  • This research prepared safety standard for out-door fitness and this research's purpose is to evaluate and investigate safety condition for out-door fitness which was distributed in domestic residence by applying TUV standard which evaluate product's safety inspection. We choose twelve companies which have many sales' amount and investigated for ten out-door fitness which have high consumer preferences. As a result of that, the ratio of successful applicants for safety evaluation was 55.1%. The terms desired was evaluated highly in safety for out-door fitness's fixing condition. However, the terms desired was evaluated lowly in safety for movable condition. Fitness equipment which has high consumer preferences was compared lowly than other equipment in safety part. It was analyzed that there was no difference in safety evaluation according to manufacturing company. So, it is necessary to prepare safety standard by establishing law in order to prevent accident while they are using because we cannot think that fitness equipments which was distributed in domestic area have high safety. We think that preparing safety standard can influence on preventing accident and reinforcing out-door fitness manufacturing companies' competitive.

  • This study was a survey of consumer awareness and attitudes about genetically modified foods and their labeling regulations. Questionnaires were distributed to 4,620 consumers who lived in different areas of Korea, and 4,076 people responded. The consumers were asked about knowledge, labeling information, and their sources of information about GM foods. Respondents from Seoul, Jeonnam, and Gyeongnam answered mostly "nearly don't know > moderate > never know > know a little." Respondents from Gyeonggi answered "moderate > nearly don't know > never know > know a little." According to occupation, housewives, company employees, consultants, and students answered mostly "nearly don't know > moderate > never know > know a little. "Consumers answered about the intent to buy GM foods differently according to area, occupation, and education. Seoul and Gyeonggi residents said that reinforcing factors to relieve the insecurity of GM foods were "evaluating safety > management of GM foods by the government > GM food regulation system." There were other answers according to area, occupation, and education. About GM-related education methods that they wished to have, residents of the Seoul area said "books/leaflets" most often, but residents of the Gyounggi area said "attending a lecture" most often. Housewives also said "attending a lecture," but teachers and students said "Internetbased education" most often. About the kinds of education that they could join, Seoul residents answered "consumer groups > school parents > public institutions," but Gyeonggi and Chungnam area residents answered "public institutions > consumer groups > school parents." Housewives and students answered "consumer groups" most often, but consultants and private business owners answered "public institutions" most often. We realized that different education methods were necessary for different areas, occupations, and education levels.

  • This study will be regarded significant in terms that empirical analysis was used to prove "Aviation Safety", a variable which had not been regarded as a airline choice factor within Korea air transport market so far, has an effect on the aviation consumers' airline preference change and choice after recent frequent aviation accidents. On releasing this paper. I wish, it can be another opportunity for Korean two national flag airlines to reappraise and reinforce the significance of "aviation safety" and set forth immediate vigorous efforts to support the government's aviation safety improvement countermeasures The study was performed to provide data and information for this.

  • Recently, drinking water quality has significantly improved with the progress of water treatment technologies, however, customer's trust on tap water is still relatively low. Low trust on water quality is mainly due to vague anxiety. Therefore, to improve customer's trust on drinking water quality new strategy such as water safety plan(WSP) which recommended by WHO and IWA should be introduced. WSP can be defined as an approach which uses comprehensive risk assessment and risk management approach that encompasses all steps in water supply from catchment to consumer to ensure the safety of a drinking water supply. In this study, cases on WSP introduction in other countries as well as strategy for the introduction of WSP in Korea were investigated. In addition, recommendations on the improvement of the current water contamination response manual was suggested based on the analysis of the existing manual at a full scale water treatment plant.

  • Despite manufacturers' effort to provide safe and reliable products, a number of product-related accidents occur all over the world resulting in much damage to property, personal injury and even loss of life. Considerable evidence indicates that some accidents arise from user negligence, but most are due to the design, manufacture, and distribution of unreasonably dangerous products when compared to their use. As a result, a tremendous number of product liability lawsuits have been filed, many times causing huge amount of financial damages to manufacturers. Furthermore, with increasing government regulation and growing power of consumer lobbies, manufacturers might be more exposed to product liability claims in the future than now. The objectives of this study are twofold: to provide a framework of future research on product liability and safety and to introduce a product safety policy. To accomplish these objectives, previous studies on product liability and safety were reviewed thoroughly. The product safety policy consists of two parts: (1) an engineering design strategy for reducing product-related risks and (2) a management program for a product liability loss prevention plan. The policy is essential to preventing manufacturers' liability exposure as well as designing a safer product.

  • This study analyzed that the standard of school supplies affects the satisfaction of certification. Safety requirements of school supplies in the Republic of Korea is enforced by court duty certification. Therefore, a test was conducted to compare the safety requirements of the United States and Europe and the survey was conducted to know how much manufacturers and importers are satisfied with the certification. To prepare management measures for harmful substances contained in children's product, XRF(X-ray Fluorescence Spectrometry) is utilized to analyze lead(Pb) and cadmium(Cd) in PA(paint), SP(sheet) and PVC(Poly Vinyl Chloride). The results of comparative analysis of ICP(inductively coupled plasma) is analyzed statistically with measured values.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of an educational program regarding food safety for children. The data were collected from the results of a self-administered questionnaire that was given to 510 6th grade elementary school students in the Youngnam region who had undergone a food safety education program. The results of this study were as follows. First, the educational need for food safety was high in each food safety category, with the educational need for prevention against foodborne illness being the highest of the 10 categories. On the basis of the study results, educational materials were developed which targeted personal hygiene, food labeling, food purchase, food washing, food storage, cooking, foodborne illness prevention, food additives, endocrine disruptors, and illegal foods. Additionally, about 37% of the respondents aswered that they preferred the food safety education to be conducted at home. Second, the food safety education significantly improved the levels of knowledge and behavior of children toward food safety. These results imply that food safety education that addresses the concerns of children and their parents' is needed to improve the level of knowledge and behavior toward food safety.

  • The objective of this paper is to understand value of active safety features on the customer perspective. In this study, 30 participants who don't have experience with active safety features were recruited and asked for preference, usefulness and consideration of each active safety feature after driving evaluation by them. Through this research, the preference of active safety features were analyzed and which of active safety features were the most useful and the most considered by customer when they purchase new vehicle. As a result, adaptive cruise control and side blind zone alert were the most strongly preferred and considered features by respondents and it means that respondents wanted comfort environment while driving and seemed to value features that compensated for limited visibility. On the other hand, active safety features that warned driver without control of the vehicle was deemed generally less desirable such as lane departure warning and forward collision alert. But autonomous emergency braking was higher than the other active safety features with only warning even if they did not have experience for it while this test. They thought it will be helpful in case of front-end collision situation even they just listened description before the test.

  • This study investigated consumer awareness on imported food safety management. The questionnaire explored status for confirmation as imported foods, consideration factors when imported foods were marketed, ways for finding imported food safety information, people responsible for problems in imported foods safety management, and imported food safety management items. Answers to 1065 questionnaires were analyzed using S-Plus 8.0. The principal results were as follows: 35.7% of respondents always confirmed whether it was imported food. The most important imported foods marketed is children food. 55.1% of respondents think inspectors have responsibility for problems of imported foods safety management. The most important factor for improvement of safety is reinforcement of quarantine. The providing of restricted information only after security problem occurs was the reason for non-satisfaction of safety information.
