  • This study investigates the depiction of new religions in the public sphere, with a specific focus on their representation within the national curriculum in Korea. To pinpoint particular phenomena, an analysis of the national curriculum revisions and textbooks related to religions centered around Daesoon Jinrihoe (大巡眞理會) was conducted. Through this examination, this study introduces Korean new religions as a novel topic for religious education research in secondary schools. Simultaneously, it assesses whether the educational objectives align with the intended goal of providing an objective liberal arts education. The recent direction in revising religious education and related curriculum aims to avoid promoting adherence to a specific religion, emphasizing instead the enhancement of objective knowledge about diverse religions and civic literacy. However, this shift has not substantially influenced the portrayal of Korean new religions. The earliest descriptions of Daesoon Jinrihoe found in textbooks published during the sixth national curriculum merely mention it as a sect of Jeungsan-religions (甑山敎), with variations in content and table across publishers. Additionally, in textbooks such as Religious Studies published by municipal ministries of education, Daesoon Jinrihoe is only described as a contemporary new religion involved in social activities. These instances highlight the inconsistency in the changing narratives regarding new religions in the educational sector. Improvements in representing new religions are necessary to enhance the religious literacy of Korean society beyond a narrow focus on Daesoon Jinrihoe's propagation. Lastly, this research suggests an integrated analysis of the description of Daesoon Jinrihoe in the national curriculum, including adjacent subjects and public communication, such as research and the dissemination of reference materials for the publication of future textbooks.

  • In the era of digital transformation, discussions about digital curation have become increasingly active not only in academia but also in various fields. The primary purpose of this study is to analyze the conceptual changes in digital curation over time, particularly by examining the definition statements related to digital curation as described in academic literature. To achieve this, academic research papers from 2009, when the term "digital curation" was first mentioned, to 2023 were collected, and definition statements that explained relevant concepts were extracted. Basic statistical analyses were conducted. Using DMR topic modeling and word networks, the relationships among keywords and the changes in their importance over time were examined, and a conceptual map of digital curation was made focusing on the main topics. The results revealed that the concept of digital curation is primarily centered around the themes of "data preservation," "traditional curator roles," and "product recommendation curation." Depending on the researchers' intentions for utilizing digital curation, the concept was expanded to include topics such as "content distribution and classification," "information usage," and "curation models." This study is significant in that it analyzed the concept of digital curation through definition statements reflecting the perspectives of researchers. Additionally, the study holds value in explicitly identifying changes in the concepts that researchers emphasize over time through the trends in topic prevalence.

  • This study aims to explore educational methods to help students and citizens, who are exposed to numerous manufactured risks, better understand the nature of science and technology. It also seeks to develop their ability to identify, analyze, and evaluate the risks associated with science and technology, ultimately enabling them to live safer lives in society. To achieve this, through an extensive literature review, we explored the definition of risk, the necessity of risk education, and the relationship between SSI (Socioscientific Issues) education and risk education. Based on the results, we proposed the SSI-CURE (Socioscientific Issues Centered on the Understanding of Risk and its Evaluation) model, which can systematically educate about risks in the context of SSI. The SSI-CURE model proceeds through the following four steps: 1) Confrontation of SSI, 2) Understanding the Nature of Science and Technology with SSI, 3) Risk Assessment in SSI, and 4) Enactment of Countermeasures for SSI. These steps represent the key elements for education on risks in the context of SSI: Conceptual understanding of risks (risk knowledge), competencies necessary for discussing or addressing risk situations (risk competency), scientific content knowledge needed to understand risks (knowledge in science), and knowledge required to understand the causes of risks and their impacts (knowledge about science). We expect that the SSI-CURE model can be used not only as a guide for instruction but also as a representative framework for developing programs to educate about risks in the SSI context.

  • In the wake of the disaster, Joseon implemented soliciting suggestions(求言) to listen to opinions from bureaucrats and the nobility. Through the reign of King Seongjong, the real function of soliciting suggestions as a public opinion has been strengthened. The establishment of the power structure centered on the cheong'yo-jik posts(淸要職) has stimulated a public opinion at all times and increased the function of the eungji-sangso(應旨上疏) as a public opinion. Soliciting suggestions were used as another press opportunity for Cheong'yo-jik posts. It also raised sensitive issues that are usually difficult to mention through eungji-sangso. At the same time, the principle of "not punishing the content of the eungji-sangso by taking issue with it" was also continuously emphasized. As sensitive issues were expressed through the eungji-sangso, the political situation created a stir. Meanwhile, it was burdensome for the monarch to expand the function of the eungji-sangso. In response, King Yeonsan and King Jungjong responded passively to the operation of the eungji-sangso system and punished those who raised the eungji-sangso. Still, the operation of the old system has become a meaningful opportunity to provide another press opportunity. Still, the operation of the soliciting suggestions system has meaning as another mechanism for press activities. In the long run, it has become an opportunity for the nobility without an official position to express their opinions on pending state affairs. And this helped expand the media presence.

  • Recent Chinese animations emphasize the harmony between content and form, as well as the fusion of reality, emotion, and aesthetic ideals, through character designs that blend traditional cultural elements with modern aesthetic sensibilities. We have observed that this fusion has significantly contributed to the development of the Chinese animation industry. In particular, "Nezha: Birth of the Demon Child" stands out as an important example, where traditional character images are reinterpreted in a modern way, showcasing a unique artistic direction. In this study, we have conducted an in-depth analysis of the major characters in "Nezha: Birth of the Demon Child", focusing on their form, acting, and movement elements based on the theoretical foundation of traditional Chinese aesthetics. We explored how traditional Chinese costumes, totems, and painting styles were utilized in the design of the characters' forms, and discovered that these elements imparted a distinctive artistic quality. Furthermore, we found that the acting and movement elements were influenced by Chinese cultural practices, traditional theater, and martial arts, enriching the characters' motions and expressions. Through this research, we aim to highlight how Chinese animation integrates tradition and modernity, creating new artistic value, and establishing a unique competitive edge in the global animation market.

  • The purpose of this paper is to examine the aspects and contents of the Nine Chinese Classics, especially those cited in the writings of women during the Chosun Dynasty. Considering that the foundation of the studies and political ideology in Chosun Dynasty is based on the Confucian scriptures and annotations, it is very important to look at how the Nine Chinese Classics were quoted and mentioned in the writings of Chosun women and to examine what their implications are. The main content of this paper is to take note of Queen Sohye's Naehoon to examine in what context the Nine Chinese Classics are quoted and read. Taking into consideration the historical context in which women's reading and knowledge activities were not welcome and the only books women had access to were women's discipline books, women's discipline books were not only just the text for disciplining women but also a mechanism for women to access Confucian scriptures. Through these discussions, the knowledge of traditional women can be re-examined and women can be established as the subject of recognition. By doing so, an opportunity is provided to expand the contents of Confucianism in Chosun Dynasty, which were centered on knowledge of male Confucian scholars until present. It may also address issues such as Chosun women's knowledge experience and activities of the Nine Chinese Classics, as well as the political desire of women inherent in them.
