This paper proposed the content-based retrieval system as a method for performing image retrieval through the effective feature extraction of the object of significant meaning based on the characteristics of man's visual system. To allow the object region of interest to be primarily detected, the region, being comparatively large size, greatly different from the background color and located in the middle of the image, was judged as the major object with a meaning. To get the original features of the image, the cumulative sum of tile declination difference vector the segment of the object contour had and the signature of the bipartite object were extracted and used in the form of being applied to the rotation of the object and the change of the size after partition of the total length of the object contour of the image into the normalized segment. Starting with this form feature, it was possible to make a retrieval robust to any change in translation, rotation and scaling by combining information on the texture sample, color and eccentricity and measuring the degree of similarity. It responded less sensitively to the phenomenon of distortion of the object feature due to the partial change or damage of the region. Also, the method of imposing a different weight of similarity on the image feature based on the relationship of complexity between measured objects using the fractal dimension by the Boxing-Counting Dimension minimized the wrong retrieval and showed more efficient retrieval rate.

If we reduce the number of vertexes to decrease bit rate in polygon-based shape coding, the distortion of approximated contour increases rapidly. On the other hand, if we reduce the distortion, the number of vertexes increases rapidly and many bits are required to encode the vertexes. To improve this problem, in this paper we propose the approximation vertex search method. The encoder in the proposed method searches the type of distortion patterns that is the most similar to the shape which polygon edge and contour segment form and then encodes it. And then, the decoder mathematically finds the approximated vertexes from decoded distortion pattern information. Therefore, the proposed algorithm results in encoding many vertexes at a low bit rate and having the smoother shape than conventional method. As shown in computer simulation, the proposed method has less distortion than conventional method. It costs less bit rate by $10{\sim}20%$ than conventional algorithm in same distortion.
In this paper, we proposed the skin color based hand and finger detection technology for the gesture recognition in CCTV surveillance. The aim of this paper is to present the methodology for hand detection and propose the finger detection method. The detected hand and finger can be used to implement the non-contact mouse. This technology can be used to control the home devices such as home-theater and television. Skin color is used to segment the hand region from background and contour is extracted from the segmented hand. Analysis of contour gives us the location of finger tip in the hand. After detecting the location of the fingertip, this system tracks the fingertip by using only R channel alone, and in recognition of hand motions to apply differential image, such as the removal of useless image shows a robust side. We explain about experiment which relates in fingertip tracking and finger gestures recognition, and experiment result shows the accuracy above 96%.

Purpose: The reconstruction of mandibular defects poses many difficulties due to the unique, complex shape of the mandible and the temporomandibular joints. With development of microvascular anastomosis, free tissue transplantation techniques, such as deep circumflex iliac artery (DCIA) flap and fibular free flap (FFF), were developed. The DCIA offers good quality and quantity of bone tissue for mandibular segmental defect and implant for dental rehabilitation. Virtual surgical planning (VSP) and stereolithography-guided osteotomy are currently successfully applied in three-dimensional mandibular reconstruction, but most use FFF. There are only a few articles on reconstruction with the DCIA that assess the postoperative results. Methods: Three patients admitted during a five month period (April of 2013 to August of 2013) underwent resection of mandible and DCIA musculo-osseous reconstruction using a VSP and stereolithographic modeling and assessment of outcomes included technical accuracy, esthetic contour, and functional outcomes. Results: This technique yielded iliac bone segment with excellent apposition and duplication of the preoperative plan. Flap survival was 100 percent and all patients maintained preoperative occlusion and contour. Conclusion: Based on our experience, we offer considerations and logically consistent protocols by classification of mandibular defects, and demonstrate the benefits in VSP and stereolithographic modeling of mandibular reconstructive surgery with DCIA flap.
Two experiments were conducted to investigate the impact of binocular disparity information on Neon color spreading (NCS). The stimuli was the modification of Ehrenstein figure used by Redies and Spillmann(1981); inner and outer segments were achromatic and middle segments was chromatic. In experiment 1, the effect of binocular disparity was tested in each segment that were divided inner, middle and outer segments. In experiment 2, the impact of added segments that were put in different depth place were tested. The results showed that the segments on same place were, the clearer the NCS was. Consistent with the previous studies, the effect of color segment in front or in behind was not appeared. The case of added segments, regardless of added segments were placed either front or behind, the NCS was reduced. But the effect of added outer segments was more affect then added inner segments. This results were suggested that NCS could be affected by depth information but more affected by stage of before depth processing.
The most famous algorithm of splitting and connecting Snake for extracting the boundary of multiple objects is the nearest method using the distance between snake points. It often can't split and connect Snake due to object topology. In this paper, its problem was discussed experimentally. The new algorithm using vector between Snake segment is proposed in order to split and connect Snake with complicated topology of objects. It is shown by experiment of two test images with 3 and 5 objects that the proposed one works better than the nearest one.
In recent years, multifractal-based analysis methods have been widely applied in engineering. Among these methods, multifractal detrended cross-correlation analysis (MFDXA), a branch of fractal analysis, has been successfully applied in the fields of finance and biomedicine. For its great potential in reflecting the subtle characteristic among signals, a structural health monitoring (SHM) system based on MFDXA is proposed. In this system, damage assessment is conducted by exploiting the concept of multifractal theory to quantify the complexity of the vibration signal measured from a structure. According to the proposed algorithm, the damage condition is first distinguished by multifractal detrended fluctuation analysis. Subsequently, the relationship between the q-order, q-order detrended covariance, and length of segment is further explored. The dissimilarity between damaged and undamaged cases is visualized on contour diagrams, and the damage location can thus be detected using signals measured from different floors. Moreover, a damage index is proposed to efficiently enhance the SHM process. A seven-story benchmark structure, located at the National Center for Research on Earthquake Engineering (NCREE), was employed for an experimental verification to demonstrate the performance of the proposed SHM algorithm. According to the results, the damage condition and orientation could be correctly identified using the MFDXA algorithm and the proposed damage index. Since only the ambient vibration signal is required along with a set of initial reference measurements, the proposed SHM system can provide a lower cost, efficient, and reliable monitoring process.
The informative or important entities in utterances are focused and the focused items are usually accompanied by changes in phonetic manifestation. Phonetic realizations triggered by focus include changes of tonal contours as well as segmental strengthening. Focus in Korean is characterized by new phrase initiation, dephrasing, and initial tone contour with an enlarged pitch range in addition to segmentally lengthened initial segment. Focusing on the prosodic cues which play an important role in delivering the speakers' intention, this study aims to find out what intonational characteristics of Korean focus are realized by English learners of Korean. The English learners are divided into two groups according to their fluency in Korean, and the differences in focus realization between each group are discussed. Furthermore, the phonological and phonetic realizations of focus by English learners of Korean are compared to those by Korean native speakers. The results of this study yields two suggestions for Korean intonation education of L2 learners. First, the comparison between the two speaker groups can give better understanding in how and why the Korean intonation of English speakers is different from that of Koreans. Second, each phonological and phonetic characteristic of focus realization can weigh differently and its realization provides a criterion for evaluation of L2 Korean proficiency.
Path of insertion(1) can be defined that the direction of movement of an appliance from the point of initial contact of its rigid parts with the supporting teeth to the place of final rest. Krol(2) described that in the conventional path of insertion, all the rests are seated more or less simultaneously but in the use of the rotational path one segment of the partial denture is seated first then the remainder of the prosthesis is rotated into position. The rotational path of insertion is limited primarily to the tooth borne prosthesis. Its great advantages are the elimination of anterior clasps to improve ethetic and reduction of tooth coverage to minimize plaque accumulation. Either a rigid minor connector or proximal plate provides retention through its intimate contact with a proximal tooth surface below the height of contour as indicated at a o-degree tilt. A specially designed rest in conjunction with this retentive component satisfies the basic requirements of clasp design. The purpose of this study was a clinical evaluation of rotational path removable partial dentures. Author delivered rotational path removable partial dentures to three different cases of patients and evaluated function of the dentures, difficulties of removal and insertion of the dentures and supporting structures of the abutment teeth by means of clinical and X-ray examinations for eighteen months. According to the examination data author came to the conclusion that the prognosis of the rotational path removable partial dentures was excellent.
To get more natural synthetic speech generated by a Korean TTS (Text-To-Speech) system, we have to know all the possible prosodic rules in Korean spoken language. We should find out these rules from linguistic, phonetic information or from real speech. In general, all of these rules should be integrated into a prosody-generation algorithm in a TTS system. But this algorithm cannot cover up all the possible prosodic rules in a language and it is not perfect, so the naturalness of synthesized speech cannot be as good as we expect. ANNs (Artificial Neural Networks) can be trained to learn the prosodic rules in Korean spoken language. To train and test ANNs, we need to prepare the prosodic patterns of all the phonemic segments in a prosodic corpus. A prosodic corpus will include meaningful sentences to represent all the possible prosodic rules. Sentences in the corpus were made by picking up a series of words from the list of PB (phonetically Balanced) isolated words. These sentences in the corpus were read by speakers, recorded, and collected as a speech database. By analyzing recorded real speech, we can extract prosodic pattern about each phoneme, and assign them as target and test patterns for ANNs. ANNs can learn the prosody from natural speech and generate prosodic patterns of the central phonemic segment in phoneme strings as output response of ANNs when phoneme strings of a sentence are given to ANNs as input stimuli.
