  • The study was carried out to determine the changes of growth characteristics, anthocyanidin, and brown rice yield grown at coast and inland areas apart from the east coastline of Gyeongsangbuk-do province. Number of spikelets per panicle was much more increased in inland area. Regional difference in number of spikelets per panicle was observed in Jeongjinju cultivar. Among these red rice cultivars, the highest brown rice yield was Jeongjinju rice cultivar having 702 kg in inland area and 692 ㎏ in coast area, respectively. Anthocyanidin content ranged 524 to $610{\mu}g/g$ dry weight basis. Cyanidin content was 11.4 to 14.0 times higher than that of delphinidin under coast and inland area. Anthocyanidin content was higher in rice cultivar grown at coast area. Highest head brown rice rate was only observed in Geonganghongmi to 95.2 at coast area and 95.4 inland area. In considering brown rice yield and pigment content, Hongjinju rice cultivar was recommended in optimal pigment rice cultivar in eastern coast of Gyeongsangbuk-do Province.

  • The optimal fermentation conditions for producing fermented black soybeans rich in sulfur-containing amino acids were investigated. Response surface methodology monitored fermentation conditions. A central composite design examined the effect of independent variables: enzyme concentration (X1) and fermentation time (X2) on yield and methionine content. Both factors significantly influenced these dependent variables. Enzyme concentration more profoundly affected amino nitrogen content than fermentation time. β-Glucan content and cystine level were primarily affected by fermentation time. We elicited each variable's regression formula and identified optimal fermentation conditions for functional compounds. The predicted optimum conditions were an enzyme concentration of 0.28-0.32% and a fermentation time of 58.0-62.0 min. Under these optimal conditions, each black soybean variety's sulfur amino acid content ranged from 818.62 to 922.62 mg/100 g, demonstrating significant variety differences.

  • We investigated the effect of paclobutrazol (PB) and prohexadione-Ca (PC) on seed yield, and the content of oils and endogenous gibberellin in flax grown in a greenhouse. Flax seedlings were cultivated in a greenhouse with average ambient temperature ranging from $35^{\circ}C$ to $38^{\circ}C$ during the growing period, and then PB and PC were applied on the leaves. The height of flax plants was reduced significantly by the foliar application of PB and PC. The highest ripening seed rate recorded was 94.5% with 2000 ppm PC; a 10.3% increase compared with that of the control. Both PB and PC markedly increased the fructification of flax seed. The application of two plant growth retardants resulted in higher seed production in flax seedlings grown in open field than in those grown in a greenhouse. The highest oil content was observed in flax treated with PC, whereas, the lowest oil content was observed in flax treated with PB. The oil content and ratio of unsaturated fatty acids were higher in flax seedlings grown in greenhouse than in those grown in open field. The level of two endogenous bioactive gibberellins ($GA_1$ and $GA_4$) in flax seeds decreased with the application of PB and PC. The flax plants treated with PB and PC presented higher secoisolariciresinol diglucoside content than that of the control. The optimal concentration of PC was found to be 2000 ppm. In conclusion, the foliar application of 2000 ppm PC might be useful in increasing oil content and seed production in flax plants.

  • Semantic role labeling (SRL) is a task in natural-language processing with the aim of detecting predicates in the text, choosing their correct senses, identifying their associated arguments, and predicting the semantic roles of the arguments. Developing a high-performance SRL system for a domain requires manually annotated training data of large size in the same domain. However, such SRL training data of sufficient size is available only for a few domains. Constructing SRL training data for a new domain is very expensive. Therefore, domain adaptation in SRL can be regarded as an important problem. In this paper, we show that domain adaptation for SRL systems can achieve state-of-the-art performance when based on structural learning and exploiting a prior model approach. We provide experimental results with three different target domains showing that our method is effective even if training data of small size is available for the target domains. According to experimentations, our proposed method outperforms those of other research works by about 2% to 5% in F-score.

  • This study was performed to investigate the physicochemical properties of raw and roasted oats for the production of processed goods. Changes in particle size, pH, moisture content, Hunter b value, polyphenols, proteins, flavonoids, lipid rancidity, ${\beta}-glucan$ content and sensory evaluation were compared between raw and roasted hulled oats (HO) and de-hulled oats (DO) after heating treatment at 0, 80, 120, 160 and $200^{\circ}C$. HO was more finely crushed than DO. The Hunter b value of HO was lower than that of DO, which increased sharply at $200^{\circ}C$. The pH range was from 6.2 to 6.6, with an average value of 6.4. In contrast to the protein contents of the two oat types, polyphenol content showed gradual decrease as roasting temperature increased. A comparison of the flavonoid content of HO with DO, indicated difference in the increase of flavonoids with increasing temperature. The protein content of HO was observed to be higher than that of DO. Furthermore, the protein level was slightly increased with increasing temperature. Malonidialdehyde (MDA) content was statistically identical from $0^{\circ}C$ to $160^{\circ}C$, but then increased sharply at $200^{\circ}C$. As expected, the ${\beta}-glucan$ content of HO was higher than that of DO. The ${\beta}-glucan$ content of HO was decreased at $80^{\circ}C$, but increased from $120^{\circ}C$ to $200^{\circ}C$. In contrast, the ${\beta}-glucan$ of DO increased constantly compared to the control. Variations in sensory characteristics such as color, taste, smell and overall preference were observed. There were statistically significant difference among the sensory characteristics of the two oat types heated at $0^{\circ}C$ and $120^{\circ}C$ and at $160^{\circ}C$ and $200^{\circ}C$ (p<0.05). Our collective results, including those for particle size, MDA, protein, ${\beta}-glucan$ content and sensory evaluation, indicated that HO would be more useful in the development of processed goods than DO, and that an optimum temperature for roasting oats is approximately $160^{\circ}C$ for 15 min. Moreover, our results indicate that suitable roasting temperatures and cultivars are necessary to produce high-quality processed oat goods.

  • The effects of screw speeds and moisture contents on the physical properties of texturized extrudate from isolated soy protein were examined by using a single-screw extruder. The screw speeds and moisture contents tested were in the range of 122-334 rpm and 20-35%, respectively, and die temperature were $90-145^{\circ}C$. The texturization characteristics such as nitrogen solubility index, integrity index, chewiness, density, rehydration ratio, and lightness after rehydration were appeared to be influenced by screw speed and moisture content. As the screw speed increased and moisture content decreased, die temperature, nitrogen solubility index, integrity index, lightness before and after rehydration were increased, while chewiness, density, water content of final extrudate wee decreased. The rehydration rate was changed drastically at the feed moisture content of 30% in particular. As the moisture content decreased, the air cell size became large and its number was increased. The effects of interaction between screw speed and moisture content of raw materials on the extrudate characteristics were tested by the analysis of variance.
