Objective: The aim of this study was to assess thyroid function in breast cancer patients exposed to therapeutic external beam radiation. The focus was on possible progressive changes and any relationships between the incidence of primary hypothyroidism, the time required to become hypothyroid, and factors such as chemotherapy, hormonotherapy and immunotherapy. Materials and Methods: Seventy females undergoing 3D conformal and IMRT radiation therapy for breast cancers were enrolled in a non-randomized prospective study. The patients was divided into two groups: those after mastectomy or breast conserving surgery (BCS) were irradiated to a scar of the chest wall/breast and the ipsilateral supraclavicular and the axillary areas (supraclavicular radiotherapy group - SC-RT group - 32 patients) and the control group receiving adjuvant chest wall/breast RT only (BCT group - 38 patients). The total doses were 50.0 to 70 Gy in 5 to 7 weeks. The median follow-up term was 24 months (range, 1-40 months). Thyroid function was evaluated by measuring thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), free thyroxine (fT4), and free triiodothyronine (fT3) levels. The minimum, maximum and mean thyroid gland doses for 20 Gy (V20) were calculated for all patients. Results: Statistically significant results were obtained for the SC-RT group. Two yearsa fter the end of RT the chance of an event was increased in 6% of the population (p=0.009) in the SC-RT group. In the BCT group no significance was noted. No statistically significant differences were found for V20, chemio-, immunotherapy and hormonotherapy or Ki67 values (p=0.12). No significant results were obtained for development of hypothyroidism and clinical factors (age, thyroid volume, treatment modalities). Conclusion: Radiotherapy is associated with a higher incidence of thyroid toxicity in breast cancer patients. Routine thyroid function monitoring should be recommended in such cases.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to compare the dosimetry of electron beam (EB) plans and three-dimensional helical tomotherapy (3DHT) plans for the patients with left-sided breast cancer, who underwent breast conserving surgery. Materials and Methods: We selected total of 15 patients based on the location of tumor, as following subsite: subareolar, upper outer, upper inner, lower lateral, and lower medial quadrants. The clinical target volume (CTV) was defined as the area of architectural distortion surrounded by surgical clip plus 1 cm margin. The conformity index (CI), homogeneity index (HI), quality of coverage (QC) and dose-volume parameters for the CTV, and organ at risk (OAR) were calculated. The following treatment techniques were assessed: single conformal EB plans; 3DHT plans with directional block of left anterior descending artery (LAD); and 3DHT plans with complete block of LAD. Results: 3DHT plans, regardless of type of LAD block, showed significantly better CI, HI, and QC for the CTVs, compared with the EB plans. However, 3DHT plans showed increase in the $V_{1Gy}$ at skin, left lung, and left breast. In terms of LAD, 3DHT plans with complete block of LAD showed extremely low dose, while dose increase in other OARs were observed, when compared with other plans. EB plans showed the worst conformity at upper outer quadrants of tumor bed site. Conclusion: 3DHT plans offer more favorable dose distributions to LAD, as well as improved target coverage in comparison with EB plans.
Purpose: The objective of this study was to compare dosimetric characteristics of three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy (3D-CRT) and two types of intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) which are step-and-shoot intensity modulated radiotherapy (s-IMRT) and modulated arc therapy (mARC) for thoracic esophageal cancer and analyze whether IMRT could reduce organ-at-risk (OAR) dose. Materials and Methods: We performed 3D-CRT, s-IMRT, and mARC planning for ten patients with thoracic esophageal cancer. The dose-volume histogram for each plan was extracted and the mean dose and clinically significant parameters were analyzed. Results: Analysis of target coverage showed that the conformity index (CI) and conformation number (CN) in mARC were superior to the other two plans (CI, p = 0.050; CN, p = 0.042). For the comparison of OAR, lung V5 was lowest in s-IMRT, followed by 3D-CRT, and mARC (p = 0.033). s-IMRT and mARC had lower values than 3D-CRT for heart $V_{30}$ (p = 0.039), $V_{40}$ (p = 0.040), and $V_{50}$ (p = 0.032). Conclusion: Effective conservation of the lung and heart in thoracic esophageal cancer could be expected when using s-IMRT. The mARC was lower in lung $V_{10}$, $V_{20}$, and $V_{30}$ than in 3D-CRT, but could not be proven superior in lung $V_5$. In conclusion, low-dose exposure to the lung and heart were expected to be lower in s-IMRT, reducing complications such as radiation pneumonitis or heart-related toxicities.

Purpose: Deep inspiration breath hold (DIBH) is a well-established technique that enables efficient cardiac sparing in patients with left-sided breast cancer. The aim of the current study was to determine if DIBH is effective for reducing radiation exposure of of liver and other organs at risk in right breast radiotherapy (RT). Materials and Methods: Twenty patients with right-sided breast cancer were enrolled in this study. Three-dimensional conformal RT plans were generated for each patient, with two different computed tomography scans of free breathing (FB) and DIBH. Nodes were contoured according to the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group contouring guidelines. Dose-volume histograms for the target volume coverage and organs at risk were evaluated and analyzed. Results: DIBH plans showed significant reduction in mean liver dose (5.59 ± 2.07 Gy vs. 2.54 ± 1.40 Gy; p = 0.0003), V20Gy (148.38 ± 73.05 vs. 64.19 ± 51.07 mL; p = 0.0003) and V10Gy (195.34 ± 93.57 vs. 89.81 ± 57.28 mL; p = 0.0003) volumes compared with FB plans. Right lung doses were also significantly reduced in DIBH plans. Heart and left lung doses showed small but statistically significant improvement with application of the DIBH technique. Conclusion: We report that the use of DIBH for right-sided breast cancer significantly reduces the radiation doses to the liver, lungs, and heart.
We study the class $C{\mathcal{V}} ({\Omega})$ of analytic functions f in the unit disk ${\mathbb{D}}=\{z{\in}{\mathbb{C}}$ : ${\mid}z{\mid}$ < 1} of the form $f(z)=z+{\sum}_{n=2}^{\infty}a_nz^n$ satisfying $$1+\frac{zf^{{\prime}{\prime}}(z)}{f^{\prime}(z)}{\in}{\Omega},\;z{\in}{\mathbb{D}}$$, where ${\Omega}$ is a convex and proper subdomain of $\mathbb{C}$ with $1{\in}{\Omega}$. Let ${\phi}_{\Omega}$ be the unique conformal mapping of $\mathbb{D}$ onto ${\Omega}$ with ${\phi}_{\Omega}(0)=1$ and ${\phi}^{\prime}_{\Omega}(0)$ > 0 and $$k_{\Omega}(z)={\displaystyle\smashmargin{2}{\int\nolimits_{0}}^z}{\exp}\({\displaystyle\smashmargin{2}{\int\nolimits_{0}}^t}{\zeta}^{-1}({\phi}_{\Omega}({\zeta})-1)d{\zeta}\)dt$$. Let $z_0,z_1{\in}{\mathbb{D}}$ with $z_0{\neq}z_1$. As the first result in this paper we show that the region of variability $\{{\log}\;f^{\prime}(z_1)-{\log}\;f^{\prime}(z_0)\;:\;f{\in}C{\mathcal{V}}({\Omega})\}$ coincides wth the set $\{{\log}\;k^{\prime}_{\Omega}(z_1z)-{\log}\;k^{\prime}_{\Omega}(z_0z)\;:\;{\mid}z{\mid}{\leq}1\}$. The second result deals with the case when ${\Omega}$ is the right half plane ${\mathbb{H}}=\{{\omega}{\in}{\mathbb{C}}$ : Re ${\omega}$ > 0}. In this case $CV({\Omega})$ is identical with the usual normalized class of convex univalent functions on $\mathbb{D}$. And we derive the sharp upper bound for ${\mid}{\log}\;f^{\prime}(z_1)-{\log}\;f^{\prime}(z_0){\mid}$, $f{\in}C{\mathcal{V}}(\mathbb{H})$. The third result concerns how far two functions in $C{\mathcal{V}}({\Omega})$ are from each other. Furthermore we determine all extremal functions explicitly.

This article describes a study of chemical vapor deposition (CVD) of copper thin films on TiN substrates using (HFAC)Cu(DMB) as a precursor. The surface morphology and conformality of the Cu films as functions of substrate temperature and the presence or absence of iodine have been investigated. The surface roughness was increased significantly along with decrement of the step coverage by increasing the deposition temperature. The highest conformal films with the lowest surface roughness were obtained using the process of copper CVD, where iodine vapor were discretely introduced into the reactor during the growth of copper.

For the far field radiation pattern of a microstrip array antenna which is conformed to a cylindrical surface and forms an arc array, an approximate analysis method using FOURIER TRANSFORM is presented. In this method, the conformal array antenna is projected on the effective aperture plane and assumed to be an aperiodic array with nonlinear phase tilt. The effective aperture plane includes four end-points of each arc on the cylindrical surface. When the effective aperture ratio which is normalized to the planar type is from 1.0 to 0.9, it is confirmed that this approximate method is valid. To the array on the effective aperture plane, it is assumed that the phase tilt is due to the distance between aperture plne and curvature surface. Specially, when the radius of arc is more than 5 times to its length, the FOURIER TRANSFORM METHOD could be used with only varying scale factors. The results of calculating by approximate method are good agreement with the results of COORDINATE TRANSFORM METHOD and experimentally measured value in the range of -40dB. And, the difference of half power angle is less than 5 degrees when the effective aperture ratio moer than 0.9.

The use of functionally graded materials (FGMs) may enhance thermal conductivity without reducing the desired strength in many applications such as injection molds embedding conformal cooling channels and cutting tools with heat sinks (or cooling devices). As a fundamental study for cutting tools having FGM heat sinks between M2 tool steel and Cu, six FGM specimens (M2 and Cu powders were premixed such that the relative compositions of M2 and Cu were 100:0, 80:20, 60:40, 40:60, 20:80, and 0:100 wt%) were fabricated by powder metallurgy in this study. The cross sections of these specimens were observed by optical microscopy, and then the material properties (such as thermal conductivity, specific heat, and coefficient of thermal expansion) related to heat transfer were measured and analyzed.

Purpose : When the value of X,Y,Z coordination of the isocenter are reallocated from an arbitrary point using DRR (Digitally Reconstructed Radiographs) image in CT Simulation, conventional simulation is normally performed to verify the accuracy of this reallocation of the isocenter through the fluroscopy. The purpose of our experiment is to determine whether repeated test of the verification is necessary or not, and to analyze errors of reallocation with respect to the body region and the beam projection, if necessary, Material and Method : For 200 simulation patient, an arbitrary point is marked on each body and axial scaning is performed using CT, and treatment planing is done by drawing tumor and target volume on each slice. Using the planing data and the reallocated point of the isocenter, DRR image can be obtained and the final isocenter are marked on the patient's skin. In order to verify this reallocation of X,Y.Z coordination from CT simulation, We measure and evaluate the errors of these value on the fluoroscopy monitor and systematize them by classifying according to each body region (Brain, Neck and SCL, Lung, Esophagus, abdomen, Breast and Pelvis) and each beam projection {AP(PA), Supine, Prone and conformal : etc. } Conclusion : Isocenters are shifted by 3-5 mm in the case of Neck & SCL, Breast. at Abdomen, while noticeable differences are not found in other regions. Also, there are not correlations between the errors and the body regions or beam projections. However, our experiment intends to decide whether the procedure of verification is necessary on the vase of time and economy. It is regretful that we could not fully analyze the geometrical errors of DRR image and visual errors from the divergence. In conclusion, according to how much doctor consider tumor margin in drawing tumor and target volume, the meaning of analysis on the reallocation of isocenter should be reinterpreted, (which depends on the experience and capability of doctors)

Small size and low profile antenna for mobile vehicular-top-mounted is needed in satellite communication services such as DBS, Satellite Internet and VSAT. In middle latitudes, the development of an array antenna which has the conformal, low profile and 45 degree beam tilted configuration, and has the high gain with sharp beamwidth, low sidelobe and low loss is required for Ku-band satellite communication. In this paper, in order to meet with these performances, an array antenna consisting of the vertical polarized waveguide longitudinal slots based on the leaky-wave mode of traveling wave antenna is proposed. An array antenna consisting of 16 leaky-wave elements is showing 30 dBi of gain, 4.9 degree of beamwidth, below than -20 dB of sidelobe level, 45 degree of beam tilt angle in center frequency. Feed network designed by waveguide cooperated feed shows good performance of wideband and low loss.
