Purpose: This paper conducts IoT and CCTV-based safety monitoring to analyze accidents and potential risks occurring at construction sites, and detect and analyze risks such as falls and collisions or abnormalities and to establish a system for early warning using devices like a walkie-talkie and chatbot service. Method: A safety management service model is presented through smart construction technology case studies at the construction site and review a relevant literature analysis. Result: According to 'Construction Accident Statistics,' in 2021, there were 26,888 casualties in the construction industry, accounting for 26.3% of all reported accidents. Fatalities in construction-related accidents amounted to 417 individuals, representing 50.5% of all industrial accident-related deaths. This study suggests implementing AI chatbot services for construction site safety management utilizing IoT-based health monitoring technologies in smart construction practices. Construction sites where stakeholders such as workers participate were demonstrated by implementing an artificial intelligence chatbot system by selecting major risk areas within the workplace, such as scaffolding processes, openings, and access to hazardous machinery. Conclusion: The possibility of commercialization was confirmed by receiving more than 90 points in the satisfaction survey of participating workers regarding the empirical results of the artificial intelligence chatbot service at construction sites.

Currently, safety management is becoming important at domestic construction sites. Despite the importance of safety management, accidents at construction sites are steadily increasing. Fire accidents among safety accidents cause not only negative effects on schedule delay or work plans at construction sites, but also huge casualties. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to extract the causes of fire at the construction site through the case of fire at the construction site, and to prioritize prevention through the analysis of the factors to contribute to the prevention of fire. As a research method, we select fire factors through case, conduct surveys through expert group, and analyze survey through AHP technique. The results of the AHP analysis of the survey of expert groups showed that the workers and their sub-item ranked high. Therefore, the priority for fire prevention was given, and this research is believed to help prevent fire.
As the construction sites are far from the construction site offices, the construction workers perform work on the sites with a variety of reference books and materials. This inconvenience may lead to construction accidents, and as such, the demand for mobile app development for simplifying work is increasing. Therefore, in this study, the trends of mobile research and mobile app development, and their application to the construction field were investigated to develop a mobile app that would help construction workers process their work. Based on this, mobile services applicable to construction sites and work process improvement plans were proposed. To apply the proposed work process, the functions of the existing construction project management system were improved, and a mobile app that could be used in both the Android and iOS environments was developed.
According to 'The Analysis of Industrial Accidents in 2016' by Ministry of Employment and Labor, the number of deaths caused by accidents in the construction field is 391, accounting for 47% of 826 industrial fatalities in all industries. The breakdown of the 391 fatalities of the construction industry shows that 'struck by an object' accident had 30 fatalities, the 3rd in frequency following falling (235) and crashing (32) accidents. This study aims to explore ways to reduce the 'struck by an object' accident with emphasis on safety education and certificate system for rigging and slinging works. This study reviews literature on rigging and slinging works and analyzes 'struck by an object' accidents. The rules and regulation on the rigging and slinging works are also reviewed both for Korea and other countries with best practices in construction safety such as Singapore, Japan, U.K., and U.S. The rigging and slinging certificate systems of those countries are also reviewed to find any advantage in the construction safety management. In addition, a pilot rigging and slinging certificate system was executed in one of domestic construction site followed by two surveys: one on the riggers who participated in the pilot operation and the other on general managers in domestic construction sites. Based on the analysis of the 'struck by an object' accidents and pilot operation, this study proposes a rigging and slinging certificate system to reduce accidents, enhancing safety condition of construction sites. The certificate system was proposed in a way to accommodate working practice of construction sites. Depending on rigging careers and a crane load capacity, riggers are eligible to apply either basic or master certificate which makes difference in the level of rigging works. The safety condition of rigging and slinging work could be substantially enhanced if workers, managers, supervisors, administrators, and policy makers work together consistently.

By reviewing the existing researches of construction safety management, this study presented some problems; 1) preceding researches dealt only a formal system of safety management and did not focus on the practical safety management action, 2) there is an insufficient endeavor of utilizing the lessons teamed of successful construction sites and generalizing the success factors of safety management in the construction industry. The objective of this study is to propose and describe an effective construction safety management activity improvement reflecting success factors of the excellent construction cases and the preceding researches. To achieve this objective, the authors performed a case study of successful construction sites and proposed the major six safety activities. The author's point are illustrated through an explanation of the safety management activity improvement.

In order to cope with the decrease of construction manpower caused by the aging population and to improve construction productivity, Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism has been promoting construction methodology using ICT (Information & Communication Technology) since 2016. The ministry has established and implemented new cost estimation standards, delivery systems, and government support policies to boost automated earthwork using ICT, and is expanding the types of automated construction methodology applied at the construction sites. To utilize ICT at construction sites in Korea, as in case of Japan, laws, systems, and policies should be readjusted first. By comparing the ICT-related systems and policies between Japan and Korea, this paper scrutinizes critical benchmarking factors. As a result, we have reached the conclusion that in order to promote ICT methodology at Korean construction sites, Korean government should establish ICT-related cost estimation standards, delivery systems, and economic support policies in advance.

Purpose: Construction sites are currently facing a socialization problem as the incidence of thermal disease-related disasters increases due to summer heat waves, exacerbated by factors like the concentration of middle-aged and older workers and global warming. The reason why construction sites are particularly vulnerable to heat waves is that there are many outdoor work, which is the peculiarity of the construction industry, and most of the construction workers are elderly. This study analyzes disaster statistics of workers at construction sites for five years to investigate the occurrence of thermal diseases and analyze factors through disaster cases to provide basic data for future disasters to be reduced. Research design, data, and methodology: According to the Construction Workers' Mutual Aid Association, as of June, more than 60% of the construction workers working in the field were in their 50s and 60s. More than 24% are in their 60s and older. Thermal diseases caused by heat waves occur when exposed to high heat or strong sunlight for a long time, accompanied by headaches and dizziness. The problem is that many elderly people have underlying diseases, so if they lose consciousness, they cannot easily recover and are likely to die. Results: According to industrial accident statistics, 182 people were injured by heat-related diseases in the summer from 2016 to 2021, of which 29 died. In particular, in the construction industry, which has a lot of outdoor work, 87 people were injured and 20 people died. Conclusions: In order to prevent heat diseases caused by outdoor work, it is emphasized that exposure time is controlled, and sufficient rest and hydration are essential. Rest, water, and shade are in line with the three principles.

A construction noise is the main reason for people's petition among the pollution. The purpose of this study is to develop the noise prediction program to see the level of the noise on the construction site more accurately. For this purpose, the database of the power level on the various equipments was made. The noise reduction by distance and the noise reduction by diffraction of barrier were mainly considered and calculated. The simple noise prediction program will provide the information about proper height and length of the potable barrier which satisfies noise criteria of the construction sites from a construction planning stage. To investigate the reliability of this program, the predicted data was compared with the measured data. An average of difference between measured data and predicted data is 1.3 dB(A) and a coefficient of correlation is about 0.95.

Soil-cement, a hardened mixture of Portland cement, soil, and water that contain sufficient durability, has been widely utilised in Seoul urban construction sites to retain lateral earth pressures or reinforce grounds. However, little information has been reported about the strength characteristics of soil-cement constructed in Seoul urban area. In this study, we performed a number of unconfined test to the soil-cements mixed from soils sampled in 3 sites in Seoul urban area. Results indicate that unconfined strengths and optimum cement amounts of soil-cements are highly dependent on the proportion of coarse-grain particles of mixed soils. Furthermore, changes of unconfined strengths with curing time are diverse with respect to mixing conditions.

As buildings becoming higher and more enormous the portion of steel works has been increased, which makes the schedule planning and management more significant. However, in actual construction sites, management is more based on a manager's construction experience than productivity data accumulated in previous projects. Moreover, most of the existing studies also featured a theoretical approach rather than an analysis of data straightforwardly collected in sites. In this study, a steel-erection site was visited to collect productivity data. The study found that there were significant disparities between aboveground work productivity and underground work. However, the productivities of 'first node on ground' and 'second node on ground' were estimated similar. The productivity data collected and factors affecting the productivity will help managers to plan and control their similar steel-erection works. This study will also be beneficial for those performing related studies.
