Coding-based Storage Design for Continuous Data Collection in Wireless Sensor Networks

  • In-network storage is an effective technique for avoiding network congestion and reducing power consumption in continuous data collection in wireless sensor networks. In recent years, network coding based storage design has been proposed as a means to achieving ubiquitous access that permits any query to be satisfied by a few random (nearby) storage nodes. To maintain data consistency in continuous data collection applications, the readings of a sensor over time must be sent to the same set of storage nodes. In this paper, we present an efficient approach to updating data at storage nodes to maintain data consistency at the storage nodes without decoding out the old data and re-encoding with new data. We studied a transmission strategy that identifies a set of storage nodes for each source sensor that minimizes the transmission cost and achieves ubiquitous access by transmitting sparsely using the sparse matrix theory. We demonstrate that the problem of minimizing the cost of transmission with coding is NP-hard. We present an approximation algorithm based on regarding every storage node with memory size B as B tiny nodes that can store only one packet. We analyzed the approximation ratio of the proposed approximation solution, and compared the performance of the proposed coding approach with other coding schemes presented in the literature. The simulation results confirm that significant performance improvement can be achieved with the proposed transmission strategy.

Comparison of Fuel Consumption Estimation for Passenger Cars (승용차 유류소모량 산정 방법의 비교 연구)

  • Evaluation of fuel consumption for the various road condition and vehicle type is necessary to perform the economic analysis of road construction which is important for the efficient design and management of road. Economic analysis of road should consider the social cost which can be divided into agency cost including initial construction expense, maintenance cost, and so on, and user cost consisting of vehicle operating cost, congestion cost, etc. Since vehicle operating cost depends on the traffic volume, fuel consumption that is a major part of vehicle operating cost will change by traffic volume as well. Fuel consumption is significantly affected by vehicle speed and road condition, especially the roughness. Thus, fuel consumption should be evaluated in terms of road condition, which is not currently considered. In this study, the estimation model of fuel consumption for the passenger cars in Korea has been developed by considering the road condition. First, the relationship between vehicle speed and fuel consumption that is used to calculate the vehicle operating cost for investment evaluation of transportation facility and the initial feasibility study of road construction was investigated. Second, with the consideration of road roughness, fuel consumption of the passenger car was measured. From the measurement, it was found that fuel consumption increased by $80m{\ell}$ per 100km driving as the roughness increased by 1m/km. Therefore, it is recommended that for the economic analysis of road design and management, the fuel consumption should be a function of road roughness.

  • We may consider the inducement of demand to public transportation as a solution to relieve traffic congestion and pollution. Subway has merits as moving on schedule, transporting more people than bus. But subway is required a vast investment in the early stage of construction has a huge debt. So it runs into red figures, and on this account, services of subway are falling more and more. Development of subway's operation cost function is useful to understand structure of subway's operation and catch the relations of operation cost and actual results. In addition, we can present the policy that is a helpful to the operation as development of operation cost function. But there are short of studies about operation cost deal with a subway comparison with local train. Because local train has many lines and data, on the other hand, subway has one to four lines and less data. Most of previous studies sought the operation cost function of Seoul. So this study aimed to develop and apply the operation cost function of Seoul, Incheon, Busan and Daegu area using full allocation method. In this study, we considered the number of passengers, track-km, train-km, revenue as actual results. By appling the operation cost function, we compared the average cost of each city and confirmed the existence of economies of scale about the number of passengers, train-km.

  • With increasing the quality of life in proportion to the national income, we have had cars as more convenient and safe means of transportation for a long time. The more we have the benefits from cars, the more seriously we should consider problems such as the destruction of the environment by air pollution, traffic accidents, parking problems, traffic congestion, etc. as social cost caused by the increase of cars. Among them, the traffic accidents are very serious, especially the accidents of the business cars occurs five times more than those of the private cars. Therefore if we analyze the cases of the various kinds of syst.em, test the results and apply them to business cars, we will reduce the traffic accidents of business cars.

  • 우리나라의 전력 계통은 수도권에 부하가 집중되어 있는 반면에 발전 설비는 비수도권에 위치해서 대규모 북상 조류가 발생한다. 이런 대규모의 장거리 전력 전송은 계통의 안정도를 떨어뜨리고 사고시 전력 계통에 불안정을 야기할 수 있다. 때문에 이를 방지하기 위해 송전전력을 제한하게 되고 그로 인한 혼잡비용이 발생한다. 전압형 BTB(Back-to-Back) HVDC의 경우 유효전력과 무효전력의 독립적인 제어가 가능하므로 전압형 BTB HVDC를 수도권 전력 계통에 투입시켜 무효전력을 보상해줄 수 있다. 무효전력을 보상해주면 수도권으로의 융통전력이 더 증가하게 되고 그로 인한 혼잡비용을 절감시킬 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 PSS/E를 이용하여 전압형 BTB HVDC를 수도권 전력망에 투입하여 융통전력을 계산하고 이를 토대로 탄소세를 고려한 혼잡 비용절감 효과를 알아본다.

A Study of the Remodeling Techniques for Old Apartment Blocks (아파트단지 내부의 리모델링 수법에 관한 연구)

  • The rebuilding method for old apartment housing blocks has merits of providing new buildings and larger private living spaces. However, it causes many serious urban problems, such as shortage of infrastructure capacity, traffic congestion, reduction of building life, and deterioration of open space quality. Nowadays, remodeling is accepted as a way of overcoming such negative effects of the rebuilding method. This study focuses on the various techniques of remodeling. The results of this research are as follows; First, old apartment blocks provide poor level of service in general, so they have problems of bad accessibility, deterioration of facilities, and degraded landscape. In many cases, there is a hindrance from walking freely and security problem due to illegal privatization of public spaces. Second, various remodeling techniques are required to meet residents' different needs. The residents of apartment housing value private space above public space, and show low level of willingness to pay cost for remodeling. Third, based on these findings, some remodeling techniques are suggested - integration of a space to another, expansion of spaces, connection of spaces, reuses of roofs and walls, relocation and renovation of paths between buildings, and so on.

  • 우리나라 전력계통은 비수도권 지역의 발전단가가 수도권 지역의 발전단가보다 값이 싸기 때문에 비수도권에서 수도권지역을 연결해주는 6개의 북상선로에 흐르는 융통조류의 양이 하나의 경제성을 평가하는 기준이 될 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 병렬형 FACTS 투입에 따른 혼잡비용 감소를 융통조류 여유(f-V)해석을 통하여 평가하였다. 수도권 지역에 병렬형 FACTS가 투입된다면 수도권지역에 무효전력 공급으로 인하여 융통조류 증가를 우리나라 중장기 계통에 대해 모의하고, 이때의 발전 비용을 계산하여 FACTS 투입에 따른 혼잡비용의 경감효과를 분석하였다.

  • 본 논문은 수도권의 융통전력 한계를 고려한 제약급전사례를 검토하고 FACTS의 투입에 따른 운전이익을 계산함으로써 FACTS 투입의 최적위치를 결정하는 방안에 대하여 논한다. 계통 전압안전성과 경제성을 동시에 고려하여 FACTS 투입이익을 계산한다. 즉 연구계통에 대한 FV해석을 통하여 융통조류한계값을 결정하고, 결정된 한계값을 가지고 P-POOL 모의를 수행하며 FACTS 투입에 따른 증대된 수도권 융통전력한계를 적용하여 운전이익을 계산한다. 최종적으로 FACTS 투입 후보지에 대한 운전이익을 비교하여 경제성 있는 투입위치와 용량을 제안한다.

  • In a competitive environment of electric power industry, developing the technological criterions and methodologies on transmission planning is becoming new challenge to transmission system planner. The use of a locational signal and the provision of a indicative plan to control the transmission investment reasonably is very important in the viewpoint of a regulator. The main target of this study is to develop a systematic criterion of transmission expansion planning. And system congestion cost is considered. The proposed methodology was demonstrated with several case studies.

  • 비수도권과 수도권의 수급 불균형 해소를 위한 6개의 북상선로에 흐르는 융통조류량의 한계값이 경제성 평가의 한 기준이 될 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 수도권 융통전력 한계를 고려한 제약급전사례의 검토 결과를 이용하여 FACTS 투입에 따른 증대된 융통전력한계를 바탕으로 FACTS 투입에 따른 혼잡비용측면에서 운전이익을 평가하는 방법을 논한다. 즉, F-V 해석결과를 이용하여, 수도권 융통전력 한계값을 결정하고 좀 더 정확한 운전이익 계산하기 위하여 결정된 한계값을 P-POOL 프로그램을 이용하여 혼잡비용 경감 효과를 확인할 수 있는 모의 방법을 확립한다. 확립된 방안은 계획계통을 이용해 검증하고, 최종적으로 FACTS 투입량과 투입후보지에 대한 융통전력 한계 측면에서의 경제성 평가한다.
