The study aims at offering a solution to the problems of transmission delay and data throughput decrease as the number of contending On-Board Units (OBU) increases by applying CSMA medium access control protocol based upon IEEE 802.11p. In a competition-based medium, contention probability becomes high as OBU increases. In order to improve the performance of this medium access layer, the author proposes EDCA which a adaptive adjustment of the Contention Windows (CW) considering traffic density and data type. EDCA applies fixed values of Minimum Contention Window (CWmin) and Maximum Contention Window (CWmax) for each of four kinds of Access Categories (AC) for channel-specific service differentiation. EDCA does not guarantee the channel-specific features and network state whereas it guarantees inter-AC differentiation by classifying into traffic features. Thus it is not possible to actively respond to a contention caused by network congestion occurring in a short moment in channel. As a solution, CWminAS(CWmin Adaptation Scheme) and ACATICT(Adaptive Contention window Adjustment Technique based on Individual Class Traffic) are proposed as active CW control techniques. In previous researches, the contention probabilities for each value of AC were not examined or a single channel based AC value was considered. And the channel-specific demands of IEEE 802.11p and the corresponding contention probabilities were not reflected in the studies. The study considers the collision number of a previous service section and the current network congestion proposes a dynamic control technique ACCW(Adaptive Control of Contention windows in considering the WAVE situation) for CW of the next channel.

We propose a distributed medium access control protocol for cognitive radio networks to opportunistically utilize multiple channels. Under the proposed protocol, cognitive radio nodes forecast and rank channel availability observing primary users' activities on the channels for a period of time by time series analyzing using smoothing models for seasonal data by Winters' method. The proposed approach protects primary users, mitigates channel access delay, and increases network performance. We analyze the optimal time to sense channels to avoid conflict with the primary users. We simulate and compare the proposed protocol with the existing protocol. The results show that the proposed approach utilizes channels more efficiently.
In this paper, we proposed the implementation of multiple access serial communications with improved transmission control. For serial communications. RS232 protocol is used and the transmitting data and is merged to form data channel. Multiple host access is configures by using the common data channel and ground channel. 8bit data transfer with variable frame size is transferred by using the 16bit host ID. Packet is composed of HEADER, receiver ID. variable length data frame, TAIL and CRC informations. Multiple hosts are allowed to transfer packet with the other hosts through the common communication channel. Byte-stuffing is used to differentiate the transfer rate of PC is performed.

In the CDMA mobile communication system, reverse power control can be used to minimize the interference level for a good quality of the voice channel, and used to maxmize the system capacity. In this paper, we have analyed the environment of the K-parameter and the access procedure for the mobile station, and proposed a new algorithm for the access probe procedure of the station. K-parameter is determined according to the environment of the base station and access probe can adaptively control the power according to the position changes of the mobile station or the rapid and various state changes of the channel. Simulation results in the limited test environment show that it can increase the system capacity and decrease the power comsumption of the mobile station while maintaining the good and stable quality of the voice channel.

In this paper, we propose an asynchronous MAC protocol to minimize energy usage and to maximize data throughput for a wireless sensor network in multi channel environments. Our proposed SPMC-MAC (Slim Preamble Multi-Channel Media Access Control) adopts the preamble sliming mechanism proposed in [6] that takes advantage of the knowledge about the wakeup time of the receiver node. The preamble contains the receiver's ID and a randomly selected channel ID for data communication, and it is transmitted over a dedicated common channel. The power control has the benefit of keeping an appropriate number of nodes with the communication range, resulting in reduced collision and interference. We compare our SPMC-MAC and X-MAC extensively in terms of energy consumption and throughput using mathematical analysis and simulation.

In this Paper, we analyzed the HIPERLAN(Hlgh PErformance Radio LAN) MAC(Medium Access Control) protocol, which was a standard for Wireless LANs defined by ETSI. We analyzed mathematically the elimination phase and the yield phase of the channel contention phase of CAC(Channel Access Control) layer in the infinite population model of the HIPERLAN using EY-NPMA(Elimination Yield-Nonpreemptive Priority Multiple Access)protocol. Also we analyzed the probability of successful transmission in the transmission phase. And, we proved results of a mathematical analysis by the simulation of HIPERLAN MAC protocol.

We propose a multi-access points transmit power control algorithm in consideration of the channel estimation error and the multi-rate service. In the real communication systems, the channel estimation at the receiver side is imperfect due to limited number of pilot symbol usage. Furthermore, the multi-rate service is supported. We theoretically prove the uniqueness and the convergence of the proposed algorithm in multi-rate service environment. The proposed algorithm composes of one inner loop part and one outer loop part. Simulation results show that 1) the inner loop algorithm guarantees convergence of the transmit power level and the multi-rate service, 2) the outer loop algorithm compensates for the channel estimation error.

The IEEE 802.11e EDCA (Enhanced Distributed Channel Access) mechanism has been proposed to improve the QoS (Quality of Service) of various services in WLANs (Wireless Local Area Networks). By differentiating the channel access delay depending on ACs (Access Categories), this mechanism can provide the relative service differentiation among ACs. In this paper, we consider that WLAN is deployed in medical environments to transfer medical traffic and we reveal that the quality of the medical traffic (in particular, ECG signals) is significantly deteriorated even with the service differentiation by IEEE 802.11e EDCA. Also, we analyze the reason for performance degradation and show that IEEE 802.11e EDCA has difficulty in protecting the transmission opportunity of high-priority traffic against low-priority traffic. In order to assure medical-grade QoS, we firstly define the service priority of medical traffic based on their characteristics and requirements, and then we propose the enhanced channel access scheme, referred to as DIFF-CW. The proposed scheme differentiates CW (Contention Window) depending on the service priority and modifies the channel access procedure for low-priority traffic. The simulation results confirm that the DIFF-CW scheme not only assures the QoS of medical traffic but also improves the overall channel utilization.
In this paper, we introduced our designed TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access) based MAC (Medium Access Control) protocol for Home Networks called HomeTDMA. We have implemented and tested it in a test bed using crossbow motes and TinyOS. We also have compared HomeTDMA and CSMA (Carrier Sense Multiple Access) in terms of space and time complexity, channel access time, delivery success ratio, and throughput. Based on our results, HomeTDMA has an advantage over CSMA on channel access time, throughput and delivery success ratioIn the case of complexity, HomeTDMA is more complex compared to CSMA. Thus, CSMA is more appropriate in wireless sensor networks (WSNs) where memory, energy, and throughput are important parameters to be considered. However, HomeTDMA has a natural advantage of collision free medium access and is very promising for home networks where a reliable transmission or data transfer and congestion control is highly preferred.
We propose the control channel access scheme for multi-interface multi-hop cognitive radio (CR) environment having a cluster structure. Due to the difficulty of obtaining common channels across the entire CR network, most multi-interface multi-hop CR networks put the control channel outside the CR bandwidth and dedicate one network interface to it in order to exchange the control information such as the activation of licensed users. However, this will be the waste of the network interface. Our focus is how to alternate between the control and the data channel without multichannel hidden node problem under the cluster structure where CR nodes connect with neighbors through multiple data channels. By using simulation, we evaluate the performance of the proposed scheme. The results show that the proposed scheme achieves higher network throughput than the dedicated scheme where one network interface card should dedicate to the control channel and cannot be used for data transmission.
