This experiment was carried out to confirm that phytochrome regulates anthocyanin bio-synthesis during cell suspension culture system of grape or not. In suspension culture of grape, maximum accumulation of anthocyanin was observed at the stationary phase under continuous white light condition. From mono-chromatic light interruption for 24h at the 4th or 7th day on the suspension cultured cells, the anthocyanin accumulation was highly enhanced at the light interruption at 7th day than 4th day under all monochromatic light treatment. However, the cell growth patterns were not affected by any light treatment. In the darkness, the anthocyanin synthesis was very low but remarkably increased by blue light or red light irradiation. However, the increase of anthocyanin accumulation by blue or red light was suppressed by far-red light in the suspension cells of grape. This suppression by far-red light on the anthocyanin synthesis also observed on the cells treated red or far-red light alternatively. These results implied that phytochrome regulation system may be involved in the anthocyanin biosynthesis of the suspension grape cells. By RNA expression analysis, chalcone synthase (CHS) gene was expressed highly by blue and red light but low by far-red light. The synergistic increase of CHS gene expression was also observed at the treatment of blue light followed by red for 24h. This result may explain the increase of anthocyanin accumulation in B/R treatment. Although the expression of phytochrome gene (PHYA or PHYB) was not highly increased by all light treatment (blue, red, and far-red light) the expression of both PHYA gene and PHYB gene was increased a little in cells treated red or far-red light. In grape suspension cells, the red light enhanced the anthocyanin synthesis, whereas the far-red light was suppressed. Although it was not confirmed whether or not phytochrome gene is activated in anthocyanin accumulating grape cells, we believed that anthocyanin biosynthesis in grape cells may be regulated under phytochrome signal transduction system.
Cultivation of microalgae using wastewater exhibits several advantages such as nutrient removal and the production of high valuable products such as lipid and pigments. With this study, two types of wastewater from instant noodle factory; mixed liquor suspended solids (MLSS) and effluents after sedimentation tank were investigated for green microalga Scenedesmus sp. cultivation under laboratory condition. Optimal wastewater dilution percentage was evaluated in 24 wells microplate. MLSS and effluent without dilution showed the highest specific growth rate (${\mu}$) of $1.63{\pm}0.11day^{-1}$ and $1.57{\pm}0.16day^{-1}$, respectively, in which they were significantly (p < 0.05) higher than Scenedesmus sp. grown in BG11 medium ($1.08{\pm}0.14day^{-1}$). Ten days experiment was also conducted using 2000 ml Duran bottle as culture vessel under continuous light at approximately 5000 lux intensity and continuous aeration. It was found that maximum biomass density of microalgae cultivated in MLSS and effluent were $344.16{\pm}105.60mg/L$ and $512.89{\pm}86.93mg/L$ respectively and there was no significant (p < 0.05) difference on growth to control (BG11 medium). Moreover, cultivation microalgae in wastewater could reduce COD in wastewater by 39.89%-73.37%. Therefore, cultivation of Scenedesmus sp. in wastewater from instant noodle factory can yield microalgae biomass production and wastewater reclamation using photobioreactor simultaneously.

Titania photocatalytic oxidation reactors were studied to investigate degradation efficiencies of hydrocarbons. In general, it is well known phenomena that thin layered titania oxidizes most of hydrocarbons to carbon dioxide and water under UV light. In this study, degradation efficiencies were measured due to changes in reactor structures, UV sources, the number of titania coatings, and various hydrocarbon chemicals. It was proven that gas degradation efficiencies are related to such factors as UV transmittance of coating substance, collision area of surface, and gas flow rate. For packing type annular reactor, about 98% degradation efficiency was achieved for achieved for propylene of 500 ppm level at a flow rate of 100 ml/min. Several gases were also tested for double-coated titania thin film under the condition of continuous flow of 100 ml/min and 365 nm UV source. It was shown that degradation efficiencies were decreasing in the order: $C_3$$H_{6}$, n-C$_4$$H_{10}$, $C_2$$H_4$, $C_2$$H_2$, $C_{6}$$H_{6}$ and $C_2$$H_{6}$./. 6/./.

Chlorococcum littorale has been grown in high $CO_2$ concentrations to utilize $CO_2$ gas in the polluted air. The effect of incident light intensity on the specific growth rate is expressed by a photoinhibition model, showing half- saturation constant, $K_0\;as\;8\;(W/m^2)$ and inhibition constant, Ki as 35 $(W/m^2)$. The maximum specific growth rate was also estimated as 0.095 (1/day) under this condition. This strain maintained the optimum growth rate in 20% of $CO_2$ gas but 50% of input $CO_2$ gas is the maximum concentration considering the economical efficiency. The maximum Specific $CO_2$ consumption rate, $qCO_2$ was measured as 17.48 (mg $CO_2/g$ dry wt./day) in batch cultivation, 11.2 (mg $CO_2/g$ dry wt./day) in fed-batch cultivation and 10.87 (mg $CO_2/g$ dry wt./day) at 0.065 (1/day) of dilution rate in continuous cultivation. The chemical composition of the biomass obtained from this process showed 32.5% of protein, 27.5% of lipid, 16.5% of carbohydrate and ash 11.7%.

This study is to investigate the conditions closely related to the establishment of vegetation in the riparian zone: the soil condition, an important factor along with climate and light. Especially, the soil structure of the microtopographical formations in the specific area known as the riparian microtopographical zone investigated. In addition, the effect of the riparian microtopographical features on the ground water level, soil moisture content, and vegetation was studied. The results of this study are as follows; 1) At all sample sites, below the sand layer, a gravel layer is always present. This is the result of past floods. 2) Although Salix koreensis experiences frequent disturbances such as increase in river level and floods, this vegetation establishes itself in the most secure are in the microtopographical zone. 3) The growth of Phragmites japonica is closely related to the underground water level. 4) It is clear that Miscanthus sacchariflorus grows concentrated in dry areas. 5) The soil accumulation conditions differ according to the soil moisture content of each microtopgraphical feature. Accordingly, the moisture content of the soil is clearly different within the microtopographical zone. The continuous and long-term investigation and research on the relation of riparian reproduction and the relevance with location surrounding factors are necessary in the future.

Phytofluene was subjected to ozonolysis in ice-cold dichloromethane. The ozonolysis products were fractionated with a silica column and the carbonyl fraction was analyzed by ODS-HPLC with a photodiode array detector. Phytofluene was solubilized in 5% tween 40, and then oxidized by incubating under dim yellow light at 37$^{\circ}C$, 24 hr with continuous shaking. Carbonyl compound and acidic compound were produced. In comparison with autoxidation and ozonolysis, each compound showed the same retention time and UV-vis spectra were identical to the reference cleavage products prepared by ozeonolysis of phytofluene. Absorption spectrum of acidic compound was similar to that of standard 4,5-didehydrogeranyl geranyl acid which is known to possess biological activity. Thus, eccentric cleavage of phytofluene was confirmed to occur in vitro under oxidation condition.
