  • The effects of proteolytic enzymes (bromelain and bromelain+papain) and a ginger extract were assessed on collagen content and solubility, thermal shrinkage temperature of connective tissue, pH, cooking loss, drip loss, and Warner-Bratzler shear force (WBSF) of M. pectoralis profundus isolated from the beef brisket cut. Both proteolytic enzymes and ginger extract led to a significant increase in cooking loss and collagen solubility compared with untreated controls. On the other hand, the peak ($T_p$) thermal shrinkage temperature markedly decreased in all treatments compared with those in controls. Samples treated with bromelain, bromelain + papain, and ginger extract showed a significant decrease in WBSF by 36%, 40%, and 37%, respectively, compared with untreated controls. Our findings suggest that ginger extract are useful for post-mortem tenderization of meat containing high levels of collagen, compared to control even though, bromelain and bromelain + papain treatments have higher collagen solubility than ginger extract.

  • In a heating control system, the indoor temperature controller transfers temperature signals inputted from the temperature sensor and the user to the valve controller. The valve controller receives these signals then the valve controller controls the valve driving motor on two position control and controls the indoor temperature. When setting up a new valve driving motor from a long distance it is necessary to set up a new valve controller. But occasionary, due to construction, It is impossible to wire between the existing valve controller and the new valve controller. In this situation, the new and existing valve controllers can communicate via power line communication. In this paper it is proposed heating control system controls on two position control via power line communication.

  • Transmission of tuberculosis (TB) is a recognized risk to patients and healthcare workers in healthcare settings. The literature review suggests that implementation of combination control measures reduces the risk of TB transmission. Guidelines suggest a three-level hierarchy of controls including administrative, environmental, and respiratory protection. Among environmental controls, installation of ventilation systems is a priority because ventilation reduces the number of infectious particles in the air. Natural ventilation is cost-effective but depends on climatic conditions. Supplemented intervention such as air-cleaning methods including high efficiency particulate air filtration and ultraviolet germicidal irradiation should be considered in areas where adequate ventilation is difficult to achieve. Personal protective equipment including particulate respirators provides additional benefit when administrative and environmental controls cannot assure protection.

  • The purpose of this study is to obtain 3-dimensional isocomfort workspace using the robot kinematics, which is based on perceived discomfort in varying postures for manipulating four types of controls. Fifteen healthy male subjects participated in the experiment where their perceived discomfort in the given postures was measured, in which L32 orthogonal array was adopted. The shoulder flexion and adduction-abduction, elbow flexion, types of controls, and right/left hands were selected as experimental variables. The results showed that the shoulder flexion and adduction-abduction, elbow flexion, and types of controls significantly affected the perceived discomfort at .alpha. =0.01. Depending upon the types of control used, regression equations predicting perceived dis- comfort and three dimensional isocomfort workspace were suggested based on the experiemntal cata. Using the equations, driver's isocomfort workspace in his/her cabin for pushing operation was illustrated, in which the robot kinematics was employed to describe the translational relationships between the upper arm and the lower arm/hand. It was ecpected that isocomfort workspace could be used as a valuable guideline to design workplaces ergonomically.

  • Direction-of-motion stereotypes between ON/OFF controls were tested using a paper-and-pencil test and interview method. One hundred and forty eight subjects of both genders and from a wide range of ages were asked to indicate the control movement they would make to turn on the light. Stereotypes were obtained for nine types of ON/OFF controls in two different planes. The results show that stereotype for left-right power switches is right for on, and stereotype for up-down switches is up. And, a strong stereotype was found in the case of left-right switches than up-down switches. Some stereotypes are significantly different between genders and age groups. These findings identified in this study can be used to design the ON/OFF switches of the facilities and equipments.

  • This paper deals with the tuning method of PID controls for process controls. It introduces the normalized process gain and the normalized process dead-time for processes based on Ziegler-Nichols tuning methods. In the case of PID auto-tuning, the first, this method applies Ziegler-Nichols tuning method and introduces the set-point weighting for reducing overshoot in the large normalized process gain or small normalized process dead-time, the second, this method is modified and includes the set-point weighting in the small normalized process gain or large normalized process dead-time. In the case of PI auto-tuning, this method is modified for reducing overshoot. This paper obtains empirical data with Ziegler-Nichols methods for refined Ziegler-Nichols tuning methods.

  • In this paper, a hyperstable cascade control scheme for servo drive systems is proposed to reduce the chattering, which is an undesirable property in discontinuously controlled systems. First, a discontinuously controlled hyperstable MRAC scheme is designed with respect to PI speed control system using only output variables, and then a linear position controller is cascaded. It is shown that the above system is asymptotically stable and the chattering is greatly reduced at a constant speed provided that the disturbance torque satisfies a certain condition.

  • Automotive electronics as we know it today encompasses a wide variety of devices and systems. Key to them all, and those yet to come. is the ability to sense and measure accurately automotive control parameters. In other words, sensors and actuators are the heart of any automotive electronics application. The important of sensors and actuators cannot be overemphasized. The future growth of automotive electronics is arguably more dependent on sufficiently accurate and low-cost sensors and actuators than on computers, controls, displays, and other technologies. Without them, all of controls system - engine. transmission. cruise, braking, traction, suspension, steering, lighting, windshield wipers, air conditioner/hearter - would not be possible. Those controls, of course, are key to car operation and they have made cars over the years more drivable, safe, and reliable. In this lecture, the principle and future trends of electronic control gasoline engine will be discuss.

  • In this paper, the regenerative braking control system for 4 WD Electric Vehicle (EV) is proposed. Many studies on efficient drive of EV are being done to prolong the one charge distance. By using the regenerative braking (REGEN), the resulting EV system has following advantages : a) battery is recharged with the mechanical energy of EV, b) the running load can be reduced, and consequently the efficiency can be increased. The problem of REGEN that the power acceptance ability of battery is limited can be solved by controlling regenerative braking torque. The proposed control system has following characteristics. : a) It controls regenerative power by varying mechanical braking torque. b) It controls mechanical braking torque using load torque observer. c) It controls the regenerative braking torque independently. The control scheme and simulation results are presented for the experimental car.
