  • As an attempt to characterize the pulse behaviors at the three pulse diagnosis positions in the oriental medicine which are called Chon, Gwan, and Cheok, we measure the pluse waveforms by SphygmoCor apparatus, that has been used widely for the evaluation of the arterial stiffness, and examine the Augmentation Index (AIx) at the aorta. For the study, twenty healthy men at the age of twenties have participated as the subject group. The pulse has been measured twice at the three palpation positions, and by two-way repeated measures ANOVA we tested the repeatability and the mean differences in the aortic AIx between Chon, Gwan, and Cheok. The AIx was found to be statistically different between the measurement positions. Duncan's test shows that the AIx is statistically different between Chon and the other two positions. Our study may be used as a reference for further scientific quantification of the pulse diagnosis.

  • Objectives The purpose of this study was to identify the research trends and major fields of Sasang Constitutional Medicine by analyzing the topics of papers contained in the Journal of Sasang Constitutional Medicine from the first issue to 2018. Methods To classify the research themes of the paper, theory, Characteristics in Sasang Constitution(SC), Diagnosis in SC, Treatment in SC, etc. categories and subcategories were created. Two researchers reviewed the title, abstract, and text of the paper and classified them according to the category classification. In case of disagreement, the category was determined through discussion with one of the remaining researchers. Results & Conclusions A total of 1,169 papers published in the Journal of Sasang Constitutional Medicine from the first issue to 2018. The number of published papers has increased steadily since the first issue of the Journal of Sasang Constitutional Medicine, and in 2008, the largest number of papers were published, but since then, the number of papers has gradually decreased. When classifying the categories of published papers according to research themes, the Theory field occupied a large portion in the early stages, but since then, the proportion has decreased steadily, and the number of publications has plummeted since 2012. On the other hand, in Treatment in SC field, its proportion has soared to account for about half of the papers since 2001. In Characteristics in SC and Diagnosis in SC fields, since the early 1990s, the number of publications has been consistently maintained.

  • Objectives The aim of this study is to analyze the therapeutic direction and characteristics of gastrointestinal diseases by three societies of Korean medicine by comparing the frequent disease patterns and prescriptions of them. Methods The experts of the three societies of Sasang constitutional medicine, Hyungsang medicine and Sanghan-GeumGwe medicine discussed and confirmed a list of clinical data to make use for diagnosis. Then, clinical data on 200 patients suffering from gastrointestinal symptoms were collected. The each experts diagnosed appropriate disease patterns and decided prescriptions according to the method of their affiliated society. Results and Conclusions The three different societies' experts showed the similarity in the sense of categorizing disease patterns focusing on the specific physiology and pathology of the patients, while the each societies have different diagnosis systems. Treating chronic gastrointestinal patients, they treated the mental or psychological symptoms of the patients as well as their physical problems. Based on this study, it is necessary to develop a systematic and precise research model to objectively and statistically analyze the correlation of disease patterns and prescriptions by different societies.

  • This study was performed to analize the possibility of validation about Questionaire of Sasang constitution Classification which has been made through several stages for the purpose of promoting the objectivity of Sasang constitutional classification. The results of statistical research about the responses data of Sasang Questionaire are as follow: 1. In the case of mutual relation between the items of the QSCC(Questionaire of Sasang Constitution Classification) and 16PF, every item displaced singnificant result.(in male group) 2. In the investigation to classify the score distribution of Sasang items three groups and analize the gap of mean value in each of 16PF, the characters of each Sasang group were turn out as follows: (1) The Taee-Yang group has extrovert and narcissistic inclination. (2) The So-Yang group shows remarkable extrovert inclination. (3) The Tae-Eum group has hidden fear and introvert inclination. (4) The So-Eum group has revealed physical unstability and introvert inclination. 3. The statistical research of female group didn't display any significant result. It will be necessary to analize the respondent shape of female group and introduce new items to coincident with faminine psychology. 4. In the research using 16PF accompany with QSCC in order to classify the Sasang constitution, the accuracy rate of diagnosis showed inspiring elevation. For that reason, it seems to be desirable to introduce some items of 16PF into QSCC. According to above results, although QSCC contains several problems to be solved, its validity was proved, and the analysis of statistics suggests the possibility to step forward by introducing 16PF in some problems of promoting the accuracy of Sasang Constitutional diagnosis, assuring the objectibity of Sasang constitution classification and so on.
