Heat transfer between substrate and substrate-heater in low vacuum was investigated. The convection related with gas flow and pressure, the heat conduction considering surface roughness and contact pressure, and the heat loss by radiation depending on the surface emissivity were considered. The coefficient of heat conduction $h_c$ in the Fourier's law were determined experimentally from the temperature difference between the substrate and the substrate-heater in the range of substrate-heater temperature $100\;-\;500^{\circ}C$, in the pressures of 300 mTorr - 1 Torr. The temperature difference was then calculated in the reverse way for the purpose of verification, using the heat flow and the experimentally determined coefficients. The verified temperature differences were thus obtained within 0.33 % error.

The final goal of shift alignment design is that the bearing reaction forces or mean pressures are within design boundaries for various service conditions of a ship. However, it is found that calculated bearing load can be substantially variable according to the locations of the effective support points of after sterntube bearing which are determined by simple calculation or assumption suggested by classification societies. A new analysis method for shaft alignment calculation is introduced in order to resolve these problems. Key concept of the new method is featured by adopting both nonlinear elastic and multi-support elements to simulate a bearing support Hertz contact theory is basically applied for nonlinear elastic stiffness calculation instead of the projected area method suggested by most of classification societies. Three loading conditions according to the bearing offset and the hydrodynamic moment and twelve models according to the locations of the effective support points of sterntube bearings are prepared to carry out quantitative verifications for an actual shafting system of 8000 TEU class container vessel. It is found that there is relatively large difference between assumed and calculated effective support points.

Perfluoropolymers represent the ultimate resistance to hostile chemical environments and high service temperature, attributed to the presence of fluorine in the polymer backbone, i.e. to the high bond energy of C-F and C-C bonds of fluorocarbons. Copolymers of Tetrafluoroethylene (TEE) and 2, 2, 4Trifluoro-5Trifluorometoxy- 1, 3Dioxole (TTD), commercially known as HYFLON AD, are amorphous perfluoropolymers with glass transition temperature (Tg)higher than room temperature, showing a thermal decomposition temperature exceeding 40$0^{\circ}C$. These polymer systems are highly soluble in fluorinated solvents, with low solution viscosities. This property allows the preparation of self-supported and composite membranes with desired membrane thickness. Symmetric and asymmetric perfluoropolymer membranes, made with HYFLON AD, have been prepared and evaluated. Porous and not porous symmetric membranes have been obtained by solvent evaporation with various processing conditions. Asymmetric membranes have been prepared by th wet phase inversion method. Measure of contact angle to distilled water have been carried out. Figure 1 compares experimental results with those of other commercial membranes. Contact angles of about 120$^{\circ}$for our amorphous perfluoropolymer membranes demonstrate that they posses a high hydrophobic character. Measure of contact angles to hexandecane have been also carried out to evaluate the organophobic character. Rsults are reported in Figure 2. The observed strong organophobicity leads to excellent fouling resistance and inertness. Porous membranes with pore size between 30 and 80 nanometers have shown no permeation to water at pressures as high as 10 bars. However high permeation to gases, such as O2, N2 and CO2, and no selectivities were observed. Considering the porous structure of the membrane, this behavior was expected. In consideration of the above properties, possible useful uses in th field of gas- liquid separations are envisaged for these membranes. A particularly promising application is in the field of membrane contactors, equipments in which membranes are used to improve mass transfer coefficients in respect to traditional extraction and absorption processes. Gas permeation properties have been evaluated for asymmetric membranes and composite symmetric ones. Experimental permselectivity values, obtained at different pressure differences, to various single gases are reported in Tab. 1, 2 and 3. Experimental data have been compared with literature data obtained with membranes made with different amorphous perfluoropolymer systems, such as copolymers of Perfluoro2, 2dimethyl dioxole (PDD) and Tetrafluorethylene, commercialized by the Du Pont Company with the trade name of Teflon AF. An interesting linear relationship between permeability and the glass transition temperature of the polymer constituting the membrane has been observed. Results are descussed in terms of polymer chain structure, which affects the presence of voids at molecular scale and their size distribution. Molecular Dyanmics studies are in progress in order to support the understanding of these results. A modified Theodoru- Suter method provided by the Amorphous Cell module of InsightII/Discover was used to determine the chain packing. A completely amorphous polymer box of about 3.5 nm was considered. Last but not least the use of amorphous perfluoropolymer membranes appears to be ideal when separation processes have to be performed in hostile environments, i.e. high temperatures and aggressive non-aqueous media, such as chemicals and solvents. In these cases Hyflon AD membranes can exploit the outstanding resistance of perfluoropolymers.
Korea established an inventory of 1,916 sites of inland wetlands during a nationwide investigation from 2000 to 2010. If inland wetlands is included in or near various protected areas designated by the government, it can be selected as a wetland to be managed with priority. This study evaluated the aspect of management of inland wetlands by analyzing the correlation between locations of national protected areas and inland wetlands. As a result, it was shown that a considerable percentage of current inland wetland was located in areas that were designated and managed as protected areas by the government, as they had a high value of natural environment protection (527 sites, 31.61 %). When the range was widened to a radius of 1 km for protected areas, 959 sites were included and 57.53 % of sites were located in or nearby the protected areas. Among them, 46.79 % of sites were distributed up to or within a 1 km radius of waterside areas and rivers; it accounted for 81.33 % of wetlands located in protected areas. Therefore, it was found that locations of current inland wetlands were mostly in contact with rivers. The results of overlay analysis were classified into high, medium and low; the correlation of location with inland wetlands was analyzed through the analysis of separation distance of various protected areas. The number of wetlands located in areas of a 'high' value of protection was 998 (59.87 %); 289 sites (17.34 %) were distributed in areas of a 'low' value of protection. This implies that these wetlands are located in artificial areas and are more exposed to environmental pressures. Thus, these wetlands could be determined as inland wetlands, which we considered for the establishment of measures to prevent damage.

Experimental study on characteristics of direct contact condensation of steam discharged into a sub-cooled water pool has been performed using five different sizes of horizontal nozzle over a wide range of steam mass fluxes and pool temperatures. Steam condensation phenomena have been observed visually and by taking pictures of steam jets using a high speed video camera. Two different steam jet shapes such as ellipsoidal shape and conical shape were typically observed for a stable steam jet, depending on the steam mass flux and pool temperature. The steam jet expansion ratio and the steam jet length as well as the condensation heat transfer coefficients were determined. The effect of steam mass flux, pool temperature, and nozzle diameter on these parameters were also discussed. Empirical correlations for the steam jet lengths and the condensation heat transfer coefficients as a function of steam mass flux and condensation driving potential were established. The axial and radial temperature distributions in steam jet and in surrounding water were measured. The effect of steam mass flux, pool temperature, and nozzle diameter were also discussed. The condensation regime map, which consists of six regimes such as chugging, transient chugging, condensation oscillation, stable condensation, bubble condensation oscillation, and intermittent oscillation condensation, were established. In addition, the dynamic pressures at the pool wall were measured. The close relation of dynamic pressure and steam condensation mode, which is also dependent on steam mass flux and pool temperature, was found.

A large number of small particles may surround large gravels which are non-contact and dispersed within the ground. The strength of such soil may be influenced by the mechanical properties of a few coarse gravels. A specimen or gravel size can impact the shear characteristics of sand with dispersed gravels. In this study, the size of gravel and specimen varies and its effect on shear characteristics of a granular soil was evaluated. Five sizes of gravels with 7, 12, 15, 18, and 22 mm were used repeatedly and inserted in the middle of each compacted layer. A specimen consists of five or ten equal layers depending on gravel size, which is 5 cm or 10 cm in diameter and 10 cm or 20 cm in height. An embedded gravel ratio by weight is 3% and constant for all cases with gravel. After consolidation, a series of undrained triaxial compression tests under three confining pressures was performed on sand with dispersed gravels. The maximum deviator stress of a specimen with 10 cm in diameter was at average 30% higher than that with 5 cm in diameter and increased up to 90% for a specimen with gravel. When a gravel size of 7 and 12 mm used, the maximum deviator stress of a specimen with 10 cm in diameter was higher than that of one without gravel, whereas the maximum deviator stress of a specimen with 5 cm was higher or lower than that without gravel. The gravel size and specimen diameter influenced the undrained behavior of sand. The maximum deviator stress of a specimen with gravel either increased or decreased compared to that without gravel, depending on the ratio of gravel size to specimen diameter, 1/5.

In this study, novel ultrasonic rotary motor of hexadecagon shape stator was proposed. Stator of the hexadecagon ultrasonic motor was composed of an elastic ring and ceramics. The elastic ring had sixteen sides and sixteen angular points. Eight ceramics were attached on the outer surface of the eight sides of the ring. When rotor of cylindrical shaft was inserted inside of the ring stator, central lines of the sixteen sides of the stator hold the shaft by the slight pressures(frictions). This slight pressure was a preload of the motor and it could be controlled by radius and thickness of the ring. When two sinusoidal voltages which have 90 degree phase difference were applied to each four ceramics, elliptical displacements of inner surface of the ring were obtained. These elliptical displacements of the inner surface rotated the shaft rotor through the frictions. The proposed hexadecagon ultrasonic motor was designed and analyzed by using the finite element method (FEM), depending on materials of the elastic ring. Based on the FEM results, one model of motor which showed maximum displacement at contact points was chosen and fabricated. And characteristics of the motor were compared with simulated results. When the motor was fabricated with these results, EL20ET0.5CT0.5CW2 model showed 115[rpm] speed about input voltage of 60[Vrms] at 65.6[kHz]. And the maximum torque of 6[gfcm] was obtained. From these results, the hexadecagon shaped ultrasonic motor can be used to actuator for optical device which needs detailed position control. Also it can be used to medical and portable device by reducing size and weight.

This paper was to analyze the membrane characterization of hydrophilicity, surface morphology and membrane chemical anlysis of three commercial microfiltration/ultrafiltration membranes, and evaluate the filtration performance of a seawater to assess the availability for pretreatment of desalination process. From the results of contact angle, Mem-3, fabricated with polyacrylonitrile, was highly hydrophilic. It find out that Mem-3 has more anti-biofouling property. In Field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM), Mem-1 (polyethylene) and Mem-2 (Polyvinylidenefluoride) showed the sponge-like shape and Mem-3 showed finger-like shape. Membrane chemical analysis by energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS) presented that Mem-2 was mostly fluoride and Mem-3 had s high ratio of N (32.47%) due to the nitrile group. The permeation flowrate per time on suction pressures using deionized water (D.I. water) tends that permeation rate of Mem-3 more increased when the pressure was increased compared to other membranes. From the results of turbidity and total suspended solids (TSS) removal, turbidity of permeate was 0.191 NTU to 0.406 NTU and TSS was 2.2 mg/L to 3.0 mg/L in all membranes, indicating that it was not suitable for the pretreatment of seawater desalination by short-term experiments.
The aim of this study was to investigate upper and lower limb muscle activity using EMG(electromyogram) sensors while walking and identify normal gait pattern using FSR(force sensing resistor) sensor. Fifteen college students participated in this study and their EMG and FSR signal were measured during stopping and walking trials. EMG signals from upper(pectoralis major and trapezius) and lower limbs(rectus femoris, biceps femoris, vastus medialis, vastus lateralis, semimembranosus, semitendinosus, soleus, peroneus longus, gastrocnemius medialis, and gastrocnemius lateralis) were obtained using the surface electrodes. FSR measured pressures on 8 areas of the sole of the foot during walking. EMG results showed that all muscle activities except for vastus lateralis and semimembranosus during walking had higher amplitudes than stopping. Additionally, muscle activities associated with stance and swing phase during walking were identified. Results on FSR showed that stance and swing phases were detected by FSR signals during a gait cycle. Eight gait phases-initial contact, loading response, mid stance, terminal stance, pre swing, initial swing, mid swing, and terminal swing- were classified.

A simplified single degree of freedom analog with mass-spring-dashpot is proposed in this study. The simplified analog can describe the dynamic behavior of a rigid circular footings whose contact pressures are parabolic. The analog proposed in this study shows remarkable agreement when compared with the elastic half-space theory the analog is also compared with vertical vibration test results of model concrete footings. For the vibration experiments, 11 circular footings with different mass ratio are constructed. The elastic half-space is represented by compacted sand layer. A constant force excitation vibrator is used for the dynamic loading. The frequency range for vibration tests is 30 to 100 Hz. From the dynamic experiments, it is found that the measured resonant frequencies agree very well with the analog results, however, the ratio of theoretical and measured resonant amplitudes vary between 0.5 and 1.7. It is also found that, when the dynamic force is increased, the resonant frequency is decreased slightly and the resonant amplitude is increased slightly.
