed the runoff model by applying not only Manning-Strickler's equation but also Chezy's mean velocity equation. Furthermore, this study introduced a power law of exponential friction factor expressed by the function of roughness height. The distributed model developed in this study is applied to 6 events of fan-shape basin, oblong shape test basin and Anseongcheon basin as real field conditions. As a result the model is found to be excellent in comparison with the exiting runoff models using for practical engineering application.

  • This research was completed to provide fundamental data regarding the guidelines to installing and managing utility facilities & structures in wetland protected area to advance the functions and sustainable use of ecology services by preserving the ecology within wetland protected area. There were 5 on-site researching areas that were used as the main subject with these areas chosen and considered from 21 inland wetlands that have been designated and are being managed from the Ministry of Environment and by their designated dates as a wetland protected area. The utility facilities in these wetland areas were categorized by their types and a detailed on-site investigation was proceeded with investigation items chosen whereas these facilities are working by their roles from their location, size, used materials, types, information contents and etc., The results showed that regarding informational structures, several locations of information boards were distanced from the main exploring routes which did not consider the visitor's eye level which had their readability dropped and by sunlight, time lapse and water penetration, many information boards were damaged or corrupted so that it was hard to confirm the information noticed or understanding an image. Insufficient observation and educational structures were installed that considered the ecological characteristics of wild animals and their living conditions. Regarding convenience facilities, there were parking lots that were installed on the fore-land and to decrease non-point solution sources, some parking lots needed to be located in protected lowlands while some facilities' shape and colors did not harmonize with their natural surroundings, creating a sense of awareness, which will need some more consideration. As for safety facilities, they were very insufficient compared to other facilities. This means that additional safety structures are needed so that related personnel can be aware of where a visitor is located when an accident occurs. Protectional facilities strongly needed new structures and a management system to cut off entrances and do surveillance so that visitors do not go into areas outside of the managed areas and bring damages to restricted locations. Research labs needed to expand the use of automatic weather systems and water gauge equipments to build fundamental data regarding floodgates that are intimated to the forming of wetlands. Sensor cameras and other types of monitoring systems are needed to monitor the majority types of animals living in the wetlands as well.

  • A discharge measurement is difficult in flood season which is especially important in the water resources field and the continuous discharge measurement for all rivers is impossible on the present system. So, the stage-discharge curve has been used for a long time to produce discharge data of rivers. However, there has been problems from a reliability angle due to the fact that this method uses only stage-discharge relationship, although the stage-discharge curve has the convenience. Therefore, a new mean velocity equation was derived by using Chiu's 2D velocity formula of the entropy concept in this paper. The derived equation reflected hydraulic characteristics such as the depth, gravity acceleration, hydraulic radius, energy slope, kinematic coefficient of viscosity, etc. and estimated also a maximum velocity. In addition, this method verified the relationship between a mean and maximum velocity and estimates an equilibrium state ${\phi}(M)$ well presenting properties of a river cross section as the results. The mean velocity was estimated by using the equilibrium state ${\phi}(M)$, and then the discharge was estimated. To prove this equation to be accurate, the comparison between the measured and estimated discharge is conducted by using the measured laboratory data in the unsteady condition flow showing loop state and the results are consistent. If this study is constantly carried out by using various laboratory and river data, this method will be widely utilized in water resources field.
