  • In the previous work, we dealt with a traffic analysis of network-based control system and its architecture using the CAN protocol. It is difficult to determine an optimal network architecture for a specific system. In this paper, we propose the architecture of network-based control system applicable to a specific AGV system with manipulator arms. We define the fixed number of periodic messages to be occurred in this system. In the proposed system architecture, we analyse its traffic for the real-time communication of all messages, determine the optimal sampling period of an analog sensor to be satisfied with the required specification and the number of possible sensors to be added through simulation.

  • Requirements for Distributed Monitoring and Control Networks (DMCN) differ greatly from those of typical data networks. Specifically, any DMCN technology which employs a fieldbus protocol is different from If network protocol TCP/IP. In general, one needs to integrate fieldbus protocol and TCP/IP to realize DMCN over IP network or internet Interoperability between devices and equipments is essential to enhance the quality and the performance of predictive maintenance (PM). This paper suggests a basic framework for LonWorks-based DMCN over IP network and a method to guarantee interoperability between devices and equipments.

  • This paper proposes a home control system architecture that have network configuration function. The proposed home control system architecture is implemented with partly hardware and software. For implementation of this system architecture, we developed ECONICS which is home automation controller. ECONICS consists of main board and communication modem. This communication modem supply the power line communication. The physical layer and the MAC layer software of EIA 709.1 standard protocol are implemented in communication modem. The upper layer software of EIA 709.1 standard protocol and home configuration software for home network installation, management, diagnostics, control and monitoring are implemented in main board of ECONICS. We verified the commercial feasibility of the proposed system through the home network configuration and operation. As a result, we have concluded that the proposed home control system architecture provides all the key function necessary to easily manage and control home network nodes.

  • Recent trends in internet access to the device network require that information be provided from anywhere in the enterprise. One then needs to integrate both device network protocol and data network protocol to realize Virtual Device Network (VDN). Interoperability between devices and equipments is essential to enhance the quality and the performance of VDN. LonWorks technology is incorporated as device network protocol for interoperability. VDN integrating both device network and data network has varying time delay. Inherent varying time delay of VDN can significantly degrade the reliability of Distributed Control System. This study investigates the transmission characteristics of VDN and s...

  • IEC61162-3 known as NMEA2000 protocol is approved as a standard network of SOLAS ship by ISO and used for the instrument network which exchanges data in real-time. For easy the development of ship network equipments, this study is focused on the development of SoC which can convert to NMEA2000 protocol from various kind of protocols such as TCP/IP, NMEA0183, RS422 and others using FPGA and u-Blaze. In this paper, we composed NMEA2000 protocol stack on FPGA and verified NMEA2000 network communication of FPGA system by connecting with commercialized devices through PC Hyper-terminal and network monitoring program.

  • According to the computerization of railway signaling systems, the interface link between the signaling systems has been replaced by the digital communication channel. At the same time, the importance of the communication link is more pronounced than before. In this paper, new Network-based protocol between railway signaling and SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition system) has designed and the overview of designed protocol is briefly represented. And also this paper addresses analysis of newly designed train control systems. Fame error rates of the data transmissions are calculated and compared for the two cases that the CTC (Centralized Traffic Control)/SCADA has an extra data transmission error control (CRC16) besides the inherent error control of the Ethernet and that the CTC/SCADA has no extra data transmission error control. With simulation results it has been verified that the additional error control code contributes to lowering the frame error rate. It will be expected to increase the safety, reliability and efficiency of maintenance of the signaling systems by using the designed protocol for railway signaling system.

  • Safety critical systems such as x-by-wire systems require in-vehicle network systems that can interconnect various sensors, actuators, and controllers. These networks need to have high data rate, deterministic operation, and fault tolerance. Recently, FlexRay protocol that is a time-triggered protocol has been introduced, and many automotive companies have been focusing on this protocol. This paper presents a design method of FlexRay network system and implementation of FlexRay-based motor control system.

  • This dissertation suggests and implements a middle level network which is called PICNET-NP (Plant Implementation and Control Network for Nuclear Power Plant). PICNET-NP is based partly on IEEE 802.4 token-passing bus access method and partly on IEEE 802.3 physical layer. For this purpose a new interface a physical layer service translator, is introduced. A control network using this method is implemented and applied to a distributed real-time system. To verify the performance of proposed protocol experimental were carried out, and the following results are obtained. 1) proper initialization of the protocol. 2) normal receiving and transmission of data. 3) proper switching of transmission media in case of a fault condition on the one of transmission media. The proposed protocol exhibits the excellent performance in the experimental system. From the test results in the experimental system, the proposed protocol, PICNET-NP, can be used for the upgrading of a nuclear power plant and the distributed control system in the next generation of nuclear power plant.

  • As a way to build more efficient and intelligent container cranes for todays hub ports, communication networks are used to interconnect numerous sensors, actuators, controllers, and operator switches and consoles that are spatially distributed over a crane. Various signals such as sensor values and operator's commands are digitized and broadcast on the network instead of using separate wiring cables. This not only makes the design and manufacturing of a crane more efficient, but also easier implementation of intelligent control algorithms. This paper presents the performance evaluation of CAN(Controller Area Network), TTP(Time Triggered Protocol) and Byteflight that can be used for cranes. Through discrete event simulation, several important quantitative performance factors such as the probability of a transmission failure, average system delay (data latency) and maximum system delay have been evaluated.
