Nerve conduction studies (NCS) are the most objective measure of nerve function and essential for the diagnosis of sub-clinical neuropathy in diabetes mellitus and diabetic polyneuropathy (DPN). This study evaluates the characteristic of electrophysiological abnormalities in DPN. Electrodiagnostic data from 120 patients with diabetic polyneuropathies and 77 control subjects were reviewed. Motor nerve conduction velocities (MNCV), distal motor latencies (DML), compound muscle action potential (CMAP) amplitudes, No potential frequency and conduction block were analyzed. Data were normalized based on normative reference values, and the proportion of nerves with abnormal values in the lower and upper limbs were evaluated. DPN was systemic demyelinating peripheral polyneuropathy and more severe abnormal nerve conduction was found in lower limbs than in upper limbs. The abnormal degree was more severe in peroneal nerve. It was no statistically significant difference of conduction block in control and DPN group. Our findings suggest that DPN had more common and severe peroneal nerve involvement in the motor nerve conduction studies (MNCS). These findings have important implications for the electrophysiological evaluation of DPN.

The state-space average model is extended to buck-boost, and buck-boost topology switching mode DC/DC converters and modified to have higher precision without increment of computation. The modified model is used in continuous conduction mode(CCM) switching DC/DC converters and some significant conclusions are derived. This paper discusses the discontinuous conduction mode(DCM) modeling of DC/DC converter and critical characteristic using average model of switch. Average model of switch approach is expended to the modeling of boundary conduction mode DC/DC converters that operate at the boundary between continuous conduction mode(CCM) and discontinuous conduction mode(DCM). Frequency responses predicted by the average model of switch are verified by simulation and experiment. A prototype featuring 15[V] input voltage, 24[V] output voltage, and 24[W] output power using MOSFET.
A measurement of conduction veloctiy of the action potentials along the muscle fibres has been applied to various diagnosis. When we measure muscle fiber conduction velocity, it occurs that not only change of conduction velocity but alos inclusion of mipulse component by physiological and experimental reason. So, robuster time delay estimation algorithm than general methods[1] is needed to find correct time delay form these signals. In this paper we, propose new time delay estimation algorithms, robust in impulsive noise, by using characteristic of .alpha.-stable distribution whcih defines impulsive noise well. Then we apply proposed algorthms to measure muscle fiber conduction velocity and compare them with other studies.
In order to investigate the electrical conduction properties of polyethylene thin film for power cable with manufacturing methods, the thickness of specimen was the 30, 100[${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$] of LDPE and 200[${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$] of XLPE were manufactured. The experimental condition for conduction properties was measured until the breakdown occurs at temperature ranges from 30 to 110[$^{\circ}C$] and the electric field from 1$\times$10$^3$to 5$\times$10$^{6}$ [V/cm]. As for increase of temperature, the current density of LDPE was increased with constant ratio in low field, but changes with exponential function in high electric field. The tunnel current of pre-breakdown region is shifted toward low field as much as thermal excitation energy. At low electric field, the XLPE showed dominant electrical conduction properties by thermal excitation, and transformation of the electron was resisted by the crystal at high electric field.

With circular tube heated directly or indirectly placed in a cross flow, heat flows circumferentially by conduction due to the asymmetric nature of the fluid flow around the perimeter of the circular tube. The circumferential heat flow affects the wall temperature distribution to such an extent that in some cases. The effects of circumferential wall heat conduction on local convective heat transfer is investigated. The wall heat conduction parameter which can be deduced from the governing energy equation should be used to express the effect of circumferential heat conduction. Two-dimensional temperature distribution is presented through the numerical analysis. The comparison of one-dimensional and two-dimensional solutions is demonstrated on graph of local Nusselt numbers.
In this study, a novel Cu composite sheet with embedded high electric conduction path was developed as another alternative for the interconnect materials possessing high electrical conductivity as well as high strength. The Cu composite sheet was fabricated by forming Ag conduction paths not within the interior but on the surface of a high strength Cu substrate by damascene electroplating process. As a result, the electrical conductivity increased by 40% thanks to mesh type Ag conduction paths, while the ultimate tensile strength decreased by 20%. The interfacial fracture resistance of Cu composite sheet prepared by damascene electroplating increased by above 50 times compared to Cu composite sheet by conventional electroplating. For feasibility test for practical application, a leadframe for LED module was manufactured by a progressive blanking and piercing processes, and the blanked surface profile was evaluated as a function of the volume fraction of Ag conduction paths. As Ag conduction path became finer, pressing formability improved.

The space charge and conduction characteristics of chemically modified vinylpyridine (VP) grafted low density polyethylene (LDPE) was investigated. VP grafted LDPE was analyzed by elemental analysis (EA) to confirm the grafting reaction. Homocharge was developed in VP grafted LDPE at low graft ratios and changed to heterocharge with increasing the content of VP. In conduction experiment, current densities of VP grafted LDPE were lower than that of LDPE and VP grafted LDPEs showed almost the same conduction characteristics as vinylpyridine graft ratio increased
Grain-boundary conduction in the fluorite-structure solid oxide electrolytes such as acceptor-doped zirconia and ceria were reviewed. The siliceous impurity, even several hundreds ppm, affects the ionic conduction across grain boundary to a great extent. Various approaches to improve grain-boundary conduction in fluorite-structure oxide electrolytes have been investigated, which include (1) the scavenging of siliceous phase by the reaction with second phase, (2) the gathering of intergranular siliceous phase into a discrete configuration and (3) the dewetting of intergranular liquid phase by post-sintering heat treatment.
The wave nature of heat conduction has been developed in situations involving extreme thermal gradients, very short times, or temperatures near absolute zero. Under the excitation of a periodic surface heating in a finite medium, the hyperbolic and parabolic heat conduction equations and the damped wave equations in heat flux are presented for comparative analysis by using the Green's function with the integral transform technique. The Kummer transformation is also utilized to accelerate the rate of convergence of these solutions. On the other hand, the temperature distributions are obtained through integration of the energy conservation law with respect to time. For hyperbolic heat conduction, the heat flux distribution does not exist throughout all the region in a finite medium within the range of very short times(${\xi}<{\eta}_l$). It is shown that due to the thermal relaxation time, the hyperbolic heat conduction equation has thermal wave characteristics as the damped wave equation has wave nature.

We present a case with stepwise weakness and sensory involvement of both hands for more than 2 months. His nerve conduction study findings revealed prolonged terminal latencies, decreased motor and sensory conduction velocities and conduction blocks of both ulnar nerves, more severely on left side. And there were other abnormalities manifested with mononeuropathy multiplex. Increased cerebrospinal fluid protein was found. We diagnosed him as Lewis-Sumner syndrome and tried high dose oral steroid therapy for 2 months. He showed improvement of motor functioning with persistent conduction block.
