Background: Having a conscience is one of the main pre-requisite of providing nursing care. The knowledge regarding levels of conscience among nurses in eastern countries is limited. So, the purpose of this study was to examine the level of conscience and its related factors among Iranian oncology nurses. Materials and Methods: This descriptive-correlational study was conducted in 3 hospitals in Tabriz, Iran. Overall, 68 nurses were selected using a non-probability sampling method. The perceptions of conscience questionnaire was used to identify the levels of conscience among nurses. The data were analyzed using SPSS version 13.0. Results: The mean nurses' level of conscience scores was 72.7. In the authority and asset sub-scales nurses acquired higher scores. The mean of nurses' scores in burden and depending on culture sub-scales were the least. Also, there were no statistical relationship between some demographic characteristics of participants and their total score on the perceptions of conscience questionnaire. Conclusions: According to study findings Iranian nurses had high levels of conscience. However, understanding all the factors that affect nurses' perception of conscience requires further studies.
The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships between parents' affectionate parenting behavior, preschooler's effortful control, and conscience. In this study, the subjects consisted of 335 preschoolers ($M_{month}=65.86$) and their parents. The major results of this study were as follows. First, there were positive correlations between parents' affectionate parenting behavior, preschooler's effortful control, and conscience. Second, preschooler's effortful control mediated the effects of affectionate parenting behavior upon preschooler's conscience. Third, preschooler's effortful control(Time 1) had effects upon conscience(Time 2). In conclusion, this study revealed that parents' affectionate parenting behavior and preschooler's effortful control can have a significant impact on the level of preschooler's conscience.
The purpose of this study was to examine the factors that have an influence on parenting stress and to examine the guilty conscience of parents who send their children to full-day child care centers. The results of this study were as follows : First, it showed that the negative parenting attitude of mothers with a university diploma or higher is higher than mothers with a two-year college diploma or below. And positive attitude of working mother is higher than nonworking mothers in the difference of mother's guilty conscience, parenting stress and parenting behavior according to the demographic characteristics. Second, mother's guilty conscience and parenting stress showed a negative relationship with mother's a positive parenting behavior and a positive relationship with mother's negative parenting behavior. Third, after review of the effect of mother's guilty conscience and parenting stress on positive and negative parenting behavior, the most influential variable on positive and negative parenting behavior was parenting guilty conscience.
The study examined the moderating role of fearfulness on the relation between parental discipline styles and preschoolers' conscience. It also investigated the relationship between parental discipline styles and conscience and the relationship between a child's fearfulness and conscience. A sample of 250 parents of children aged between three and six (126 boys and 124 girls) completed the questionnaires on parental discipline style, preschoolers' conscience, and their fearfulness. The collected data were analyzed using Pearson's correlation coefficients and hierarchical regression analysis. Results showed that young children displayed greater actions of reparation and apology when mothers did not neglect and practiced reasoning. The more coercive punishment mothers practiced, the less internalized conduct children showed. In addition, the neglecting discipline style of fathers and the reasoning style of mothers had a significant negative and positive influence, respectively, on children's guilt. The results also showed that fearfulness of children had significant positive effects on their actions of reparation and apology and guilt. Finally, fearfulness moderated influences of mothers' coercive punishment on actions of reparation and apology and fathers' reasoning on internalized conducts. Only fearful children showed not only more actions of reparation and apology when fathers had coercive discipline style but also more internalized behavior when mothers had reasoning discipline style. These results emphasize mutual influences between parental roles and children's personal traits on conscience development in early childhood.
In this research, I define 'conscience' in Daesoon thought as the 'Restorative capability of returning to one's roots.' The notion of conscience forms a structure of separation and return, and it is connected to the ascetic aim of realizing human perfection. The conscience opens up potential possibilities and leads realization of potential possibilities by returning to the the point of origin. In the middle of separation and return, the conscience acts as the power of subjectivity possessed by human beings which is known as 'In jon (Human Nobility)' in Daesoon thought. The concept of conscience in Daesoon thought is connected with the subjectivity of In jon and free will as well as the character of subjectivity. This shares commonalities with critical thinking, modern characteristics, and the subjectivity of Heidegger's existentialism. Heidegger describes human fate from an existentialist vantage point using terms such as dasein, Geworfenheit, and Entwurf, and establishes human existence as an act of self-recovery from within in a lonely existential establishment. Daesoon thought implies that humanity is the root of ultimate reality, and this description is in sharp contrast with the thrownness (Geworfenheit) of Heidegger's subjectivity. Therefore, Daesoon thought can be seen as unique in its characterization of humanity as being connected to the root of ultimate reality, autonomy, and independent existence.
In this era of transnational migration, it is necessary to recognize the signs of the times regarding religion. During the globalization of Korean society, migration cannot be avoided, and as such, Korea should look towards hospitality with practical themes of religion and religious people aiming for peace. Therefore, this study examines the concept of 'conscience' in Daesoon Thought because this understanding of the conscience connects people to their heavenly endowed nature and their original selves. First, in order to explore the religious ideas of hospitality for transnational migration, this study viewed the issue through three analytical frames: exclusive perception, tolerant perception, and pluralistic perception, and then criticized these from the perspective of hospitality. Furthermore, hospitality was viewed as an attitude of attempting to expand one's sense of self in dealing with others. Religiously, it was derived that the expansion of one's sense of self should aim for relationships of Sangsaeng (相生 mutual beneficence) as these go beyond mere symbiosis. In addition, as a way to overcome otherness, the religious idea of unconditional hospitality towards migrants was explored focusing on the concept of conscience in Daesoon Thought. In Daesoon Thought, the mind is the source of Heaven and Earth and also the essence of human existence. There are two aspects of mind that arise in humans: conscience and private interest. In Daesoon Thought, the conscience enables human potential and aims for a return to the source. In other words, it is to abandon private-interest and regain one's nature and the essence of one's personality. This can be done through Mujagi (無自欺 Guarding against Self-deception); embodying and maintaining a mind that does not deceive itself. In Daesoon Thought, the practice of Sangsaeng ethics based on Mujagi is expressed as Haewon Sangsaeng (解冤相生 the Resolution of Grievances for Mutual Beneficence) and working for the betterment of others. Therefore, when the relational and communal perspectives of Daesoon Truth and Sangsaeng are reinforced, the argument for developing the practical ethics of Haewon Sangsaeng based on Mujagi into the transformation of the human spirit expressed as unconditional hospitality was found to be sound.
Theories on the nature of the mind aim to accurately describe the nature of the human mind. In other words, these theories are meant to discover what the human mind ultimately is and what its nature is. In this study, I try to understand the theory of the nature of the mind in Daesoon Jinrihoe in connection to similar theories in Confucianism. Like in Confucianism, the issue of mind is an important subject in Daesoon Jinrihoe. The concept of 'mind' as presented in 'The Jeon-Gyeong' is connected to gods. But in 'The Jeon-Gyeong,' there is no premise that the mind is good or evil. It suggests that the mind is the center of humanity and the universe and that all things depend on the mind. Therefore it is understood that good and evil are revealed according to the actions of the mind. Conscience (良心) and self-interest (私心) are mentioned in 'Essentials of Daesoon Jinrihoe'. If conscience is understood as benevolence (仁) as spoken of by Confucius, or as Moral Knowledge in Mencius's usage, more advanced discussion can be made. If looked upon in that way, one can conclude that conscience is the nature of the mind and thereby, the nature of humans and their minds is good. Discussions on the nature of the mind can also be explained in relation to the concept of 'a Singularly-focused Mind (一心)', which was frequently emphasized by Jeungsan. The two mindsets of conscience and self-interest are mentioned, but the original mind is only conscience which exists as the nature of heaven (天性). Self-interest is nothing but an illusion. As Zhu Xi explained that even if a saint (聖人) thought of utterly nothing, he would became a madman, and therefore people should look closely and realize that self-interest is nothing but a delusion. Accordingly, when returning to one's conscience, the orignal state of a singularly-focused mind, it becomes the sort of Singularly-focused Mind that Jeungsan emphasized. In other words, self-interest is a form of greed that is born out of worldly desires.

Originally [descriptive review] is widely used by general reader. In contrast with this, [critical review] is generally used by librarian and researcher. Like this, book review is divided into descriptive review and critical review. Besides, the present writer su n.0, pposes to make additions to [interpretative review]. In this study, the present writer tries to realize full-scale review concerning [The Root Problem of Law Philosophy/Kim, Pyong-Kyu] by critical review and interpretative review. Together, the contents on which the critical review of law philosophy is based on were investigated as follows: (1) The law and metaphor (2) The Oriental law and natural law (3) The golden rule in the Orient (4) The ideology and justice of Confucianism (5) The justice in Confucian thought (6) The essay on justice of the West and the Orient (7) The significance of the Oriental morality (8) The relation of morality, ceremony and law (9) The essay on conscience (10) The essay on conscience of the Orient and the West
The purpose of this paper is to establish a methodology useful for identifying links between the postwar novels of Spain and Korea. We analyze the lives and actions of the characters from Nada by Carmen Laforet, and Writing on blank paper by Oh Sang Won. The characters in these novels demonstrate the challenge of adapting to the harsh reality of life because of the psychological or physical scars of war: characters such as Jungsub and Jungseo in Writing on blank paper and Juan and Andrea in Nada finally overcome their difficulties thanks to a shared sense of existential conscience and a steadfast fighting spirit; others, like Jungyun and Roman, surrender to the struggle and commit suicide, tragically succumbing to the bitter harshness of reality. Through the analysis of these novels' characters, we can empathize with the common tragedy of war-time life and death; we gain perspective on the destruction of both society and people caused by war.
What should a therapist do if the patient has lost the ability to speak in sessions? How should the therapist understand and approach this 'deadly silence'? Psychosomatic patients have poor ability to mentalize their experience, so they create a 'shunt' from emotional experience to body bypassing symbolic sphere. This makes psychosomatic patients vulnerable to expressing their emotions in words. With the case vignette 'When words are unspeakable: a bridge beyond the silence' written by Wirth in a book "From soma to symbol" we observe how psychosomatic pathology arises, from inappropriate mirroring and poor containment; and how this escalates into a vicious cycle of sin and punishment in the patient's conscience. This conscience scenario imprisons a talented and creative mind in a dark, silent place, wherein symbols and words are forbidden. This seemingly impossible task of providing silent patients with a 'talking cure' finds breakthrough with containment, and transformative thinking using therapists' reveries.
