This article explores the ways Charles Dickens's roles as novelist and journal editor overlapped and influenced one another in the serial publication of A Tale of Two Cities (1859) and complicates recent historicist readings, which situate the novel in relation to the Indian Mutiny (1857-59), by calling attention to a double imperial logic used to construct British subjectivity not only against forms of Eastern Otherness but, moreover, against forms of Southern Otherness associated with the European South, especially Italy. Analyzing Dickens's historical representation of the French Revolution in relation to its contemporary international political context, this essay examines how the novel's serial publication draws upon political discourse from contemporary articles on the Second Italian War of Independence (1859-61) appearing concurrently in Dickens's journal, All the Year Round. Orientalism circulates simultaneously in the novel as a distant and exotic as well as a provincial and parochial representation of racial and cultural Otherness.

Drawing from journal articles, community nutrition textbooks, government documents, national conference reports, the author's own work in community programming, and discussions with practicing Community Nutritionists, this article illuminates the scope and character of community nutrition in the United States. It traces the roots of community nutrition in home economics, nutrition, education, communication, social and behavioral sciences, and describes the evolution of theory. And finally it suggests issues to be addressed by community nutrition researchers and practitioners through collaborations that integrate perspectives within community nutrition and strategically cross disciplinary boundaries. These include： 1) theory development and application in research and practice within philosophically consistent perspectives； 2) methodological development (qualitative and quantitative) drawing from the social and behavioral sciences that apply to community nutrition； 3) taking a long view of community nutrition and recognizing that change requires integrated efforts over long periods of time； 4) engaging community stakeholders in research as well as program planning and 5) engaging with community nutritionists from other countries for cross-cultural research and conceptualization. This journal and the Korean Society for Community Nutrition, as the only journal and society expressly devoted to community nutrition, would be the best context for such collaborations.

The significant historical events and developments in the area of approach for sensory integration in Korean Society of Sensory Integration Therapists(KSSIT) are reviewed to stimulate future planning and clinical application in professional and health promotion. The paper reviewed the purposes of establishment, the role of members, progress of regular meetings and education for members and seminars in KSSIT. This review is placed within the context of the progressive period of KSSIT history, 1997-2003. Historical data are used as primary sources as records of events in KSSIT's homepage, official transcripts, professional articles, and secondary sources such as news letters for occupational therapists and oral information from first members. This review examined current actions and thinking, and suggests further actions and thinking for progressive professional education programs, research, clinical applications and public relations in sensory integration approach in KSSIT.

There is great confusion over what constitutes public diplomacy (PD), who its actors are, and the relevance of non-state actors. In the Korean context, in addition to the general fuzziness of the concept, linguistic peculiarities of the terms gonggong and gongjung both of which refer to public, waegyo, which is interchangeably used for international affairs, foreign policy and diplomacy, and juche which is simultaneously used for actor and agent, add more layers of confusion. While the term PD in Korea is based almost entirely on Western conceptualization, these linguistic peculiarities prevent fruitful conversations among scholars and practitioners on PD. Against this background, this research note explores and addresses conceptual ambiguities that pertains to PD and the policy discourse on the topic, particularly on non-state PD in Korea. The paper draws on Korean government's PD-related policy documents and Diplomatic White Papers and all relevant academic articles found in Korean-language journals registered in the Korean Citation Index (KCI), which are analysed to gain an understanding of the PD-related policy discourse in Korea.

The aim of this essay is to discuss the relationship between Korean literature and Korean intellectual scenes. Since its first introduction to the local context, literature as a genre has served as a field in which colonial and post-colonial intellectuals have attempted to win the accreditation of Western enlightenment. Literature has been regarded as a crucial instrument of liberal arts and education in Korea. Literature has functioned as a social movement in Korea since its inception. During the colonial period, radical intellectuals and literary writers published essays and articles in literary journals. This status as a social movement is still a distinctive characteristic of Korean literature. From the outset, Korean literature has functioned as an enlightenment project for cultural development. As such, Korean literature retains a political meaning of "literariness," which reshuffles the hierarchy of the sensible and creates novelty against given aesthetic regimes. As a result, in the process these regimes are thereby de-purified of their status as purely aesthetic movements; their perspectives thereby come into contact with other discourses and practices outside the art world. This essay argues that as a genre, Korean literature always functions as "world literature" in Korean intellectual scenes.

Interior material covering as the final process of house-building, critically influences not only aesthetic character but also air quality of indoor space. Wall covering today, however, caused a serious social problem because of chemicals contained in the industrial wallpaper and artificial glue. In this context, Korean traditional wall covering of Han-ji can be an alternative model due to it's ecological character. Recently 'Hanok' attracts public attention, since society and people become to appreciate the unique beauty and value of our traditional culture. The values include natural beauty, emotional character, and environment-friendliness. Recognizing this, this paper intended to scrutinize the operating process of Han-ji as an interior finish material. Historical research method was employed, tracing the related articles in old literature and interviewing with the witness of the experienced expert. Thereby, healthier and unique aesthetic indoor environment can be expected to be sustainable along with the rich cultural life of ancestors.

Purpose: This study examined the definitions, diagnostic criteria, and measurements of sarcopenic obesity and identified effective exercise interventions that improve cardiometabolic outcomes in middle-aged and older adults, in whom the prevalence of sarcopenic obesity is increasing. Methods: This comprehensive review followed the principles of literature search, data extraction, and review, as described in the PRISMA 2009 guidelines. Results: The 11 articles included in this study presented different concepts of sarcopenic obesity. Exercise interventions for sarcopenic obesity varied in their effects. Resistance exercise improved muscle mass and physical function, while aerobic exercise primarily impacted obesity and cardiometabolic indicators. Combined exercise had mixed results across indicators. Conclusion: This study addressed a pressing public health concern in the context of an aging population, acknowledged the unique challenges of sarcopenic obesity, and attempted to clarify definitions and assessment methods, while identifying effective exercise interventions to reduce cardiometabolic risk. Sarcopenic obesity is a multifaceted condition with varying definitions and diagnostic criteria. Its association with cardiometabolic risk underscores the need for comprehensive assessments considering both muscle and obesity indicators. While exercise interventions hold promise for managing sarcopenic obesity, further research is required to establish effective strategies.

This meta-analysis systematically reviewed studies on mirror therapy focused on arm and hand function in stroke patients, aiming to comprehensively assess the efficacy of mirror therapy interventions and furnish empirical support for its potential application and future development in the context of stroke rehabilitation. A rigorous search for articles published in international journals up to the year 2022 was conducted. Various assessment tools were employed to calculate effect sizes, evaluating the impact of mirror therapy on arm and hand function in stroke patients. Utilizing a random-effects model, mean effect sizes were determined, yielding a total effect size of 0.545. The effect sizes for the Brunnstrom Recovery Stage (BRS), Box and Block Test (BBT), Modified Barthel Index (MBI), Fugl-Meyer Assessment (FMA), and grip strength test were 0.957, 0.596, 0.490, 0.488, and 0.417, respectively. In summary, we suggest that mirror therapy engenders positive changes in functional recovery among stroke patients, establishing a foundation for its tailored clinical application based on individual subject characteristics.

The controversy over Artificial Intelligence (AI) chatbot "Iruda," which suspended its service 20 days after its launch, can be seen as the first case to inform the public of AI ethics issues. Based on this context, this study examines the controversy and social semantic formation of "Iruda" service cases using news topic modeling techniques. 963-news articles were used for the analysis, and the event's duration was analyzed based on major events, such as service start, controversy, and suspension, to understand the progress. From the analyses results, we obtain major keywords and a total of 16 topics (5, 4, 7) from the period. Finally, the implications for the development and utilization of AI services obtained through this controversy were discussed based on the analysis results.
