Alendronate sodium (ALS) is a nitrogen-containing bisphosphonate used for the treatment of different bone disorders. However, its adverse effect on oral soft tissue has been detected. Rutin (RUT) is natural flavonoid with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. This work aimed to investigate the possible effect of ALS on the tongue of adult male albino rats and to evaluate the possible protective role of RUT. Forty adult male albino rats were equally divided into four groups: group I (control), group II (RUT): Received RUT 50 mg/kg, group III (ALS): Received ALS 1 mg/kg, group IV (ALS+RUT):(ALS+RUT): Received ALS and RUT with the same doses as pervious groups. The drugs were given once daily for 5 weeks. Tongue specimens were taken and processed for light and scanning electron microscopic inspection. ALS treated group revealed structural changes in the tongue in the form of decrease in the height of the filiform papillae with blunt ends, marked atrophy in some papillae with areas of focal loss, loss of some epithelial cells, pyknotic nuclei and cytoplasmic vacuoles in some epithelial cells. The lamina propria showed inflammatory cellular infiltration with congested blood vessels. Statistically, there were highly significant decrease in the number of proliferating cell nuclear antigen immunopositive cells, area percentage of Bcl-2 immunoexpression and highly significant increase in the collagen content compared to control group. Administration of RUT with ALS minimizes these changes. RUT protected the rat tongue against the histological and immunohistochemical changes induced by ALS through its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

Big and old trees in the scenic spots with the attributes of remote villas are vulnerable to man-made damages and very sensitive to the external environment such as soil conditions, so the corresponding management plans are required. Thus this study has been conducted to survey the big and old trees in the scenic remote villas and suggest the ideal management plans. The results can be summarized as follows. First, regarding the tree heath above the ground, transformation of tree, death of branches, and death of barks are closely related to tree vigor. Particularly, the areas receiving many visitors require prompt countermeasures against the dried and dead tress above the ground and the areas in which dried and dead tress occurred and also the safety measures for the visitors and facilities. Second, regarding the soil environment, visitor traffic is closely related to the tree vigor. In 15 remote villa gardens, 64% of trees are exposed to heavy traffic and the tree vigor has declined due to an increase of visitor. Thus, there is a need to give positive consideration the installation of the complementary facilities and the plantation of herbal plants in the congested areas to form the ground surface that can tolerate the heavy visitor traffic. Third, remote gardens are in general located adjacent to ponds and mountain streams and thus the trees in the waterfront areas require the prompt countermeasures against the decline of growth due to the excess-moisture in the soil. Further the blockage of the sewage system due to the heavy rains dampens the surrounding soil, which results in lethal damages to the trees. Thus, there is a need of the maintenance of the waterfront areas and sewage system before and after the rainy season. In addition, there is a need to establish medium-long term management polices through the recognition of the importance of the main trees of remote villa gardens in scenic spots and prepare the tree management manual depending on the attributes of the corresponding areas. I strongly suggest making manuals for the systematic management as well as the extensive PR activities and education for the preservation of tress on a long-term basis; and furthermore securing the budget and manpower for the research and development of a systematic management system.

Recently, the scale of flood damage occurring in urban areas is increasing due to climate change and urbanization, so various flooding analysis techniques are needed. In the Sadangcheon Stream basin, which has been continuously flooded since 2010, a basic plan for improving drainage was established using XP-SWMM and measures to prevent flooding were proposed. However, in the process of inundation analysis, the analysis considering the city's buildings was not conducted, resulting in a problem that the degree of flooding damage tends to be overestimated. Therefore, in this study, XP-SWMM was used to compare and analyze cases where buildings were not considered and designated as inactive areas. As a result of the study, it was analyzed if the building was not considered, the flood damaged area was 271,100 m2 and the depth of submersion was 0.15 m, and if the building was considered inactive area, the flood damaged area was 172,900 m2 and the depth of submersion was 0.32 m that it is under-estimated about 36% and an flow velocity around the building increased from 1.62 m/s to 1.83 m/s about 1.12 times.
Motorcycle patrol is used for traffic control and enforcement in highly congested areas. One of the major problems with this form of patrol is that it is extremely dangerous since just about any type of accident tends to cause harm to the rider. The purpose of this study is to analyze the effectiveness of police motorcycle patrol, and to suggest the methods for improving the effectiveness of police motorcycle patrol. This study conducts the survey on 139 policemen that belong to Daejeon Provincial Police Agency that had implemented motorcycle patrol. By factor analysis, the intimacy between policemen and citizens, the excellence of patrol devices, the speed of response, and the appropriacy of patrol method are grouped as the independent variables. And the dependent variable is the effectiveness of police motorcycle patrol. The results of this study demonstrates that the effectiveness of police motorcycle patrol is affected statistically by the speed of response, the appropriacy of patrol, and the intimacy between policemen and citizens. But, the intimacy between policemen and citizens affected the effectiveness negatively. Therefore, police department must make the effort for increasing the speed of response and enhancing the appropriacy of patrol. Also, police department must make patrolmen sincerely conscious of the value of police-community relation.
In relation with economical efficiency analysis on investment evaluation of transportation system, among vehicle operating cost saving benefit that is applied to general preliminary assessment guidelines and investment evaluation guidelines, oil expense calculated data which concentrated and analyze on the relationship between oil consumption amount on running state and running speed. For uninterrupted flow which does not have stopped delay due to traffic signal, consideration for reduction benefit is possible due to the changes of running speed and travel time however, for interrupted flow which the stopping occurs due to signal control on actual signal intersection has no consideration for stopping delay time reduction and stopping rate improvement thus reflection of reality on improved effect analysis is difficult. Therefore, this research makes a framework to analyze benefits that reflects the features of signalized intersections by benefits associated with decrease of stopping delay time with existing research and developing vehicle operating cost calculation model formula. Vehicle operating cost has been redefined considering the stopping delay time by applying the oil consumption amount at idling and the economical benefit between conventional model and newly developed model when applied for the optimization of traffic signal system on the two roads in Seosan city has been analyzed comparative. While the importance of traffic system maintenance is being emphasized due to the increase of congested areas on roads, it is expected to assist in more realistic economical analysis which reflect the delay improvement through the presentation of an economic analysis model that considers the features of signalized intersections in signal optimization system improvements and effect analysis of congestion improvement projects`.
The analytic methodology of a merging area in KHCM(2004) supposes that congestion nay occur when traffic demand is more than capacity However, in many cases, congestion on merging area occurs when summation of traffic demand of main line and ramp is less than capacity, and in present methodology analysis of how main line and ramp flow effect on congestion occurrence is difficult. In this study, the model that is able to estimate traffic flow condition on merging area in accordance with the combination of main line and ramp demand flow is developed. Main characteristic of the model is estimation of maximum possible throughput rate and maximum throughput rate according to the combination of main line and ramp demand flow. Through the estimation of maximum possible throughput rate and maximum throughput rate. it was Possible to predict whether congestion would occur or not and how much maximum throughput rate and congestion would be on merging area. On one hand, in present LOS evaluation methodology on merging area, congestion state is determined as un-congested flow if demand flow is less than capacity. The objective of this study is to build a methodology for evaluating intelligent transportation systems (ITS) projects, by selecting measures of effectiveness (MOEs) and developing an approach to collect and process traffic data. While reviewing the existing MOEs and evaluation methodologies for ITS projects, several problems were found, such as the complication in delineating study areas, the absence of standardized evaluation methodologies, and the duplication in selecting MOEs. To tackle these problems, two MOEs capable of directly evaluating traffic conditions were chosen: i.e., average vehicle speed and traffic volume. Both MOEs can not only include all the functions of the existing MOEs, but also be simpler and more objective in evaluating real traffic conditions. The traffic volume can be measured by using either "cordon line" or "all point average" methods. On the other hand, measuring the average vehicle speed depends on site-specific characteristics such as traffic flow states (interrupted or uninterrupted) and traffic conditions (congested or uncongested). The present methodology is easily understandable for anyone and applicable for any ITS project, and is also expected to contribute to building a standardized evaluation system.
In the congested urban areas, tunnelling close to existing structures or services often occurs due to the lack of surface space so that tunnelling-induced ground movements may cause a serious damage to the adjacent structures. This study focused on the two dimensional laboratory model pile-soil-tunnelling interaction tests using a close range photogrammetric technique. Testing equipments and procedures were Introduced, particularly features of aluminium rods regarded as the frictional granular material. The experimental result showed that the photo imaging process by the VMS and EngVis programs proved to be a useful tool in measuring the pile tip movements during the tunnelling. Consequently, the normalised pile tip movement data for the influence zones can be generated by the laboratory model tests using the Photogrammetric technique. This study presents influence zones associated with the normalized pile tip settlements due to tunnelling in the cohesionless material. The influence zones were Identified by both a laboratory model test and a numerical analysis. The normalized pile tip movements from the model test were in good agreement with the numerical analysis result. The influence zones proposed in this study could be used to decide the reasonable location of tunnel construction in the planning stage. However, the scale of model pile and model tunnel sizes must be carefully adjusted as real ones for practical application considering the ground conditions at a given site.

This study, the one concerning the evaluation analysis of the function of the wind generation using KLAM_21, has examined closely how the wind really flows on the space of the city, working with the object of case location. In the first place, the cold air formed at upper stream of Sincheon river, a ravine of whole area of Gachang gully and an inclined plane of neighboring mountainous district, flows to the north and expands itself along the upper stream of the Sincheon river, and as the time passes, it is tending upwards in the change of the volume and height as well as of the velocity and direction, of the cold air. It was learned that this phenomenon has made it clear that the spatial features of this area give rise to very good condition in generating and flowing the cold air. Meanwhile, it has been shown that in the area of park in the Ap-mountain, the generation and flow of the cold air are much interrupted because of the overpass traversing the whole area of the park of Ap-mountain, the congested area of large-scaled apartments and the urban development activities constructing the building in the park, and the volume and height of the cold air has been grown very small. In conclusion, It has been learned that for maximization of the spatial effect of the wind corridor, the areas where the cold air is generated, flowed, accumulated, and maintained, have to be connected spatially, and this spatial connection has a close relation with spatial features of the area.

The objective of this study is to identify the causes of pedestrian volume path to the destination by investigating the influential levels of regional and planning features in the central area of Seoul. Regional characteristics can be classified from the result of the analysis and through the spatial characteristics of pedestrian volume. For global scale analysis, Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) regression is used for the degree of influence of each characteristics to pedestrian volume. For the local scale, Geographically Weighted Regression (GWR) is used to identify regional influential factors with consideration for spatial differences. The results of OLS indicate that boroughs with transportation facilities, commercial business districts, universities, and planning features with education research facilities and planning facilities have a positive effect on pedestrian volume path to the destination. Correspondingly, transportation hubs and congested areas, commercial and business centers, and university towns and research facilities in the Seoul central area can be identified through the results of GWR. The results of this study can provide information with relevance to existing plans and policies about the importance of regional characteristics and spatial heterogeneity effects on pedestrian volume, as well as significance in the establishment of regional development plans.
