High Strength Concrete (HSC) has weakness that in a fire, it is spalled and brittles. The phenomenon of spalling is made by water vapor's being confined in watertight concrete. This study is aimed to evaluate explosive spalling properties of high strength concrete with ${\square}100{\times}100{\times}200$ mm specimen and ${\square}400{\times}400{\times}1500$ mm column. To prevent spalling of concrete, fireproof coating and PP fiber are used. As a result, ${\square}400{\times}400{\times}1500$ mm column was prevented spalling likes ${\times}100{\times}100{\times}200$ mm specimen. When concrete protected failure to explosive spalling, quantity heat ratio (which fireproof coating specimen to pp fiber mixed specimen) between ${\square}100{\times}100{\times}200$ mm and ${\square}400{\times}400{\times}1500$ mm was maximum value at 20 minute, but difference of quantity heat ratio decreased and quantity heat ratio of each specimen is almost same at 30 minute.
^ x Super flowing concrete causes high strength and the increase of heat of hydration because of the big unit powder content of concrete to increase flowability and to improve compact of concrete. Therefore, this study investigates the characteristic properties of strength, flowability, durability and drying shrinkage to control strength and to reduce heat of hydration of super flowing concrete using crushed stone fines. According to the experimental results, when crushed stone fines are increased every 10%, 10~15% of compressive strength is decreased and flowability of super flowing concrete is effectively improved due to the decrease of modulus of deformation and confined water ratio. When crushed stone fines are replaced every 10%, 4$^{\circ}C$ of the highest adiabatic temperature rise is decreased by reducing the unit cement. However, 5% of drying shrinkage is increased in the same condition. In the meantime, durability of super flowing concrete is excellent, having over 90 % of good relative dynamic modulus of elasticity due to fineness of formation caused by the increase of the unit powder content and the improvement of flowability, without regard to the replacement of crushed stone fines. Therefore, it can be said that the usage of crushed stone fines can control the strength of super flowing concrete by replacement and reduce heat of hydration.

Natural ground is a composite consisted of the three phases of water, air and soil paircies. Among the three components, water as a material is weU understood but soil particles are not in foundation engineering. Especially, weathered granite soil generally shows a large volumetric expansion when they freeze. And, the stability and durability of the soil have shown decreased with repetitive freezing and thawing processes. These unique charcteristics may cause various construction and management problems if the soil is used as a construction material and foundation layers. This project was initiated to investigate the soil's physical and engineering characteristics resulting from freezing and freezing-thawing processes. Research results may be used as a basic data in solving various problems related to the soil's unique characteristics. The following conclusions were obtained: The degree of decomposition of weathered granite soil in Kangwon-do was very different between the West and East sides of the divide of the Dae-Kwan Ryung. Soil particles distributed wide from very coarse to fine particles. Consistency could be predicted with a function of P200 as LL=0.8 P200+20. Permeability ranged from 10-2 to 10-4cm/sec, moisture content from 15 to 20% and maximum dry density from 1.55 to 1.73 g /cmΥ$^3$ By compaction, soil particles easily crushed, D50 of soil particles decreased and specific surface significantly increased. Shear characteristics varied wide depending on the disturbance of soil. Strain characteristics influenced the soil's dynamic behviour. Elastic failure mode was observed if strain was less than 1O-4/s and plastic failure mode was observed if strain was more than 10-2/s. The elastic wave velocity in the soil rapidly increased if dry density became larger than 1.5 g /cm$^3$ and these values were Vp=250, Vg= 150, respectively. Frost heave ratio was the highest around 0 $^{\circ}C$ and the maximum frost heave pressure was observed when deformation ratio was less than 10% which was the stability state of soil freezing. The state had no relation with frost depth. Over freezing process was observed when drainage or suction freezing process was undergone. Drainage freezing process was observed if freezing velocity was high under confined pressure and suction frost process was occurred if the velocity was low under the same confined process.

To classify the surface sedimentary facies using IKONOS image collected over Hwangdo tidal flat in Cheonsu Bay, the optical reflectance was compared for characterizing various sedimentary environments such as grain size, tidal channel pattern and area ratio of surface remnant water. The intertidal DEM (Digital Elevation Model) was generated by echo-sounder for analyzing the relationship between IKONOS image and sedimentary environments including topography. The boundary of the optical reflectance between mud-mixed facies and sand facies was distinct, and discrimination of the associated sandbar feature was also possible. The mud-mixed facies coupled with intricate tidal channels is confined to the relatively hi호 topography of Hwangdo tidal flat. The boundary between mud and mixed flat was indistinct in IKONOS optical reflectance but it would have a difference in the area ratio of surface remnant water. The dark area in the image represented the well developed sand facies having a lot of surface remnant water due to the relatively low surface topography. The overall accuracy of characterizing the surface sediment facies by maximum likelihood classification method was 86.2 %. These results demonstrate that high spatial resolution satellite imagery such as IKONOS coupled with knowledge of grain size, surface remnant water and tidal channel network can be effectively used to characterize the surface sedimentary facies (mud, mixed and sand) network of the tidal flat environments.

This research is to examine the selected method of optimal mixing proportion and cost analysis in the super flowing concrete. As confined water $ratio($\beta_p$)$ and K is introduced, itis to establish optimal mixing design of super flowing concrete according to the steps of paste, mortar and concrete. From paste and mortar test, it was led to $$\beta_p$$ and $K_p$satisfying the optimum condions depending on the kinds of binders. Then $$\beta_p$$ and $K_p$ is reflected to the mix condition of super flowing concrete. The result of test, the mix condition of super flowing concrete satisfied the quality performance of concrete with adjustment of additional rate of the superplasticizer. Besides, in case of design strength $350kg/\textrm{cm}^2$ of concrete, material cost in super flowing concrete is able to be reduced 5~16% in replacement of fly ash 30% in ordinary portland cement and slag cement.

High Strength Concrete (HSC) has weakness that in a fire, it is spalled and brittles. The phenomenon of spalling is made by water vapor's (resulting from evaporation in the material at over $100{^{\circ}C}$)' being confined in watertight concrete. As the concrete strength increases, the degree of damage caused by the spalling becomes more serious because of the permeability. It is reported that the polypropylene(PP) fiber has an important role in protecting concrete from spalling and the optimum dosage of PP fiber is 0.2%. This study was conducted on the nonreinforced concrete specimens. The high-temperature behavior of high-strength reinforced concrete columns with various concrete strength and various dosage of PP fibers was investigated in this study. The results show that the ratio of unstressed residual strength of columns increases as the concrete strength increases and the ratio of unstressed residual strength of columns increases as the dosage of PP fiber increases from 0% to 0.2%, however, the effect of fiber dosage on residual strength of column barely changes above 0.2%.

Gas-liquid contact tests above a perforated-plate were conducted with air and water at flooding gas-flow conditions in order to study two-phase flow characteristics in a limestone-gypsum SO2 absorber. Gas layers were in the form of air pockets and confined to the limited areas around each duct pipe, while the remaining tary area were in the wet condition. The liquid above the tray was always in the flooded and even fluidized conditions at gas flows over the range studied, although vigorous bubbly or churn-turbulent two-phase regime was only observed in the immediate vicinity of the gas hole exit at low gas loads. The froth zone was extremely active to provide intimate contact between gas and liquid so that the necessary mass transfer operation can take place, which is the primary purpose of high-performance SO2 absorbers. Howefer, the absorber $\Delta$P was 250mmH2O for the initial water level at 150mm, which is an important issue to be resolved for economical operation of the SO2 absorber. It was seen in the liquid level-and gas flow-transient tests that changes in the absorber liquid inventory were much more pronounced for intimate gas-liquid contact than changes in the gas flow. Based on the 4- and 8-duct pipe test results, grouping the duct pipes near the center of the test tray seemed to promote better recirulation of liquid from gas-liquid contact zone back to the reaction tank so that the absorbed SO2 can be neutralized.
The examination of the pollutants originated from domestic sewage, industrial and agricutural activities the existences of some toxic heavy metals, organic matters and pathogenic microorganisms. A recent report of WHO brought out that such pollutants are in existence with above roughly 2,000 kinds of chemical substances and amongst them about 750 chemicals have been indentified by drinking water. And above 600 kinds of them are organic pollutants and in addition these include carcinogenic mutagenic and poisonous substances. This is not intended to embody a study of broad confined to various approaches on organic materials, and therefore will be THM produced on injection of chlorine at water filtration plant. To specify the relations between THM and factors having an effect upon THM such as TOC, Cl$_{2}$, Temperature, pH and reaction time, first of all the recovery ratio for analytical methods of THM (Head sapce, purge and trap, Liquid/ Liquid Extraction methods) was investigated. Provided that by using it,the correction coefficients are obtained, the accuracy of data might be able to be enhanced through analysis. The result of the experiments are given in the followings. 1) Among three kinds of analytical methods, recovery rate was higher in order of purge and trap Liquid/Liquid Extraction, Head space. There is no great difference in recovery rate among three methods. 2) The higher the concentration of TOC, the more the amount of THM. 3) The higher the reaction temperature, the more the amount of THM. 4) The longer the reaction time, the more the amount of THM. 5) The higher the pH, the more the amount of THM. 6) The higher the concectration of chlorine, the more the amount of THM.
Background: In 2006, three farmers died at the bottom of an agricultural shallow well where the atmosphere contained only 6% oxygen. This study aimed to document the variability of levels of oxygen and selected hazardous gases in the atmosphere of wells, and to identify ambient conditions associated with the low-oxygen situation. Methods: A cross-sectional survey, conducted in June 2007 and July 2007, measured the levels of oxygen, carbon monoxide, hydrogen sulfide, and explosive gas (percentage of lower explosive limit) at different depths of the atmosphere inside 253 wells in Kamphaengphet and Phitsanulok provinces. Ambient conditions and well use by farmers were recorded. Carbon dioxide was measured in a subset of wells. Variables independently associated with low-oxygen condition (<19.5%) were identified using multivariate logistic regression. Results: One in five agricultural shallow wells had a low-oxygen status, with oxygen concentration decreasing with increasing depth within the well. The deepest-depth oxygen reading ranged from 0.0% to 20.9%. Low levels of other hazardous gases were detected in a small number of wells. The low-oxygen status was independently associated with the depth of the atmosphere column to the water surface [odds ratio (OR) = 13.5 for 8-11 m vs. <6 m], depth of water (OR = 0.17 for 3-<8 m vs. 0-1 m), well cover (OR = 3.95), time elapsed since the last rainfall (OR = 7.44 for >2 days vs. <1 day), and location of well in sandy soil (OR = 3.72). Among 11 wells tested, carbon dioxide was detected in high concentration (>25,000 ppm) in seven wells with a low oxygen level. Conclusion: Oxygen concentrations in the wells vary widely even within a small area and decrease with increasing depth.
