유방암 환자와 배우자의 갈등해결방식과 부부친밀도 및 가족기능 (Conflict Resolution Styles, Marital Intimacy and Family Functions of Breast Cancer Patients and Their Spouses)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore conflict resolution styles, marital intimacy and family functions among breast cancer patients and their spouses. Methods: The subjects were total 126 participants. Breast cancer patients who completed chemotherapy and or radiation along with their spouses. Data were collected using questionnaires with questions about conflict resolution styles, marital intimacy and family functions. Results: There were no differences between breast cancer patients and their spouses in verbal aggression, avoidance of conflict resolution styles and family functions. As patients reported using positive conflict resolution styles the spouse-perceived marital intimacy and family functions were higher. Those patients who perceived marital intimacy as lower they also reported more verbal aggression and avoidance. As breast cancer patients perceived family functions increasing, their spouses perception of both intimacy and family function increased. Conclusion: As these results, it should be considered as basic data to develop family intervention programs such as positive communication and effective stress management and improving of conflict resolution, intimacy and family functions among breast cancer patients and their spouses.

다문화부부의 성격특성과 갈등대처방식의 상호작용이 부부적응에 미치는 효과 (Influences of Personality Patterns on Marital Adjustment by Interacting with Conflict Resolution Styles)

  • This study seeks to determine how personality patterns on marital adjustment are influenced by interacting with conflict resolution styles. Data for this study were collected from intermarriage couples comprising 293 pairs (586 patients) who lived in Korea for at least 5years. Snowball sampling was carried out from August to October 2011. SPSS 18.0 was used to analyze the collected data. The results of this study are as follows: (a) The conscientiousness and openness of personality patterns turned out to be common personality factors that represent a positive affect on the intermarried couples' effort to adapt. (b) The extroversions, agreeableness, and neuroticism shown significantly increase and decrease the intermarried husband's marital adjustment, but the same did not have a significant influence on the intermarried wife's marital adjustment. (c) Factors that affect marital adjustment, the conflict resolution styles of intermarriage couples showed different results depending on the gender. (d) The Intermarried wife's personality patterns represented a positive affect on her marital adjustment by interacting with her husband's conflict resolution styles, while the intermarried husband's personality patterns represented a positive affect on his marital adjustment by interacting with his wife's conflict resolution styles. The implications of this study will be discussed in the conclusion.

부와 모의 갈등해결양식이 청소년의 욕설사용에 미치는 영향: 공격성의 매개역할 (The Influence of Mother's and Father's Conflict Resolution Styles on Adolescents' Use of Swear Words: The Mediating Role of Aggression)

  • 본 연구에서는 부와 모와의 갈등해결양식(공격적 절충적)이 청소년의 욕설사용에 미치는 영향과 부와 모와의 갈등해결양식과 청소년의 욕설사용과의 관계에서 공격성이 매개효과가 있는지를 알아보고자 하였다. 본 연구를 수행하기 위해 G도의 3개시 소재 6개 학교 중학생 570명을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였으며, 최종적으로 477부를 선정하여 연구 자료로 사용하였다. 주요 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 모와의 공격적 갈등해결양식이 청소년의 욕설사용에 정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 부와 모와의 갈등해결양식과 청소년의 욕설사용과의 관계에서 공격성이 매개효과를 가지는 지에 대해서 알아본 결과, 부와 모의 공격적 갈등해결양식과 욕설사용과의 관계에서 공격성이 매개효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 청소년과 부모사이의 갈등이 적절하게 해결되지 못하면 공격성을 축적시켜서 욕설사용이 증가되는 것으로 볼 수 있다. 본 연구결과는 청소년과 부와 모와의 공격적 갈등해결양식이 공격성을 상승시키는 방식을 통하여 간접적으로 청소년의 욕설사용을 촉발함을 확인하였다는 데에 그 의의가 있으며, 이 결과가 현재 사회의 큰 문제가 되고 있는 학교폭력과 연관 될 수 있는 청소년 자녀의 욕설사용을 감소시킬 수 있는 부모교육 프로그램의 개발의 기초자료로 활용 될 수 있기를 기대한다.

초등학생의 성별, 문화성향과 친구간 갈등해결전략 (Gender, Cultural Disposition and Peer Conflict Resolution Strategies of Elementary School Children)

  • In this study, characteristics of cultural disposition and peer conflict resolution strategies and the relationship between cultural dispositions and peer conflict resolution strategies of elementary school children were investigated. In order to achieve this research purpose, the following research questions were established. First, what are the characteristics of cultural dispositions that children have? Second, what are the characteristics of conflict resolution strategies that children use? Third, what are the relationships between cultural dispositions and peer conflict resolution strategies? The subjects of this study were 564(283 male and 281 female) 5th and 6th graders. Research instruments used to collect data were INDCOL and Conflict Resolution Strategy Scale. Collected data were analyzed using Descriptives, t-test, Pearson's Correlation Coefficient, Cross-tabs and Two-way ANOVA. As a whole, children strongly showed collectivistic pattern and there were no sex differences in terms of cultural dispositions. The distributions of styles were in the order of HC>VI>VC>HI. The distribution of conflict resolution strategies generally were in the order of integrating and compromising>Avoiding>Dominating>Obliging for total sample and there were significant sex differences in the styles of conflict resolution strategies. This study also found that there were significant correlations between cultural dispositions and conflict resolution strategies. integrating/compromising and dominating style were different according to cultural dispositions but there were no interactive effect of sex and cultural dispositions in conflict resolution strategies. Finally, the implications of this study on theory and practice were discussed and suggestions for further study were made.

부부관계유형과 판별요인에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Marriage Types and It′s Discriminant Variables)

  • The purposes of this study are as follows: (1) how are marital relationships classified by wives' perception of marital conflict and intimacy? (2) how do these types differ in terms of demographic variables (age, income, educational level, and employment status), individual psychological variables (self-esteem, differentiation) and interaction-related variables (affective self-disclosure, conflict resolution styles)?, and what are the relative discriminant powers of these variables in explaining marriage types? The data for this study were collected from 944 married women in Dajeon, who had one or more children, using the structured questionnaire. Classification using median and discriminant analysis were used with SPSS-PC for windows program. The major findings are as follows: The characteristics of each type are as follows: (1) The 'devitalized couples' consist of 18.2% of the whole sample. The levels of positive self-concept and positive interaction are the lowest. (2) The 'intimate couples' consist of 32.6% of the sample. They tend to be found most frequently in the population which is high in the educational level and income level and low in age. While the levels of positive self-concept and positive interaction are the highest, the levels of negative conflict resolution styles are the lowest. (3) The 'intimacy-persuaded couples' take 17.3% of the sample. The levels of positive self-concept and interaction are similar to the 'intimate couples'. (4) The 'conflict-habituated couples' take 31.9% of the sample. Whereas the levels of negative conflict resolution styles are the highest, the levels of positive self-concept and positive interaction are the lowest. The results of this study suggest several implications for the family-life education. It needs to apply different approaches to improve marital quality for each type of marriage.

조직원의 성격유형에 따른 갈등관리방식의 차이가 조직커뮤니케이션 만족에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 (A Study about the Effects of Organizational Members' Personality Types and Conflict Resolution Styles on the Organizational Communication Satisfaction)

  • 이 논문은 조직원의 성격유형에 따른 갈등관리방식의 차이와 조직커뮤니케이션 만족도의 관계를 알아보았다. 또한 조직원들의 다양한 개인적 속성(성별, 경력, 직위, 조직규모 등)이 이런 관계에 어떻게 영향을 미치는지 알아봄으로써, 조직커뮤니케이션 만족에 대한 보다 종합적이고 진전된 연구결과를 도출하고자 하였다. 분석결과, 조직원의 성격유형 중에서 사고표명도만이 갈등관리방식에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 감정 차원보다는 의견 표명의 차원, 곧 자신의 의견을 적극적으로 표명하는지의 여부가 조직커뮤니케이션 만족도와 직접적으로 관련있는 변인이었다. 조직원의 개인적 속성 중에서는 직위와 성별 차이가 갈등관리방식의 선호에 영양을 미치는 변인이었다. 조직커뮤니케이션 만족에 상대적으로 큰 영향을 미치는 요인은 조직원의 개인적 속성보다는 갈등관리방식 차이였다. 조직커뮤니케이션을 업무와 관계의 차원으로 나누었을 때, 관계적 커뮤니케이션 만족도에는 문제해결, 타협의 갈등관리방식이, 업무적 커뮤니케이션 만족도에는 이들 외에 비난과 강요 방식이 유의미한 관계가 있었다. 조직커뮤니케이션 만족도에 영향을 미치는 다양한 변인들 중에서 가장 큰 관계가 있는 것은 문제해결의 갈등관리방식이었다. 갈등상황에서 적극적으로 문제를 해결하는 방식을 선호하는 조직원일수록 관계와 업무의 구분과 상관없이 조직커뮤니케이션에 대한 만족도가 높았다. 이런 연구결과는 조직원의 성격유형을 파악하는 것뿐 아니라, 이에 따른 갈등관리 스타일과 업무 성격의 일치 여부가 조직성과 관리에서 중요하다는 사실을 시사하고 있다. 마지막으로 이 연구는 분석 자료의 제한점과 후속연구를 위한 제언을 제시하였다.

The Moderating Role of Emotional Intelligence on the Relationship Between Conflict Management Styles and Burnout among Firefighters

  • Background: While the organizational factors that account for firefighters' burnout have been extensively explored, the individual factors related to how they regulate interpersonal conflicts and emotions remain to be investigated. Previous research has demonstrated the association between emotional intelligence and conflict management styles and burnout, but no study has looked at the interrelationships among these factors in high-risk sectors. The present exploratory study aimed to fill this research gap by investigating the relationships between conflict management style, emotional intelligence and burnout in a sample of firefighters. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted with 240 French firefighters. Measures comprised validated scales of conflict management styles, emotional intelligence and burnout. Results: Results showed that the integrating conflict style reduced burnout. They also revealed the effects of emotion regulation on burnout, whereby the awareness and management of one's own emotions reduced burnout. Moreover, awareness of one's own emotions moderated the relationship between integrating conflict resolution style and burnout, whereby the effect of integrating style on reduced burnout was higher when awareness of one's own emotions was high. Conclusion: These results reveal that strategies used by firefighters to regulate their emotions in order to meet the emotional demands specific to their job are important for reducing the emotional exhaustion component of burnout. Training programs for conflict and emotion management are needed to preserve the mental health of firefighters and ensure the safety of interventions.

Cultural Aspect of Conflict Behaviour in Construction -A Case Study from Turkey

  • Although much research has been conducted to identify the influence of culture on conflict management and resolution behaviours in organizational settings, no study has been done yet in the construction industry particularly in considering the influence of individual level individualistic and collectivistic values. Despite the key role of self-construal in explaining or predicting behaviour in interpersonal conflict, it has not received enough attention in construction management. Reflecting this necessity, the objective of this exploratory study was to establish, through the application of the Rahim Organizational Inventory (ROC II) instrument, how the cultural values of professionals of construction businesses relate to the application of different conflict-handling styles through self-construal. Data were collected using questionnaire surveys from construction professionals working in contracting firms. The findings illustrate the importance of self-construal type as an individual-level cultural variable in explaining the differences in the style of handling interpersonal conflict in the context of the construction industry.

  • 본 연구는 청소년기의 고등학생들을 대상으로 이들의 갈등관리유형을 또래간의 관계를 중심으로 파악하고, 이같은 갈등유형이 성격 5요인, 자아존중감, 및 자기감시와 어떤 관계가 있는지 살펴보았다. 먼저 성격 5요인이 갈등관리스타일에 어떠한 영향을 미치는가를 살펴 본 결과 친화성, 성실성, 외향성, 개방성이 높을수록 협력전락을 더 많이 사용하는 것으로 나타났다. 반면 신경불안증이 높고, 친화성과 외향성이 낮을수록 공격전략을 더 많이 구사하는 것으로 드러났다. 성실성, 외향성, 개방성이 낮고 신경불안증이 높을수록 회피전략을 더 많이 사용하는 것으로 밝혀졌다. 또한 자아존중감과 자기감시가 청소년의 갈등관리스타일에 어떠한 영향을 미치는가를 살펴본 결과 자아존중감이 높을수록 협력전략을 더 많이 사용하는 반면 공격전략과 회피전략은 더 적게 표출하는 것으로 나타났다. 자기감시 정도가 높을수록 갈등상황에서 협력전략을 더 많이 사용하는 반면 회피전략은 더 적게 행사하는 것으로 분석되었다.

  • 권력의 과정을 알아보기 위해 부부권력(전통권력, 평등권력, 개인권력), 영향력전략(보상, 강요, 감정전략), 부정적 갈등해결방식(공격과 회피)의 관계를 이론적 모형으로 설정하였고 남성과 여성의 모형을 비교하였다. 지방에 거주하는 남성 182명과 여성 196명의 자료를 구조방정식모형 검증 방식으로 분석하였다. 분석결과, 첫째, 남녀모델에서 3개의 공통경로가 발견되었다. 감정전략이 증가할수록 공격과 회피가 증가하였다. 그리고 평등권력이 증가할수록 보상이 증가하였다. 둘째, 남녀 모두 평등권력이 강요에 영향을 미치지만, 그 영향은 상반되는 것으로 나타났다. 즉, 남성의 평등권력은 강요를 감소시키나, 여성의 평등권력은 강요를 증가시키는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 남녀모형에서 많은 차이점이 발견되었다. 결과를 토대로 이론적 함의와 부정적 갈등해결방식의 사용을 감소시키는 방안을 제시하였다.
