Economic Analysis of Foldable Containers on the Jeju-Mokpo Container Route

  • Shipping containers promote rapid development of the transport industry, and generate economic and social value. However, problems often occur due to imbalance in dynamics between exports and imports, container relocation, traffic congestion, and general shipping network designs. So, efficient and cost-effective cargo management has become crucial for the Jeju Island - Mokpo container route (JMCR) in South Korea. Dozens of recent studies reveal that collapsible or foldable containers, may become an innovative solution to problematic issues within the shipping industry. The major purpose of this study is to discuss conditions required for successful commercial application of foldable containers, based on a cost-benefit analysis precisely for the JMCR. Findings reveal usage of foldable containers can be cost-effective, if containers make a "FULL<->EMPTY" route. To the contrary, a "FULL<->FULL" route can drastically increase expenditure. However, economic analysis of actual figures for 2010-2015 indicate that benefits for Mokpo - Jeju direction are significant to cover losses on the Jeju - Mokpo line. Seasonal patterns and mixing percentages of foldable and standard containers on the route, may also produce cost-effective solutions. Sensitivity analysis reveals that benefits from using foldable containers, depend mostly on empty container shares in addition to various extra costs.

내륙 컨테이너 기지의 입지선정에 관한 연구 (On the Site Selection of Inland Container Depot)

  • Today, about 95% of totoal import import and export container cargo in Korea is being transported through the Busan Port. The 59% of these cargos is being handled at BCTOC and the rest is at the existing piers. As the Off-Dock Container Yards(ODCY) within Busna City are located at 33 different places, it causes serious problems in the container cargo transport and inland traffic near Busan district. The container carriers to the inland market or other terminals cause heavy traffics to the Busan Traffic System. Hence, this impacts to the cost of the cargo handling equipment and cargo storage, the usage of labor resources, the control of natural environment etc. To solve those problems, it is required to build Inland Container Depot(ICD) in the Southeastern Economic Area. In this study therefore, we try to calculate the required area of Inland Container Depot(ICD) for Busan Port which deals which deals with the container cargo. We also investigate the sites for ICD being suggested outside of Busan City. We use the Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP) Method to decide the best one. The result shows that the best is the Site B(Dong Myen, Yangsan Kun).

  • 최근 물동량의 증가로 인하여 항만 산업과 내륙 운송산업은 발전을 하였지만 우리나라 내륙운송은 80% 이상을 공로운송이 담당하고 있다, 최근 지구 온난화의 영향으로 인하여 세계적으로 기후 변화에 대한 여러 규제와 협약들이 생겨났으며, 우리나라는 2013년부터 비준하게 되는 포스트 교토의정서에 이산화탄소 의무 감축국으로 포함될 전망이다. 이로서 국내 대륙 운송분야에서의 이산화탄소 배출량에 대한 관심이 높아지고 있다. 이에 따라 본 논문에서는 현재 운송수단별 내륙운송의 이산화탄소 배출량을 산정하고 국내의 컨테이너 기종점 분석을 바탕으로 내륙운송의 이산화탄소 저감 방안을 제시하고자 한다.

  • In light of the growing traffic congestion problem and congestion cost, the container transport by railway has to be increased. The freight transport by railway can have decided advantages over trucks in terms of energy efficiency, emissions and cost for certain freight movements, just as transportation in the metropolitan region can have great advantages over driving truck. But the freight transport by truck should gain significant mobility benefits from a freight railway system. Thus, the DMT(Dual Mode Trailer) transport system which is coupled railway transport advantages with load transport advantages has been developed and used in the european countries. The DMT transport will therefore serve the areas required by transport organizers. This paper describes the various DMT transport systems and its strength and weakness.

  • Sea transport industry is service industry and basic industry that permit efficient division of the human and material resources of industry. Also, owing to geographical situation which korea is having, utilization ratio of sea logistics industry is high than other transport ways. Sea transport industry chieves role that promote economy activity of other industry field as well as offer of transport way. Specially, because unit anger of freight by container is introduced, it was achived reduction of transport unit cost and mechanization of loading and unloading by this result. For efficeint connection of each other transport, contianer had offerd to large ship. Quality of service has much dimensions, and is considered while it is important that understand quality of service of sea transport industry through marketing and research of customer connection field because perceive of quality of serviceis different in shipowner/service viscount or shipper/freight owner. This research presented decision factors of sea transport quality of service which shipper and transport agent recognize under these background.

  • The forecasting of container volume which is the basis of port logistics facilities expansion has a great influence on development of an port. Based on this importance, various previous studies have presented methodology on container volume forecasting. The results of many previous studies pointed out the limitations of future forecasting based on past container volume and emphasized that more various factors should be considered to compensate this. Taking notice of this point, this study forecasted future container volume by using ARIMA model, time series analysis and System Dynamics (SD) method, a dynamic analysis technique and performed the comparative review with the forecast of the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime affairs. Recently with rapid changes in economic and social environment, the non-linear change tendency for forecasting container traffic is presented as a new alternative to the country.

GPS를 이용한 컨테이너 모니터링 시스템에 관한 연구 (A Study on Container Monitoring System Using GPS)

  • GPS를 이용한 컨데이너 모니터링 시스템은 실시간 물류추적 및 관리시스템이라 할 수 있다. GPS는 컨레이너 위치를 정확하고 신속하게 실시간으로 추적할 수 있는 시스템이다. 항만, 공항 등의 시설관리자는 효을적인 화물의 적재, 하역, 보관이 필요하고, 운송업체 또는 화물주는 최적으로 차량을 배차해야 하며, 화물분실, 운송지연 등의 문제를 사전에 예방하거나 대처할 수 있어야 한다. 본 연구에서는 GPS의 측위기법중 실시간 이동 측위 기법을 이용하여 컨테이너의 위치 및 경로를 추적하고, 실시간으로 관측함으로써 상차지에서 하차지까지의 절대위치 및 상대위치를 수치적이고 시각적으로 모니터링하였으며 컨데이너의 이동이나 정지시의 위치 정확도를 분석하였다.

대용량 컨테이너 이송장치 기술개발 전략 연구 (A Study to Develop a Multiple Container Transportation System)

  • 컨테이너 물동량 증대에 따라 항만 내 타부두 간 환적 물동량 수요가 크게 증대되었으나, 기존 YT 방식의 타부두 환적은 이를 효율적으로 뒷받침하지 못하고 있다. 본 논문은 컨테이너항만의 경쟁력 향상을 위한 컨테이너 대용량 이송장치 개발방안을 제시하였다. 시스템 대안의 장단점 분석과 국내 터미널 운영형태를 고려하여 2단적재 다중 편성시스템(DMTS)을 최종 대안으로 선정하였다. DMTS 회전반경은 13.5m로, 국내 기존 항만의 layout에서 즉시 운용 가능할 것으로 판단된다. 특허분석을 통하여 DMTS 핵심기술 항목으로서 현가 조향장치 최적설계, 동력 및 동력전달 장치, 주행제어 및 안전감시장치, 그리고 트레일러 간 연결기 등을 도출하였다. DMTS는 국내 수출입 항만에 적용하는데 문제가 없으며 단위 수송용량이 높아 운영 효율성 개선에 기여할 것으로 판단된다.
