  • In order to process video data effectively, it is required that the content information of video data is loaded in database and semantic-based retrieval method can be available for various query of users. In this paper, we propose semantic-based video retrieval system which support semantic retrieval of various users by feature-based retrieval and annotation-based retrieval of massive video data. By user's fundamental query and selection of image for key frame that extracted from query, the agent gives the detail shape for annotation of extracted key frame. Also, key frame selected by user become query image and searches the most similar key frame through feature based retrieval method that propose. From experiment, the designed and implemented system showed high precision ratio in performance assessment more than 90 percents.

  • We propose an efficient algorithm for an interactive content-based image retrieval using relevance feedback. In the proposed algorithm, a new query feature vector first is yielded from the average feature vector of the relevant images that is fed back from the result images of the previous retrieval. Each component weight of a feature vector is computed from an inverse of standard deviation for each component of the relevant images. The updated feature vector of the query and the component weights are used in the iterative retrieval process. In addition, the irrelevant images are excluded from object images in the next iteration to obtain additional performance improvement. In order to evaluate the retrieval performance of the proposed method, we experiment for three image databases, that is, Corel, Vistex, and Ultra databases. We have chosen wavelet moments, BDIP and BVLC, and MFS as features representing the visual content of an image. The experimental results show that the proposed method yields large precision improvement.

  • Video information retrieval has become a very important issue because of the explosive increase in video data from Web content development. Meanwhile, content-based video analysis using visual features has been the main source for video information retrieval and browsing. Content in video can be represented with content-based analysis techniques, which can extract various features from audio-visual data such as frames, shots, colors, texture, or shape. Moreover, similarity between videos can be measured through content-based analysis. However, a movie that is one of typical types of video data is organized by story as well as audio-visual data. This causes a semantic gap between significant information recognized by people and information resulting from content-based analysis, when content-based video analysis using only audio-visual data of low level is applied to information retrieval of movie. The reason for this semantic gap is that the story line for a movie is high level information, with relationships in the content that changes as the movie progresses. Information retrieval related to the story line of a movie cannot be executed by only content-based analysis techniques. A formal model is needed, which can determine relationships among movie contents, or track meaning changes, in order to accurately retrieve the story information. Recently, story-based video analysis techniques have emerged using a social network concept for story information retrieval. These approaches represent a story by using the relationships between characters in a movie, but these approaches have problems. First, they do not express dynamic changes in relationships between characters according to story development. Second, they miss profound information, such as emotions indicating the identities and psychological states of the characters. Emotion is essential to understanding a character's motivation, conflict, and resolution. Third, they do not take account of events and background that contribute to the story. As a result, this paper reviews the importance and weaknesses of previous video analysis methods ranging from content-based approaches to story analysis based on social network. Also, we suggest necessary elements, such as character, background, and events, based on narrative structures introduced in the literature. We extract characters' emotional words from the script of the movie Pretty Woman by using the hierarchical attribute of WordNet, which is an extensive English thesaurus. WordNet offers relationships between words (e.g., synonyms, hypernyms, hyponyms, antonyms). We present a method to visualize the emotional pattern of a character over time. Second, a character's inner nature must be predetermined in order to model a character arc that can depict the character's growth and development. To this end, we analyze the amount of the character's dialogue in the script and track the character's inner nature using social network concepts, such as in-degree (incoming links) and out-degree (outgoing links). Additionally, we propose a method that can track a character's inner nature by tracing indices such as degree, in-degree, and out-degree of the character network in a movie through its progression. Finally, the spatial background where characters meet and where events take place is an important element in the story. We take advantage of the movie script to extracting significant spatial background and suggest a scene map describing spatial arrangements and distances in the movie. Important places where main characters first meet or where they stay during long periods of time can be extracted through this scene map. In view of the aforementioned three elements (character, event, background), we extract a variety of information related to the story and evaluate the performance of the proposed method. We can track story information extracted over time and detect a change in the character's emotion or inner nature, spatial movement, and conflicts and resolutions in the story.

  • The development of computer and internet has introduced various types of media - such as, image, audio, video, and voice - to the traditional text-based information. However, most of the information retrieval systems are based only on text, which results in the absence of ability to use available information. By utilizing the available media, one can improve the performance of search system, which is commonly called content-based retrieval and content-based image retrieval system specifically tries to incorporate the analysis of images into search systems. In this paper, a content-based image retrieval system using HSI color space, ART2 algorithm, and SOM algorithm is introduced. First, images are analyzed in the HSI color space to generate several sets of features describing the images and an SOM algorithm is used to provide candidates of training features to a user. The features that are selected by a user are fed to the training part of a search system, which uses an ART2 algorithm. The proposed system can handle the case in which an image belongs to several groups and showed better performance than other systems.

  • In this paper, we constructed the noise robust content-based music retrieval system in mobile environment. The performance of the proposed system was verified with ZCPA feature which is blown to have noise robust characteristic in speech recognition application. In addition, new indexing and fast retrieval method are proposed to improve retrieval speed about 99% compare to exhaustive retrieval for large music DB. From the computer simulation results in noise environment of 15dB - 0dB SNR, we confirm the superior performance of the proposed system about 5% - 30% compared to MFCC and FBE(filter bank energy) feature.

  • The emotional information processing is to simulate and recognize human sensibility, sensuality or emotion, to realize natural and harmonious human-machine interface. This paper proposes an emotion-based image retrieval method. In this method, user can choose a linguistic query among some emotional adjectives. Then the system shows some corresponding representative images that are pre-evaluated by experts. Again the user can select a representative one among the representative images to initiate traditional content-based image retrieval (CBIR). By this proposed method any CBIR can be easily expanded as emotion-based image retrieval. In CBIR of our system, we use several color and texture visual descriptors recommended by MPEG-7. We also propose a fuzzy similarity measure based on Choquet integral in the CBIR system. For the communication between system and user, a relevance feedback mechanism is used to represent human subjectivity in image retrieval. This can improve the performance of image retrieval, and also satisfy the user's individual preference.

  • The ability of the searcher to express their information problem to an information retrieval system is fundamental to the retrieval process. Query by visual example is the principal query paradigm for expressing queries in a content-based image retrieval environment yet there is little empirical evidence to support its efficacy in facilitating query formulation. The aim of this research was to investigate the usability of the query by colour method in supporting a range of information problems in order to contribute to the gap in knowledge regarding the relationship between searchers' information problems and the query methods required to support efficient and effective visual query formulation. The results strongly suggest that the query method does not support visual query formulation and that there is a significant mismatch between the searchers information problems and the expressive power of the retrieval paradigm.

  • As development of digital technology, many kinds of multimedia data are used variously and requirements for effective use by user are increasing. In order to transfer information fast and precisely what user wants, effective retrieval method is required. As existing multimedia data are impossible to apply the MPEG-1, MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 technologies which are aimed at compression, store and transmission. So MPEG-7 is introduced as a new technology for effective management and retrieval of multimedia data. In this paper, we extract content-based features using color descriptor among the MPEG-7 standardization visual descriptor, and reduce feature data applying PCA(Principal Components Analysis) technique. We model the cerebral cortex and hippocampal neural network in engineering domain, and team content-based feature vectors fast and apply the hippocampal neural network algorithm to compose of optimized feature. And then we present fast and precise retrieval effect when indexing and retrieving.

  • It will be possible to prevent the infringement of the trademarks and the insueing disputes regarding the originality of the trademarks by using an efficient content-based trademark image retrieval system. In this paper, we describe a content-based image retrieval system using the Self Organizing Map(SOM) algorithm. The SOM algorithm utilizes the visual features, which were derived from the gray histogram representation of the images. In addition, we made the objective effectiveness evaluation possible by coming up with a quantitative measure to gauge the effectiveness of the content-based image retrieval system.
