  • As technology improves with the 4th industrial revolution, smart construction is becoming a key part of safety management in the architecture and civil engineering. By using object detection technology with CCTV data, construction sites can be managed efficiently. In this study, super resolution technology based on deep learning is proposed to improve the accuracy of object detection in construction sites. As the resolution of a train set data and test set data get higher, the accuracy of object detection model gets better. Therefore, according to the scale of construction sites, different object detection models can be considered.

  • As construction works have become larger and more complex, improving productivity by introducing Information Technology (IT) is pursued and more effective construction management is needed in construction industry. In this circumstance, many different kinds of project management system is being introduced, and various IT technologies are applied such as Personal Digital Assistant (PDA), Bar Code, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), Web Camera, and so on. However, these kinds of technologies might cause re-processing of information and ineffectiveness of project because of lack of real time information processing technology or separation between construction sites and management offices. Meanwhile, these technologies rather decrease the construction productivity except for the data saving and database function. Therefore, this research aims to develop Application that can be applied efficiently for construction material management, by understanding problems of former management system with questionnaires and extracting functions with analysis of requirements. In virtue of the construction material management Application which will be developed in this study, it will be possible to input information automatically, to process and check material information in real time, and to identify the location of necessary material. Then, the problem of separation between construction sites and management offices are solved, and as a result, more efficient management of materials in construction sites will become possible. At the same time, this study will investigate the possibility and applicability of new IT device, Smart Phone to construction sites.

  • In construction sites, small-scale construction quantities or limited work hours below the daily work volume may occur due to on-site conditions. For small-scale quantities, the input of equipment and labor is designed based on an hourly basis in the invoice, resulting in a difference from the actual cost. In this study, we aim to explore solutions from the perspective of construction cost standards to secure appropriate construction costs for small-scale and time-limited construction sites. Firstly, to preserve the basic construction costs on-site, we established standards where half the cost would be charged for construction quantities below four hours and a full day's cost would be designed for construction quantities between four to eight hours. Additionally, realistic construction cost calculation standards are expected to be provided by realizing a surcharge rate for work hour limitations to secure appropriate construction costs.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to analyze the current status of disasters and initial first aid in the construction industry, and to suggest the deployment of emergency medical technicians and reinforcement of first aid training in the construction industry. Methods: Among industrial accidents in 2020, the accident characteristics and initial first aid that occurred at construction sites were analyzed, and the emergency dispatch of 119 paramedics was analyzed through the SPSS method. Results: The incidence of serious accidents was high at small and medium-sized construction sites with less than 50 workers, and the incidence of falls was high, and there were few first responders who could provide first aid in the beginning. Therefore, it is necessary to improve first aid response capabilities at small construction sites. Conclusion: In order to improve the ability to respond to first aid at construction sites, it is necessary to deploy first responders and strengthen first aid education.

  • As public concern for fine dust has increased, so too has the interest in fugitive dust. Fugitive dust generated at construction sites, which is then scattered by vehicles moving around the sites, accounts for a significant portion. Small construction sites, which comprise the majority of construction sites, are often not adequately managed, because there are no regulations on fugitive dust for such sites. Therefore, in this study, in order to contribute to the establishment of fugitive dust management regulations on small-scale construction sites and to prepare measures to reduce fugitive dust, we measured and analyzed fugitive dust generated at small-scale building sites in Seoul. The fluctuations of fugitive dust generated at small-scale sites over time were checked, and the relatively low concentration when measured behind fences and railings suggested that fence installation is an appropriate method of reducing fugitive dust.

  • Effective construction safety management systems are desperately required for reducing damage caused by increasing safety accidents in construction sites. Safety accidents in construction sites can effectively protect if proactive measures are taken to prevent unauthorized worker access the expected hazardous area. In this study, we have developed a IoT(Internet of Things)-based dangerous zone alarming system for safety management in construction sites, which can be operated at low cost in large-scale sites as well as small and medium-sized construction sites. The development system utilizes a Zigbee-based beacon technology and cellular mobile communication technology to detect when authorized workers, unauthorized field workers or outsiders approaches hazardous zones. If somebody approaches the dangerous zones the system notifies immediately to the safety manager with a danger warning signal. It is expected that this system can effectively prevent safety accidents when applied to construction sites.

  • Construction activities are characterized as hazardous work. Therefore, it is very imperative to explore comprehensively fatal accidents and safety performance in both developed and developing countries. The goal of this study was to look at the reasons behind fatal accidents in HCMC, Vietnam's largest city. The survey sample consists of 91 fatal accident cases in total that occurred in construction sites during the years 1996-2005 and were reported to the Department of Labor-Invalids-Social Affairs in HCMC. The study was conducted by means of field surveys with relevant individuals working in construction sites and statistical analyses. The research resulted in failing to wear/use PPE as unsafe acts and in poor safety management procedures/methods in sites as insecurely working conditions behind serious accidents in the construction. The paper stresses that accidents tended to occur more in state-owned companies than in others and involved more with masonry/welding people and workers without labor contracts than with other workers.

  • Construction site management involves overseeing tasks from the construction phase to the maintenance stage, and digitalization of construction sites is necessary for digital construction site management. In this study, we aim to conduct research on object recognition at construction sites using drones. Images of construction sites captured by drones are reconstructed into BIM (Building Information Modeling) models, and objects are recognized after partially rendering the models using artificial intelligence. For the photorealistic rendering of the BIM models, both traditional filtering techniques and the generative adversarial network (GAN) model were used, while the YOLO (You Only Look Once) model was employed for object recognition. This study is expected to provide insights into the research direction of digital construction site management and help assess the potential and future value of introducing artificial intelligence in the construction industry.

  • Safety education should not only prevent workers from industrial accidents but also contribute to improve the productivity of manufacturing plants or construction sites. In practice this do not happen because workers do not realize the importance of safety education. This study aims to suggest a methodology to improve safety education of construction sites by surveying conditions of safety education and the safety consciousness of workers and engineers. The results showed that most education except regular educations were nominally carried out. Lectures and audio-visual education were mainly used as educational methods. After trainees attended the education session they completed a written survey, the most dissatisfied factor about safety education was education circumstances, of which rate was around 36%. The proportion of construction engineers who thought that safety management was contributable to cost reduction was 35%, to construction period 20%, and to quality enhancement 48%. Based on these results, this research pointed out the need to review training manuals, the development of educational programs, improvement of educational facilities to improve safety education of construction sites, and finally to discussed these issues.

  • This paper draws performance results through comparing WMNs' methods when the WMNs are used in tunnel construction sites. There are many advantages of WMNs : lower cost, easy to network maintenance, robustness and reliability within RF-ranges. As a result, using the WMNs would be suitable to employ as a network infrastructure for the construction sites. This paper evaluates the performance of WMNs which we have installed in a tunnel construction. Through the performance results, we conclude the performance of data throughputs gets lower when we perform the network in tunnel environments. We make attempts WMNs' two major methods which are SISC(Single Interface with Single Channel) and MIMC(Multi Interface with Multi Channel) to figure out which method will be better for the construction sites. Through the experiments, the WMN based on the MIMC method was comparatively suitable in network performance aspect for the tunnel Sites.
