Low earth orbit (LEO) satellite broadband network is a crucial part of the space information network. LEO satellite constellation design is a top-level design, which plays a decisive role in the overall performance of the LEO satellite network. However, the existing works on constellation design mainly focus on the coverage criterion and rarely take network performance into the design process. In this article, we develop a unified framework for constellation optimization design in LEO satellite broadband networks. Several design criteria including network performance and coverage capability are combined into the design process. Firstly, the quality of service (QoS) metrics is presented to evaluate the performance of the LEO satellite broadband network. Also, we propose a network stability model for the rapid change of the satellite network topology. Besides, a mathematical model of constellation optimization design is formulated by considering the network cost-efficiency and stability. Then, an optimization algorithm based on non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm-II (NSGA-II) is provided for the problem of constellation design. Finally, the proposed method is further evaluated through numerical simulations. Simulation results validate the proposed method and show that it is an efficient and effective approach for solving the problem of constellation design in LEO satellite broadband networks.

The optimum design of an SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) satellite constellation is developed herein using a genetic algorithm. The performance of Earth observations using a satellite constellation can be improved by minimizing the maximum revisit time. Classical orbit design using analytic methods has limitations when addressing orbit dynamics due to various disturbances. To overcome this issue, an optimization technique based on a genetic algorithm is used. STK (Systems Tool Kit) is utilized to propagate the satellite orbit when considering external disturbances, and the maximum revisit time on the earth observation area is calculated. By minimizing the performance index using a genetic algorithm, the optimum orbit of the satellite constellation is designed. Numerical results are provided to demonstrate the performance of the proposed method.

Multi-dimensional DC-free trellis codes based on two-dimensional constellation which can be omplemented more easily than conventional codes are proposed and their performances are analyzed in this paper. 2N-dimensional constellation of the proposed codes is constructed by concatenating N 2-dimensional constellation. Thus, for the proposed codes, information bits can be assigned easily to each signal point of the 2-dimensional consteellation and DC-free characteristic can be simply obtained by the symmetric structure of the constellation. In addition, since Viterbi decoder can calculate multi-dimensional Euchlidean distance between signals by simple sum of each 2-dimensional Euclidean distanc, decoding complexity can be reduced. The performance analysis shows that the proposed codes have almost same spectral characteristic and error performance as compared with conventional codes. However, the complexity is shown to be reduced further due to the construction method of contellation and the simple decoding algorithm of the proposed codes.
We present a family of constant-amplitude constellations of even dimensions 8 and above. These constellations allow trellis coded modulation to be implemented without the usual penalty paid for constellation expansion. The new constellations are generated by concatenating either n QPSK points or n QPSK points rotated by 45 degrees, for any n $\geq$ 4. Our constellations double the number of points available for transmission without decreasing the distance between points and without increasing the average or peak energies, introducing asymmetry, or increasing the modulation level. Effective gains of 2.65 dB with minimum complexity through 6.42 dB with moderate complexity are demonstrated using the 8D constellation.

We demonstrate rotationally invariant space-time (ST) trellis codes with a 4-D rectangular signal constellation for data transmission over fading channels using two transmit antennas. The rotational invariance is a good property to have that may alleviate the task of the carrier phase tracking circuit in the receiver. The transmitted data stream is segmented into eight bit blocks and quadrature amplitude modulated using a 256 point 4-D signal constellation whose 2-D constituent constellation is a 16 point square constellation doubly partitioned. The 4-D signal constellation is simply the Cartesian product of the 2-D signal constellation with it-self and has 32 subsets. The partition is performed on one side into four subsets A, B, C, and D with increased minimum-squared Euclidian distance, and on the other side into four rings, where each ring includes four points of equal energy. We propose both linear and nonlinear ST trellis codes and perform simulations using an appropriate multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) channel model. The 4-D ST codes constructed here demonstrate about the same frame error rate (FER) performance as their 2-D counterparts, having however the added value of rotational invariance.

In recent wireless communication systems such as Long Term Evolution-Advanced (LTE-A) system, to transmit large multimedia data, high order modulations including 64-ary quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) are adopted. However, performance of the modulation depends on the signal constellation in the same modulation order. Therefore, a symbol error rate (SER) expression of optimal performance is necessary for analyzing the SER performance of various signal constellation. The optimal signal constellation based on error bound has been previously described, but an exact SER expression has not been derived. In this paper, we propose an exact SER expression of optimal signal constellation for 64-ary QAM.

The purpose of this study is to research seasonal constellation experiments and to find out what are effective seasonal constellation experiments according to school salary. we organized seasonal constellation experiments with 24 elementary preparatory teachers and asked them to what effective experiments are for each school class. As a result, constellation learning through direct experience activities through role play is the most effective in elementary school, and in middle and high schools, using the stellarium program to realistically observe and reason about seasonal changes in constellations was selected as an effective experiment. Pre-service teachers recognized that experiments in which direct experience and specific manipulation activities were emphasized in elementary school, and experiments in which observation of realistic natural phenomena and reasoning activities were emphasized were effective in middle and high schools.

In this paper, design of a new 3-dimensional (3-D) 16-ary signal constellation with constant envelope is presented and analyzed. Unlike the conventional 16-ary constellations, all signal points of the new constellation are uniformly located on the surface of a sphere so that they have a unique amplitude level and a symmetrical structure. When average power of the constellations is normalized, the presented 16-ary constellation has around 11.4% increased minimum Euclidean distance (MED) as compared to the conventional ones that have non-constant envelope. As a result, a digital communication system which exploits the presented constellation has 1.2dB improved symbol error rate (SER). While signal points of the conventional constant-envelope constellation are not distributed uniformly on the surface of a sphere, those of the proposed constellation has a completely symmetric distribution. In addition, the new signal constellation has much lower computational complexity for practical implementation than the conventional one. Hence, the proposed 3-D 16-ary signal constellation is appropriate for the application to a communication system which strongly requires a constant-envelope characteristic.

For the Earth observation satellite for ISR mission, a satellite constellation can be utilized to observe a specific area periodically and ultimately increase the effectiveness of the mission. The Walker-Delta method was applied to design constellation orbits with four satellites, which could detect abnormal activities in AoI(Area of Interest). To evaluate the effectiveness of the mission, a revisiting time was selected as a key requirement. This paper presents the mission analysis process for four SAR satellites constellation as well as the result of constellation configuration design to meet the requirements. Figure of Merits analysis was performed based on algorithm developed. Finally, it was confirmed that the constellation orbit with four different orbital planes is likely to be appropriate for ISR mission.

This paper compares the adaptive eualization performance of CR-MMA (Constellation Reduction-MMA) and CR-MMA (Constellation Matching-MMA) in order to minimization of intersymbol interference that is occur in channel for 2-dimensional QAM signal. For obtain the error signal in order to updating the tap coefficient of conventional adaptive equalization algorithm MMA, the CR-MMA converts the constellation reduction concept of high order 2-dimensional QAM nonconstant modulus signal to constant modulus signal and the CM-MMA use the constellation matchine error concept in order to force the matching the $2^{nd}$ and $4^{th}$ cumulant of equalizer output and transmitted signal constellation. By applying the different method for getting the error signal, these algorithm are possible to obtain the improved equalization performance compared to the conventional MMA algorithm, the improved performance of CR-MMA and CM-MMA were compared by computer simulation in this paper. As a result of simulation, the CM-MMA has more better performance in the equalizer internal performance than CR-MMA, but not in equalizer external performance as in SER.
