  • Synopsis-The difficulties of immunological nonienclature are discussed, the term ALLERGY defined and the various types of HYPERSENSITIVITY reactions are listed and characterized. Evidence for the association of Type I and Type 11 hypersensitivity reactions with COSMETICS is discussed. A table of cosmetic ingredients which have been implicated as SENSITIZERS are given. PREDICTIVE PATCH TESTS for contact sensitizers on GUINEA-PIGS and man are evaluated. The difficulties of testing for ALLERGENS likely to produce Type I hypersensitivity are discussed. IN VITRO tests for sensitizers are mentioned. The failure of all standard tests in the detection of weak sensitizers is emphasized.asized.

Fatigue resistance, debonding force, and failure type of fiber-reinforced composite, polyethylene ribbon-reinforced, and braided stainless steel wire lingual retainers in vitro

  • Objective: To analyze the fatigue resistance, debonding force, and failure type of fiber-reinforced composite, polyethylene ribbon-reinforced, and braided stainless steel wire lingual retainers in vitro. Methods: Roots of human mandibular central incisors were covered with silicone, mimicking the periodontal ligament, and embedded in polymethylmethacrylate. The specimens (N = 50), with two teeth each, were randomly divided into five groups (n = 10/group) according to the retainer materials: (1) Interlig (E-glass), (2) everStick Ortho (E-glass), (3) DentaPreg Splint (S2-glass), (4) Ribbond (polyethylene), and (5) Quad Cat wire (stainless steel). After the recommended adhesive procedures, the retainers were bonded to the teeth by using flowable composite resin (Tetric Flow). The teeth were subjected to 10,00,000 cyclic loads (8 Hz, 3 - 100 N, $45^{\circ}$ angle, under $37{\pm}3^{\circ}C$ water) at their incisoproximal contact, and debonding forces were measured with a universal testing machine (1 mm/min crosshead speed). Failure sites were examined under a stereomicroscope (${\times}40$ magnification). Data were analyzed by one-way analysis of variance. Results: All the specimens survived the cyclic loading. Their mean debonding forces were not significantly different (p > 0.05). The DentaPreg Splint group (80%) showed the highest incidence of complete adhesive debonding, followed by the Interlig group (60%). The everStick Ortho group (80%) presented predominantly partial adhesive debonding. The Quad Cat wire group (50%) presented overlying composite detachment. Conclusions: Cyclic loading did not cause debonding. The retainers presented similar debonding forces but different failure types. Braided stainless steel wire retainers presented the most repairable failure type.

  • 일반적으로 구름 베어링 시스템에 비해 발전용 터어빈이나 내연기관 엔진과 같은 저어널 베어링을 가진 시스템은 상대적으로 대형 설비이거나 더 가혹한 운전조건에서 가동되는 경우가 많다. 이런 회전기계류에서의 베어링의 파손은 설비의 운전 중단 및 관련 설비의 파손까지도 초래할 수 있게 된다. 따라서 이로 인한 보수에 소비되는 시간 및 경제적인 손실등을 피하기 위해서는 저어널 베어링의 조기파손 감지의,역할은 매우 중요하게 된다. 본 연구에서는 음향방출 기술을 이용하여 베어링에서 발생할 수 있는 파손의 조기검출을 위해 실험실용으로 직접 제작한 저어널 베어링 시스템을 이용하여 여러 형태의 비정상 조건을 만들어 가며 실험을 행하였다. 베어링 손상 및 피로의 주 요인으로서는 윤활유 부족, 윤활층에의 이물질의 혼입, 조립 불량 등이 대표적인 원인으로서 알려져 있으며 이에 근거하여 실험 조건을 윤활유에의 이물질 혼입, 윤활유 부족, 그리고 축과 베어링간의 금속간 접촉등의 인위적인 형태로 구성하여 실험하였다. 그 결과로서 음향방출 기술이 저어널 베어링의 조기파손 감지에 매우 효과적인 도구라는 것을 입증하였다.

Seismic behavior of steel reinforced concrete (SRC) joints with new-type section steel under cyclic loading

  • No significant improvement has been observed on the seismic performance of the ordinary steel reinforced concrete (SRC) columns compared with the reinforced concrete (RC) columns mainly because I, H or core cross-shaped steel cannot provide sufficient confinement for core concrete. Two improved SRC columns by constructing with new-type section steel were put forward on this background: a cross-shaped steel whose flanges are in contact with concrete cover by extending the geometry of webs, and a rotated cross-shaped steel whose webs coincide with diagonal line of the column's section. The advantages of new-type SRC columns have been proved theoretically and experimentally, while construction measures and seismic behavior remain unclear when the new-type columns are joined onto SRC beams. Seismic behavior of SRC joints with new-type section steel were experimentally investigated by testing 5 specimens subjected to low reversed cyclic loading, mainly including the failure patterns, hysteretic loops, skeleton curves, energy dissipation capacity, strength and stiffness degradation and ductility. Effects of steel shape, load angel and construction measures on seismic behavior of joints were also analyzed. The test results indicate that the new-type joints display shear failure pattern under seismic loading, and steel and concrete of core region could bear larger load and tend to be stable although the specimens are close to failure. The hysteretic curves of new-type joints are plumper whose equivalent viscous damping coefficients and ductility factors are over 0.38 and 3.2 respectively, and this illustrates the energy dissipation capacity and deformation ability of new-type SRC joints are better than that of ordinary ones with shear failure. Bearing capacity and ductility of new-type joints are superior when the diagonal cross-shaped steel is contained and beams are orthogonal to columns, and the two construction measures proposed have little effect on the seismic behavior of joints.

가속시험법을 활용한 자동차용 워터펌프 베어링의 수명특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Life Characteristic of an Automotive Water-pump Bearing Using the Accelerated Test Method)

  • A water-pump located in the cooling area of a car circulates cooling water. A particular bearing element, known as a water-pump bearing, installed in the rotating part carries the entire load. The failure of this water-pump bearing has a direct impact on the failure of the automobile engine, and so securing its reliability is crucial. Several researchers have examined the design principles of the water-pump bearing, but there are no reports on the life characteristic of the bearing yet. Herein, we report the construction of test equipment to reproduce the spalling of the roller contact, which is the main failure mode of the chosen water-pump bearing. We chose the radial load as an accelerated stress factor and validated the failure mode by monitoring the surface defects. We conducted the accelerated life test after determining the accelerated stress level through a combination of finite element analysis and a preliminary test. In the life tests, we used an accelerometer to perform failure diagnosis. In the last stage of this study, we present a statistical reliability analysis. Thus, we fully estimated the shape parameter of the water-pump bearing, accelerating level on the load , and the lifetime (MTTF and B10 life) under real use conditions, and finally proposed an interval estimation value considering the uncertainty of the estimated value.

2D numerical study of the mechanical behaviour of non-persistent jointed rock masses under uniaxial and biaxial compression tests

  • Determination of the mechanical behaviour of jointed rock masses has been a challenge for rock engineers for decades. This problem is more pronounced for non-persistent jointed rock masses due to complicated interaction of rock bridges on the overall behaviour. This paper aims to study the effect of a non-persistent joint set configuration on the mechanical behaviour of rock materials under both uniaxial and biaxial compression tests using a discrete element code. The numerical simulation of biaxial compressive strength of rock masses has been challenging in the past due to shortcomings of bonded particle models in reproducing the failure envelope of rock materials. This problem was resolved in this study by employing the flat-joint contact model. The validity of the numerical model was investigated through a comprehensive comparative study against physical uniaxial and biaxial compression experiments. Good agreement was found between numerical and experimental tests in terms of the recorded peak strength and the failure mode in both loading conditions. Studies on the effect of joint orientation on the failure mode showed that four zones of intact, transition to block rotation, block rotation and transition to intact failure occurs when the joint dip angle varies from 0° to 90°. It was found that the applied confining stress can significantly alter the range of these zones. It was observed that the minimum strength occurs at the joint dip angle of around 45 degrees under different confining stresses. It was also found that the joint orientation can alter the post peak behaviour and the lowest brittleness was observed at the block rotation zone.

치근접촉이 마이크로 임플란트 인접골 응력에 미치는 영향에 대한 유한요소해석 (Finite element analysis of peri-implant bone stresses induced by root contact of orthodontic microimplant)

  • 마이크로 임플란트 시술의 중요한 위험요인 중 하나로 치근접촉 문제가 있으나, 관련 연구는 결과 분석에 치중되어 있고, 치근접촉이 마이크로 임플란트 안정성 상실로 이어지는 기전에 대한 연구는 아직 미흡한 것으로 보인다. 이에, 본 연구에서는 생역학적 측면에서 그 영향을 분석하였다. Absoanchor 마이크로 임플란트(SH1312-7, Dentos Inc., Daegu, Korea) 첨부가 치근에 접촉되어 있을 때, 저작압 전달에 의한 마이크로 임플란트 변위가 인접골에 가하는 압축응력을 축대칭 유한요소모델을 사용하여 계산하였다. 요소별 응력이 해면골의 최대압축강도나, 치밀골의 비정상 골개조 임계능력을 넘을 경우 해당 요소를 순차적으로 해석모델에서 제거하며 실행한 6단계해석의 결과, 마이크로 임플란트에 인접한 해면골의 전체적인 파절과 과부하에 따른 치밀골의 비정상 골개조가 임플란트 지지력 상실에 주 요인이 될 것으로 평가되었다. 치밀골의 과부하 영역은 초기에는 치밀골판의 하부에 존재하였으나 상부로 확장되었고, 응력 재분포로 인한 감소효과 없이 양성 되먹임(positive feedback)으로 결국 치밀골 전 두께로 확대됨을 관찰하였다. 본 연구를 통해 치근접촉된 마이크로 임플란트가 인접골을 훼손시켜 안정성 상실로 이어지는 과정을 모사할 수 있었으며, 이로부터 치근접촉에 따른 마이크로 임플란트의 불량한 예후에 대한 생역학적 측면의 원인을 파악할 수 있었다.

고체로켓 케이스 내압파열 고장모드의 신뢰도예측 (Reliability Prediction of Failure Modes due to Pressure in Solid Rocket Case)

  • 본 연구에서는 고체로켓의 임무 수행 중 연소실 내압으로 인해 발생하는 고체로켓 케이스의 3가지 고장(응력파괴, 균열파괴, 볼트 체결 부 파손) 확률을 효과적으로 예측하는 기법을 개발하였다. 전체적인 확률계산 과정은 다음과 같다: 1) 고체로켓 모터의 고장모드에 영향을 주는 설계 변수선정 및 확률분포 부여, 2) 연소해석을 통한 로켓의 최대작동압력(maximum expected operating pressure, MEOP)의 확률분포 계산, 3) 케이스의 응력과 변형 형상을 구하기 위한 유한요소해석, 4) 3가지 고장함수에 대한 신뢰도예측의 수행, 계산의 편의를 위해 유한요소모델은 축대칭으로 가정하였고 볼트 체결 부의 접촉을 고려하였다. 효율적인 신뢰도예측을 위해 FORM(first-order reliability method) 기법을 통해 MPP(most probable failure point)를 탐색한 후, LHS(latin hypercube sampling)와 반응표면기법을 적용하여 고장모드를 다항식으로 근사화하며, 중요도 추출법을 적용하여 고장확률을 계산하였다.

열차 충돌하중에 대한 콘크리트 일탈방호시설물(DCP)의 해석적 거동 검토 (Analytical Behavior of Concrete Derailment Containment Provision(DCP) according to Train Impact Loading)

  • 전 세계적으로 철도의 노후화 및 고속화 등으로 인한 열차탈선사고가 증가하고 있으며, 그로인한 인적 물적 피해가 증가하고 있는 실정이다. 특히 철도교량의 경우에는 가드레일 또는 방호벽 등을 설치하고 있으나, 이는 탈선열차차량(train body level)이 방호벽과 충돌함으로써 열차의 탈선운동을 억제하여 정지시키는데 목적이 있다. 이와 같은 차량에 의한 탈선방호는 인명피해 위험성 및 2차 피해발생 가능성이 높다. 그러므로 본 연구에서는 주행레일 사이에 일탈방호시설물(DCP, Derailment Containment Provision)을 설치하여, 차륜 또는 차축(wheel/bogie level)에서 탈선열차를 방호할 수 있는 시설물을 개발하였다. 또한, 기존 철도교량의 일탈방호성능을 확보할 수 있도록 DCP의 급속시공이 가능하도록 설계하였으며, 방호벽에 작용하는 충돌하중과 급곡선부에서의 관성력을 감소시킴으로써 일탈된 열차가 교량 밖으로의 전도 낙하방지 및 반대편 선로의 침입하는 것을 최소화 하고자 하였다. 본 논문에서는 LS-Dyna을 이용하여, 설계한 DCP의 열차 충돌위치 및 콘크리트 궤도 접합조건에 따른 거동에 대하여 해석적으로 변수연구를 수행하였다. 특히 접합조건은 접합재료의 물성치에 따라 끊어짐을 모사하는 Tiebreak contact과 완전 부착되었다고 가정하는 Perfect bond contact으로 나눠 해석적으로 검토하였다. DCP의 변위, 앵커 및 콘크리트의 응력, 변형률을 확인한 결과 Tiebreak contact이 실제 충돌하중에 대한 거동을 보다 유사하게 모사하는 것으로 판단하였다. 또한, 충돌위치에 따른 변위는 접합구간에서 가장 큰 변형이 발생하였으며, DCP 블록의 중앙에 충돌이 가해질 경우, 충돌하중이 가해지는 DCP 배면에서 휨 파괴가 발생하였다. 본 연구에서 수행한 충돌해석은 실제 충돌실험의 어려움에 의해 사전적으로 해석을 수행하였으며, 이를 바탕으로 DCP 앵커 설계변경은 필요할 것으로 판단된다.

사망재해의 원인분석에 관한 연구 (A Study on Analysis of Causes for Fatal Accidents)

  • This study is conducted to analyze exact causes of occupational fatalities and results are as follows : 1) The number of fatalities in establislment which employed less than 50 workers is 605(40.1% ). Age of sixties and seventies is occupied by 10 percent with there being old-aged trend. Fatal workers who were employed less than 3 months are 39.5 percent and fatal workers who were employed more than 10 years are 11.9 percent. Safety training is necessary for newly recruited and long employed workers. 2) Accident type is, in sequence, fall from elevation, traffic accident, disease, contact with electric current, and hazardous condition is, in order, inadequate guard, hazardous method or procedure, public hazard, and agency of accident is, in sequence, temporary structure/building/structure, powered transport vehicle, passenger vehicle, hoisting or lifting apparatus, and unsafe act is, in order, driving error, failure to secure or warn. 3) The results of cross-tabulation for hazardous condition and accident type is, in sequence, traffic accident by public hazard, fall from elevation by hazardous method or procedure, fall from elevation as well as contact with elctric current by inadequate guard. The result of cross-tabulation for agency of accident and accident type is, in order, fall from elevation by temporary structure/building/structure, traffic accident of passenger vehicle and powered transport vehicle, contact with electric apparatus. The result of cross-tabulation for agency of accident and hazardous condition is, in sequence, public hazard of passenger vehicle, hazardous method or procedure of temporary structure/building/structure, publit hazard of powered transport vehicle, inadequate guard of temporary structure/building/structure. The result of cross-tabulation for unsafe act and accident type is, in sequence, traffic accident by driving error, fall from elevation by inattention to footing or surrounding, contact with electric current by secure or warn.
