A Study on the Behavior of Metal Touch Connection subject to Connection Types (이음방식 및 틈의 위치에 따른 메탈터치 이음부의 거동에 관한 연구)

  • In the steel structure of high-rise buildings, a connection analysisand a column design have been made after welding and bolting suitable gaps. Each country, however, has different codes, and such differences are very big. American steel has been designed according to a code that all axial loads can be carried from the upper parts to the lower parts as determined by the designer, but Korean and Japanese steel have been designed by 1/4 of the standard of all axial loads. In this paper, a metal touch experiment was done as an intermediation parameter with a connecting location and a connecting method for economic and constructive efficiency. Every specimen is tested by a low-to-high displacement control to grasp ultimate strength, displacement, the connection's lateral deflection, and stress. The results of the test were compared and analyzed.

A Model for Liquid Circulation Velocity in Airlift Reactors (공기부양반응기 내에서의 액체순환속도를 위한 모델)

  • A mathematical model for predicting the liquid circulation velocity in an airlift reactor was developed based on the mechanical energy balance of the fluid circulation loop. The model considered the energy loss due to a 90° turn, the energy loss due to friction, and the energy loss due to the change in cross-sectional area at each part of the reactor. The model that separately considered the loss coefficients related to friction, direction change, and cross-sectional area change was able to predict the liquid circulation velocity better than the previous model using lumped parameters. The liquid circulation velocity was measured by the tracer pulse method. Most of our experimental results obtained in external-loop airlift reactors, which had the top and bottom connecting pipes, as well as other investigators' results obtained in various types of airlift reactors, were well predicted by the developed model with an error within 20%. Useful empirical equations for the loss coefficient related to the 90° turn of the circulating fluid were obtained in external and internal-loop airlift reactors and used to predict the liquid circulation velocity.

Personal Identification Using Inner Face of Fingers from Contactless Hand Image (비접촉 손 영상에서 손가락 면을 이용한 개인 식별)

  • Multi-modal biometric system can use another biometric trait in the case of having deficiency at a biometric trait. It also has an advantage of improving the performance of personal identification by using multiple biometric traits, so studies on new biometric traits have continuously been performed. The inner face of finger is a relatively new biometric trait. It has two major features of knuckle lines and wrinkles, which can be used as discriminative features. This paper proposes a finger identification method based on displacement vector to effectively process some variation appeared in contactless hand image. At first, the proposed method produces displacement vectors, which are made by connecting corresponding points acquired by matching each pair of local block. It then recognize finger by measuring the similarity among all the detected displacement vectors. The experimental results using pubic CASIA hand image database show that the proposed method may be effectively applied to personal identification.

Vision Sensing for the Ego-Lane Detection of a Vehicle (자동차의 자기 주행차선 검출을 위한 시각 센싱)

  • Detecting the ego-lane of a vehicle (the lane on which the vehicle is currently running) is one of the basic techniques for a smart car. Vision sensing is a widely-used method for the ego-lane detection. Existing studies usually find road lane lines by detecting edge pixels in the image from a vehicle camera, and then connecting the edge pixels using Hough Transform. However, this approach takes rather long processing time, and too many straight lines are often detected resulting in false detections in various road conditions. In this paper, we find the lane lines by scanning only a limited number of horizontal lines within a small image region of interest. The horizontal image line scan replaces the edge detection process of existing methods. Automatic thresholding and spatiotemporal filtering procedures are also proposed in order to make our method reliable. In the experiments using real road images of different conditions, the proposed method resulted in high success rate.

  • According to the progress of multimedia technology and growth of high speed network, plenty of multimedia contents are produced and in circulation. Because of these reasons, it is required that the method which can manage efficiently and make multimedia contents, for which are saved in Storage as different used, synchronize. In this paper, the metadata schema that can manage the method with being database using each Device metadata that are produced by extracting the needed information to multimedia contents is suggested. And the method that can make synchronized multimedia contents metadata on connecting between heterogeneous devices is proposed.

  • Recently, there have been intensive researches on the wireless Internet access through WiFi WLAN using WiRro network as backhaul link in the Internet service providing business area. However, in the wireless Internet access method, we need to solve the compatibility problem for different user authentications between licensed WiBro network and unlicensed WiFi network for billing and user management. In this paper, we propose an authentication method for WiFi users by BWAN operators through WiNNERs which is RS connecting the two networks, and discuss the effectiveness of the method.

  • Almost prefounded columns for top-down construction certainly have construction tolerances in plan and plumbness. Therefore, it is very difficult to connect prefabricated beams to prefounded columns at each floor level after excavation by usual top-down connection method and this usual connection method leads to long construction time, increasing cost and decreasing quality. This paper presents a new method for connecting prefabricated beam to prefounded column with GROUT-JACKET CONNECTION SYSTEM consisting of sleeve, bearing-shear bands and grout. Details and illustrations of the connections and applications by GROUT-JACKET CONNECTION SYSTEM for the top-down construction are also included in this paper.

  • For the autonomous movement, the optimal pat]1 planning connecting between current and target positions is essential, and the optimal path of mobile robot means obstacle-free and the shortest length path to a target position. Many actual mobile robots should move without any information of surrounded obstacles. This paper suggests a new method of obstacle avoidment which is suitable in unknown environments. This method of obstacle avoidance is designed with a distributed fuzzy control system, and imitates a Potential Field method. A simulation confirms the performance and correctness of the obstacle avoidance.

  • A Mise-$\grave{a}$-la-masse method is to use a subsurface conductive mass itself as one current electrode of a pair by connecting it directly to one pole of a voltage source, the second current electrode being placed on the ground surface at a great distance and connected to the other pole. This paper is to study the modified Mise-$\grave{a}$-la-masse method using a water tank, that is, the second current electrode is placed on the underground level instead of being placed at a great distance, to find the geometry and the continuity of ore bodies.
