Pregnancy Rate of In Vitro Produced Korean Cattle Embryos according to Transport Time Course

  • This study was to investigate pregnancy rate of IVM/IVF/IVC Korean cattle (registered in government) embryos according to transport time course. For the production of embryos, oocytes recovered from slaughtered excellent grade cow and highly motile frozen-thawed bull semen (purchased from LIMC, KPN#497) was used. In vitro produced embryos were cultured in CR1aa medium for 8 days and some of them were frozen. The rate of average cleavage (>2-cell) was 83.0% (308/371) and blastocyst rate at day 8 was 34.7% (107/308). Among in vitro produced blastocyst embryos at day 8, most healthy embryos were freshly transferred on production day and some frozen embryos were direct transferred on appropriate day. These embryos were produced in a laboratory, embryo transfer (ET) was planned in 10 areas of the remote island (Jeju) from the laboratory by airplane. Thus, we examined the pregnancy rate in recipient cow according to embryo of transport time course before ET. From embryo transferred 44 recipient cows, overall pregnancy was 40.9% (18/44), these 18 cows were all calved [single, 94% (17/18); twin, 6% (1/18)] and total embryo implantation rate was 26% (19/66). Comparing transport time in the base of 6 hr, pregnancy rate in ET group required less 4 hr (60%, 9/15) was significantly higher than that required more 6 hr (26.3%, 5/19). In direct ET of freezing embryos, the pregnancy rate was 40% (4/10). However, it was difficult to find the meaning of temperature, pH and corpus luteum quality of recipients on comparison of pregnancy rate. When the cell death level of embryos according to storage time in thermos (straw container) before ET was measured by TUNEL staining, apoptotic index was increased with storage time-dependent. These results demonstrated that long distance transfer of IVM/IVF/IVC embryos is possible and the time of embryo transport is very important for the pregnancy rate on field trial.

A Study on the Analysis of Container Physical Distribution System -Pusan Port Oriented- (물류시스템 분석에 관한 연구 - 부산항을 중심으로 -)

  • This work aims to : establish a model of the container physical distribution system of Pusan port comprising 4 sub-systems of a navigational system, on-dock cargo handling/transfer/storage system, off-dock CY system and an in-land transport system : examine the system regarding the cargo handling capability of the port and analyse the cost of the physical distribution system. The overall findings are as follows : Firstly in the navigational system, average tonnage of the ships visiting the Busan container terminal was 33,055 GRT in 1990. The distribution of the arrival intervals of the ships' arriving at BCTOC was exponential distribution of $Y=e^{-x/5.52}$ with 95% confidence, whereas that of the ships service time was Erlangian distribution(K=4) with 95% confidence, Ships' arrival and service pattern at the terminal, therefore, was Poisson Input Erlangian Service, and ships' average waiting times was 28.55 hours In this case 8berths were required for the arriving ships to wait less than one hour. Secondly an annual container through put that can be handled by the 9cranes at the terminal was found to be 683,000 TEU in case ships waiting time is one hour and 806,000 TEU in case ships waiting is 2 hours in-port transfer capability was 913,000 TEU when berth occupancy rate(9) was 0.5. This means that there was heavy congestion in the port when considering the fact that a total amount of 1,300,000 TEU was handled in the terminal in 1990. Thirdly when the cost of port congestion was not considered optimum cargo volume to be handled by a ship at a time was 235.7 VAN. When the ships' waiting time was set at 1 hour, optimum annual cargo handling capacity at the terminal was calculated to be 386,070 VAN(609,990 TEU), whereas when the ships' waiting time was set at 2 hours, it was calculated to be 467,738 VAN(739,027 TEU). Fourthly, when the cost of port congestion was considered optimum cargo volume to be handled by a ship at a time was 314.5 VAN. When the ships' waiting time was set at I hour optimum annual cargo handling capacity at the terminal was calculated to be 388.416(613.697 TEU), whereas when the ships' waiting time was set 2 hours, it was calculated to be 462,381 VAN(730,562 TEU).

A Feasibility Study of the K-LandBridge through a Linear Programming Model of Minimum Transport Costs (최소운송비용의 선형계획모형을 통한 K-LandBridge의 타당성 연구)

  • China has recently advocated a national strategy called "One Belt One Road" and transferred to execution to refine it into detailed action plans and has continued to fix the complement. However, the Korean Peninsula, including the North Korea remains could not be included at all in the Chinese development policy and framework in terms of the International Logistics. Currently it is raised between Korea-China rail ferry system again and that is when we need to make effective policy development on international multimodal transport system in Northeast Asia. This paper introduces the K-LB (Korea LandBridge) as its execution plan and conducted a feasibility study on this. K-LB consists of a Korea-Russian train ferry system based in Pohang Yeongil New Port(light-wing) and a Korea-China train ferry system based in Saemangeum New Port(left-wing). These two wings are linked to the existing rail system in Korea. This study is convinced that the K-LB is an effective international logistics system in the current terms and conditions and also demonstrated that it is feasible to introduce th K-LB on the peninsula. More strictly speaking, through a linear programming under objective function that minimize the transport cost quantified prior to demonstrate the feasibility, the available ranges and conditions for the transportation costs that are ensured the effectiveness of the K-LB are presented as results. According to the results, if the transport cost of K-LB is cheaper about 34.5% than that of sea transport such as container transport, the object goods may be transported by K-LB on this route. It means that the K-LB system has a competitive advantage due to more rapid customs clearance as well as omitted loading and unloading procedures over container transportation system. It also noted that the threshold level may not be large. Therefore, K-LB has competitive enough to prove its introduction in the Northeast Asian logistics system.

  • While the crane system operate in port, one of main objective is to transport containers to the goal position as soon as possible. Because this is one of the biggest problem in terms of productivity of port, the container crane is operated by an expert operator until now. However recently an automatic control system with high performance is required to improve the performance of the crane system and to make high productivity. Therefore we developed an optimal controller based on Humoral Immune Algorithm with PID controller. The proposed system has a real time structure and can improve the performance such as anti-sway problem. Some computer simulations are implemented to assess the characteristics of the proposed controller.

  • Thermal performance of a thermosiphon for medium-temperature solar thermal application was investigated. The working fluid was Dowtherm A and the container was made of STS 316L. The thermosiphon had a outer diameter of 12.7 mm and a total length of 2 m, where the evaporator and the condenser had the same length of 0.3 m and the adiabatic section was 1.4 m. Both the evaporator and the condenser were aligned horizontal with an elevation difference of 0.18 m to utilize the gravitational force for the working-fluid return. The optimum fill charge ratio of the working fluid was investigated to obtain the maximum heat transport with the lowest thermal resistance. The maximun input thermal load was 500 W and thermal resistance was $0.60^{\circ}C/W$.

  • The Purpose of carrier tracking and tracing is to achieve more information over shipments via carrying in mobile business .At multimodes, especially consignor wants to be aware of the exact situation and position of goods. As an innovate business model, we present CGPS(Carrier Global Positioning System) scheme usiug LEO(Low Earth Orbital) satellite. The LEO collects the data periodically and sends to the web server, and eventually customer's PC or PDA. This provides shipping company or freight forwarder with more robust information such as door status, container inside condition, etc.

  • A two dimensional shallow-water flow around a cavity driven by a sinusoidally oscillating external flow was studied numerically with an Ekman pumping model. A container model of "T" shape was constructed in the numerical computation for comparison with the experimental observation. The material transport in the external region is in good agreement with the experimentally recorded particle trajectories. It turns out that two large coherent vortices situated in the exterior region of the cavity are responsible for clockwise and counterclockwise drift motions, in large scale, of particles. The Ekman pumping model suggested in this study was found to be satisfactory.isfactory.

Dark Conductivity in Semi-Insulating Crystals of CdTe:Sn

  • We prepared semi-insulating CdTe for radiation detectors by isothermal annealing of single crystals grown by Bridgeman technique in a sealed quartz container filled with Sn vapor. The resistivity of CdTe:Sn samples thus obtained was of order of $10^{10}Ohm{\cdot}cm$ at room temperature with electrons lifetime of $2{\times}10^{-8}$ s, which is appropriate for the applications desired. Analysis of electric transport characteristics depending on temperature, sample thickness and voltage applied revealed the presence of traps with concentration of about $(4-5){\times}10^{12}cm^{-3}$ with the corresponding energy level at 0.8 - 0.9 eV counted from the bottom of conduction band. The conductivity was determined by electron injection from electrodes in space charge limited current mode.

  • Rotating flow of a stratified fluid contained in a circular cylinder with unstable temperature gradient imposed on the side wall of it has been numerically studied. The temperatures at the endwall disks are constant. The top disk of the container is coider than that of the bottob disk, as much as the temperature difference n${\Delta}$T, (0${\leq}$n${\leq}$3). Flows in the vessel are driven by an impulsive rotation of the hot bottom disk with respect to the central axis of the cylinder. Flow details have been acquired. For this flow, the principal balance in the interior core is characterized by a relationship between the radial temperature gradient and the vertical shear in the azimuthal velocity. As the buoyancy effect becomes appreciable, larger portions of the meridional fluid transport are long-circuit from the bottom disk to the interior region via the side wall.

  • To revitalize the trucking market, many studies are being done but it still has a lot of problems such as imbalance between supply and demand, poor profit structure of truck owners, ect. Therefore, it aims to study what kinds of prerequisite are needed to solve these problems through analyzing system structure and mechanism of the market. To achieve it, System Dynamics methodology, appropriate to make a simulation model and analyze dynamics of the system, is utilized. To obtain an empirical research point of view, time series data related on trucking market-provided by The Korea Transport Institute-are used. In addition, interview with a local representative logistics company and a ICD(Inland Container Depot) operation company is performed to find out technical and functional supporting factors to solve the existing problems in the market.
