저전력 멀티미디어 재생 기법 (PoMP : Power conscious Multimedia Player)

  • Electricity is the prime commodity in mobile device, e.g. smart phone, PDA, MP3 player and etc. This strict restriction on power consumption requirement of the mobile device puts unique demand in designing hardware and software components of the device. In this paper, we address the issue of minimizing the power consumption in retrieving the continuous media data from the disk drive for real-time playback purpose. Different from the legacy text based data, real-time multimedia playback requires that the storage supplies the data block continuous fashion. This may put immense burden on the power scarce environment since the disk Is required to be active for the entire playback duration. We develop elaborate algorithm which carefully analyzes the power consumption profile of the disk drive and which establishes the data retrieval schedule for the given playback. It computes the amount of data blocks to read, the length of active and standby period. According to our simulation result, the ARM algorithm exhibits superior performance in continuous media retrieval from the aspect of power consumption to legacy playback scheme.

기존 정수처리방법으로 제거가 어려운 유기물에 대한 실험적 연구 (Retrospect on Refractories in Water Treatment)

  • As a basic experiment to develope biological pretreatment proces~ in water treatment, the experiments on biodegradability and isothermal adsorption of activated carbon were performed on refractories such as humic acid, $NH_3-N$, phenol and ABS which caused the problems in drinking water treatment. Also, the treatabilities on humic acid were examined in the continuous flow type reactors. The removal efficiencies of humic acid, $NH_3-N$, phenol and ABS in the biodegradable experiments for 5 days were 20.1%, 73.4%, 91.7% and 97.5%, respectively. In the isothermal adsorption test of refractories on activated carbon to be used as a media in the continuous flow type reactors, ABS and phenol are adsorbed easily, but humic acid and $NH_3-N$ are difficult to be done. The removal efficiencies of humic acid in granular activated carbon(GAC) reactor were about 7-8% higher than in biological activated carbon(BAC) reactor. The removal efficiencies of humic acid in biological fluidized bed(BFB) reactor were about 30% in GAC media, but were almost zero in sea sand media.

점성액체 기포탑에서 탑의 직경이 기포, wake 및 연속액상 체류량에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Column Diameter on the Holdups of Bubble, Wake and Continuous Liquid Phase in Bubble Columns with Viscous Liquid Medium)

  • 점성액체 기포탑에서 기포, wake 및 연속액상들의 체류량 특성을 고찰하였다. 기포탑의 직경(0.051, 0.076, 0.102 and 0.152 m ID), 기체 유속(0.02~0.16 m/s) 그리고 연속액상의 점도(0.001~0.050 $Pa{\cdot}s$)가 기포, wake 및 연속액상의 체류량에 미치는 영향을 검토하였다. 기포, wake 그리고 연속액상들은 이중 전기 저항탐침방법에 의하여 성공적으로 구별할 수 있었다. 압축된 여과공기와 물 또는 CMC 수용액을 각각 기체와 연속액상으로 사용하였다. 기포탑에서 기포와 wake 상들을 연속적으로 검침하기위해 자료수집장치(DT 2805 Lab Card)와 컴퓨터를 사용하였다. 탐침 써키트로부터 수집된 아날로그 자료는 디지털 자료로 변환되었으며, 이들 자료를 이용하여 기포탑에서 상승하는 단일기포 뿐만이 아니라 다중기포들의 후면에서 wake 상을 검침할 수 있었다. 기포와 wake 상의 체류량은 각각 기포탑의 직경과 연속액상의 점도가 증가함에 따라 감소하였으나 연속액상의 체류량은 증가하였다. 그러나, 기포와 wake의 체류량은 각각 기체 유속이 증가함에 따라 증가한 반면 연속액상의 체류량은 감소하였다. wake 상 체류량에 대한 기포 체류량의 비율은 기포탑의 직경 또는 기체의 유속이 증가함에 따라 감소한 반면 연속액상의 점도가 증가함에 점성액체 기포탑에서 기포, wake 그리고 연속액상의 체류량은 본 연구의 실험범위에서 다음과 같은 실험변수의 상관식으로 나타낼 수 있었다. ${\varepsilon}_B=0.043D^{-0.18}U_G^{0.56}{\mu}_L^{-0.13}$, ${\varepsilon}_W=0.003D^{-0.85}U_G^{0.46}{\mu}_L^{-0.10}$, ${\varepsilon}_C=1.179D^{0.09}U_G^{-0.13}{\mu}_L^{0.04}$.

VOD 서버에서 효율적인 연속미디어 서비스를 위한 동적 버퍼 분할 기법 (Dynamic Buffer Partitioning Technique for Efficient Continuous Media Service in VOD Servers)

  • VOD 서버는 비디오와 같은 연속미디어를 여러 사용자에게 매끄럽게 서비스하기 위해 데이터의 일부를 미리 서버 버퍼로 읽어 들여 정교하게 관리한다. 이때 서버 버퍼로 읽어 들인 연속미디어 데이터를 다른 사용자가 재사용하면 저장장치로의 접근 횟수가 줄어들고 사용자의 대기 시간이 감소된다. 본 논문에서는 서버의 버퍼를 그룹으로 분할하고 각 그룹에서 활용도가 가장 낮은 버퍼 공간을 동적으로 재분할하여 새로운 사용자에게 할당하는 동적 버퍼 분할 기법을 제안하고, 이를 다중 스트림과 클립 데이터, 그리고 VCR 기능을 처리하도록 확장한다. 제안된 기법에서는 버퍼 활용도가 높아져 병행 사용자의 수가 증가되고, 저장장치의 대역폭 한계에 서서히 도달하여 사용자의 평균 대기시간이 감소된다. 시뮬레이션을 통해 동적 버퍼 분할 기법과 기존의 버퍼 분할 기법에 대한 사용자 평균 대기시간과 병행 사용자의 수를 관찰한 결과, 평균 대기 시간은 최소 50% 이상 감소되고 병행 사용자의 수는 1∼7% 증가함을 확인하였다.

Media Use and Political Participation in China: Taking Three National Large-N Surveys as Examples

  • In the age of continuous media change and the coexistence of multiple forms of media, the relationship between the public's media use and political participation is an urgent area of study. This paper makes use of large national sample surveys from 2002, 2011, and 2015, summarizes the change of the public's media use by descriptive statistics analysis, and finds that while the Internet has become an important communication channel, the use of Internet for political information and political participation is still overestimated. Compared to the weak impact of different media channels for political information on political participation, the frequency of media exposure and Internet use play a significant role in political participation. Because of the negative effect of the frequency of Internet use on political participation, the democratization function of the Internet needs to be treated with caution. This paper describes media use and its roles in contemporary China, analyzes the impact of media use on political participation, and extends the cross-cultural application of the theory of political communication.

동영상의 사회적 시청 동기와 만족도 및 지속의도에서 커뮤니케이션 행위의 조절효과 분석 (Social Viewing Motivations, Satisfaction, and Continuous Use Intention: Moderating Effects of Communication Behavior)

  • Social viewing has become an increasingly common viewing pattern by combining SNS use with video-watching. Accordingly, social viewing has attracted much scholarly attention, but a more comprehensive understanding of the process and effects of social viewing is warranted. For this, this study incorporated social viewing motivations, viewer satisfaction, and the continuous use intention, taking the viewer's communicative behavior into account as a possible moderator. This study conducted an online survey (N=334). Among four motivations, enjoyment, sharing and expression were significant predictors of program and communication satisfaction. Information, however, was only associated with program satisfaction but not with communication satisfaction. The moderating effects of three communication behaviors, production, sharing, and reception, were discussed in the relationship between user motivations and viewing satisfaction and continuous use intention. Production behaviors played a significant moderating role in between enjoyment, information, sharing, and communication satisfaction. Sharing moderatied information, sharing, and program satisfaction, whereas reception was not a significant moderator.

뉴 미디어 건축의 설계방법에 관한 고찰 - 伊東豊雄의 센다이 미디어테크를 中心으로 - (A Research on the design method of New Media Architecture in Sendai mediatheque - Based on the Sendai Mediatheque by Toyo Ito -)

  • The Propose of this research was to consider how the New Media Architecture was applied to contemporary architecture according to the analysis of the design method process of Toyo Ito. Sendai Mediatheque by Toyo Ito stands as one of the most symbolic statement In New Media architecture. The four principal architectural elements of the Mediatheque are the digital image, the continuous space, the tube, and the skin facade. The digital image express forms of communication, person-to-person and person-to-thing, and they vary according to the media utilized on each level. The three skin elements of the Mediatheque are a double skin of MPG, skin of louvers, skin of fine-floor decking. The tubes act as columns while enveloping light, air, water, electricity the passage of people, as well as the means of transferring material. The thirteen tubes of different sizes prevent the erection of wall and suggest places instead of rooms. Instead of being limited to certain specified actions in clearly defined rooms, people are free to choose places for their actions in the continuous space.

Continuous usage intention of social media as an online information distribution channels

  • Purpose: This study aimed to explore the variables that may play a significant role in inducing Facebook users to use Facebook as online information distribution channels continuously. Research design, data, and methodology: The population of this study are all Facebook users who have actively used Facebook as a social media as online information distribution for at least one year. Purposive sampling technique was used in this study and 290 respondents were enrolled. The data was collected using a questionnaire and further analyzed with path analysis and SEM-PLS approach. Result: The results showed that perceived ease of use, perceived critical mass, perceived enjoyment, and perceived information intelligence have a positive and a significant effect towards perceived usefulness. Perceived usefulness also has a positive and significant effect on users' attitude, and users' attitude has a positive and significant effect on intentions to use Facebook continuously among its users. Conclusions: Hence, it is important for Facebook as an online information distribution channel to maintain its perceived usefulness in order to create a positive impact on its users' and induce Facebook users' to use social media continuously.

  • For landfill monitoring and aftercare, long-term prognoses of emission and deformation behaviour are required. Landfills may be considered as heterogeneous porous soil-like structures, in which flow and transport processes of gases and liquids interact with local material degradation and mechanical deformation of the solid skeleton. Therefore, in the framework of continuous porous media mechanics a model is developed that permits the investigation of coupled mechanical, hydraulical and biochemical processes in municipal solid waste landfills.

서비스 품질 저하 기능의 미디어내 동기화 방안 (A Intra-media Synchronization Scheme using Media Scaling)

  • 통신망을 통하여 시간 의존 미디어를 전송하면 부하 변동에 따라 운송지연(transit delay)이 일정하지 않으므로 수신측에 도착하는 패킷간에 원래의 시간 관계가 유지되지 않는 비동기 현상이 나타난다. 현재 제안된 여러 동기화 방안들은 운송지연 특성을 보장하는 자원 보장형 통신망과 운송지연 변화의 폭이 큰 자원 비보장형 통신망 환경을 고려한 2가지 형태가 존재한다. 자원 보장형 통신망에서는 예약이나 협상을 통해 최소 및 최대 운송지연이 전송 기간동안 계속 유지하는 반면, 자원 비보장형 통신망에서는 가능한 최대의 대역폭을 사용하는 최대 노력 (best-effort) 서비스를 사용한다. 이 논문은 패킷망이나 인터넷과 같은 자원 비보장형 통신망 환경에서 통신망의 부하 변화에 동적으로 적응하여 동기화된 전달(playout)을 제공하는 미디어내 동기화 방안(Intra-media Synchronization)에 관한 것이다. 제안하는 방안은 전송 경로의 운송지연 통계치로부터 다음 전송할 패킷의 운송지연을 추정하여 송신 시간을 조절함으로써, 통신망의 부하로 인한 운송지연의 변화에 적응하여 수신 패킷의 도착 시간을 일정한 범위 내로 유지한다. 또한 망 혼잡을 방지하고 최소 서비스품질을 유지하기 위하여 통신망의 대역폭에 맞추어 전송률 조정과 패킷 폐기를 병행하는 미디어 스케일링을 적용하였다.
