  • Purpose: Prefabricated modular space such as a container construction has recently been interested unlike the conventional construction method, and their scale have expanded from small buildings such as cafes, houses and pensions to shopping centers, complex cultural spaces where shows and exhibitions are possible doing. In this way, the container is in the spotlight as an advantage such as mobility, flexibility, correspondence, economic efficiency, recyclability and so on. However, there are no specific guidelines and standard design methods in aspects of structural calculation, functional insulation and environmental configuration. Therefore, as the first step to resolve these problems, this study has focused on the field of environmental performance of container construction, presented appropriate guidelines and searched ways to improve performances. Method: For this study, seven types of the modular building were chosen and compared, and their energy performances have been analyzed using a proven simulation tool. Essential methodology and terminology were examined to estimate and judge their efficiency. Result: In conclusion, energy performances depend on specific configuration of combined unit spaces, and design guidelines cold be set up for promoting their use in the practical field.

  • In present study, a supersonic inlet for dual mode ramjets or RBCC/TBCC engines with a wide range of flight Mach numbers is designed. A conical variable inlet configuration is chosen for the inlet design. Geometric relations with angles of compression cones and conical shock waves are used for the design of the inlet configuration. The performance of the supersonic inlet is confirmed by the numerical analysis. The capture area ratio is maintained around 100% from Mach 3 to 8 conditions.

  • Regenerative evaporative cooling is known as an environment-friendly and energy efficient cooling method. A regenerative evaporative cooler (REC) consisting of dry and wet channels is able to cool down the air stream below the inlet wet-bulb temperature. In the regenerative evaporative cooler, the cooling effect is achieved by redirecting a portion of the air flown out of the dry channel into the wet channel and spraying water onto the redirected air. In this study, a horizontal regenerative cooler is considered. In the horizontal regenerative cooler, the flow direction of evaporating water has a right angle to the flow direction of supply air. This difference was investigated with visualization technique and simplified 2-module performance test was done in a thermo-environment chamber. Optimum design configuration is changed due to the wet channel which are easily fully covered with evaporating water and block the air flow inside the channel. Applying the optimized fin configuration design with the highly wetting surface treatment, a regenerative evaporative cooler was fabricated and tested to Identify the cooling performance improvement and operation characteristics. From the experimental results at the intake condition of $32^{\circ}C$ and 50% RH, the supply temperature was measured to be around $23.4^{\circ}C$. The cooling effectiveness based on the inlet dewpoint temperature was evaluated 73% which is almost close to the design expectation.

  • The TRIGA fuel of the Philippine Research Reactor-1 (PRR-1) will be used in a subcritical reactor assembly (SRA) to strengthen and advance nuclear science and engineering expertise in the Philippines. SRA offers a versatile and safe training and research facility since it can produce neutrons through nuclear fission reaction without achieving criticality. In this work, we used a geometrically detailed model of the PRR-1 TRIGA fuel to design a subcritical reactor assembly and calculate physical parameters of different fuel configurations. Based on extensive neutron transport simulations an SRA configuration is proposed, comprising 44 TRIGA fuel rods arranged in a $7{\times}7$ square lattice. This configuration is found to have a maximum $k_{eff}$ value of $0.95001{\pm}0.00009$ at 4 cm pitch. The SRA is characterized by calculating the 3-dimensional neutron flux distribution and neutron spectrum. The effective delayed neutron fraction and mean neutron generation time of the system are calculated to be $748pcm{\pm}7pcm$ and $41{\mu}s$, respectively. Results obtained from this work will be the basis of the core design for the subcritical reactor facility that will be established in the Philippines.

  • In this paper, we studied the optimal method of improving performance for aircraft having various variants within the same type. The study defined configuration of an entire fleet of aircraft being subject to a performance improvement program. And selected the most complicated aircraft configuration among them as a Standard Aircraft for modification by according to the proposed Aircraft Selection Process for developing an optimal Aircraft Performance Improvement Process. Based on the selected the Standard Aircraft, drew a system integration design result and carried out Evaluation Test and obtained Airworthiness Certification. Created the database with the design data of the Standard Aircraft, Evaluation Test, and Airworthiness Certification results, and applied it to variants of aircraft to complete the performance improvement program with optimized schedules and costs. By applying the proposed method to IFF performance improvement program, drew optimal system integration design and completed the program with minimized schedule.

  • Recently, demand for smart factories is increasing in response to the era of the 4th industrial revolution. Smart factory is basically a manufacturing industry based on massive data, which requires IT services for processing a lot of data, which is accelerating the construction of data centers. Data center computing equipment requires a different approach from the cooling technology of general facilities in terms of heat load and usage time. This study investigates the factors to be reviewed in the recent data center cooling system design and technological change trends, compares and reviews various technological methods for facility configuration of case companies, derives the design decision process, and draws up a conceptual design corresponding to the conclusion.

  • This paper presents a basic methodology and a set of numerical tools for the preliminary design of solid-fueled ramjet missiles. An elementary code determines the baseline system configuration comprised of warhead, guidance-control, and propulsion masses and geometries from specific correlations found in the literature. Then, the system is refined with the help of external and internal ballistics codes. Equations of motion are solved for the flight's ascending, cruising, and descending stages and the internal ballistic set of equations designs the ramjet engine based on liquefying fuels. The combined tools sized the booster and the ramjet sustainer engines for a long-range missile, intended to transport 200 kg of payload for more than 300 km range flying near 14,000 m altitude at Mach 3.0. The refined system configuration had 600 mm in diameter and 8,500 mm in length with overall mass of 2,128 kg and 890 kg/m3 density. Ramjet engine propellant mass fraction was estimated as 74%. Increased missile range can be attained with paraffin-polyethylene blend burning at near constant regression rate through primary air mass flow rate control and lateral 2-D air intakes.

  • A software package CARDS for general purpose robot design, control, and simulation has been developed and is presented here. CARDS (Computer Aided Robot Design and Simulation) consists of a collection of standardized subroutine modules that carry out typical kineamatic, dynamic, and control computations so that the user only needs to write a main program that further defines a particular robot configuration and the task to be performed. It provides users a complete simulation environment, so that it will be a valuable engineering tool for mechanical designers as well as electric control designers.

  • In this study, a problem formulation and solution for design optimization of laminate composite cylindrical beam section is presented. The objective of this research is to determine the optimal dimension of the laminated composite cylindrical beam sections which has the equivalent flexural rigidities to those of the steel cylindrical beam sections. The analytical model is based on the laminate theory and accounts for the material coupling for arbitrary laminate stacking sequence configuration. The outer diameter and thickness of the beam are design variables. The solutions described are found using a global search algorithm, Genetic Algorithms (GA).
