The fundamental issues to evaluate machine tool's performance through simulation pertain to the physical models of the machine tool itself and of process while the practical problems are related to the development of the modular software structure. It allows the composition of arbitrary machine/process models along with the development of programs to evaluate each state of machining process. Surface roughness is one of the fundamental factors to evaluate machining process and performance of machine tool, but it is not easy to evaluate surface roughness due to its tribological complexity. This paper presents an algorithm to calculate surface roughness considering cutting geometry, cutting parameters, and contact dynamics of cutting between tool and workpiece as well as tool wear in turning process. The designed virtual machining system can be used to evaluate the surface integrity of a turned surface during the design and process planning phase for the design for manufacturability analysis of the concurrent engineering.
Petri nets is a widely used formalism for specification and analysis of concurrent systems which is a subclass of discrete event systems. The DEVS (Discrete Event System Specification) formalism provides a general framework for specification of discrete event systems in a hierarchical, modular form. Often, modeling a discrete event system may employ both Petri Nets and DEVS formalism. In such a case low-level operational logics are modeled by Petri Nets and high-level managements by the DEVS formalism. Analysis of the system requires simulation of the overall system. This paper presents an algorithm for transformation of Petri Nets to DEVS formalism. The transformation enables modelers to simulate an overall system, which consists of DEVS models and Petri Nets models, in a unified DEVS simulation environment such as DEVSim++. An example for such transformation will be given.

This paper considers a new routing problem, successive max-min connection ratio problem (SMCRP), arised in circuit telecommunication networks such as SONET and WDM optical transport network. An optimization model for SMCRP is established based on link-flow formulation. It's first optimization process is an integral version of maximum concurrent flow problem. Integer condition does not give the same connection-ratio of each node-pair at an optimal solution any more. It is also an integral multi-commodity flow problem with fairness restriction. In order to guarantee fairness to every node-pair the minimum of connection ratios to demand is maximized. NP- hardness of SMCRP is proved and a heuristic algorithm with polynomial-time bound is developed for the problem. Augmenting path and rerouting flow are used for the algorithm. The heuristic algorithm is implemented and tested for networks of different sizes. The results are compared with those given by GAMS/OSL, a popular commercial solver for integer programming problem.n among ferrite-pearlite matrix, the increase in spheroidal ratio with increasing fatigue limitation, 90% had the highest, 14.3% increasing more then 70%, distribution range of fatigue.ife was small in same stress level. (2) $\sqrt{area}_{max}$ of graphite can be used to predict fatigue limit of Ductile Cast Iron. The Statistical distribution of extreme values of $\sqrt{area}_{max}$ may be used as a guideline for the control of inclusion size in the steelmaking.
A network model and a Genetic Algorithm (GA) is proposed to solve the simultaneous estimation of the trip distribution and traffic assignment from traffic counts in the congested networks in a logit-based Stochastic User Equilibrium (SUE). The model is formulated as a problem of minimizing a non-linear objective function with the linear constraints. In the model, the flow-conservation constraints are utilized to restrict the solution space and to force the link flows become consistent to the traffic counts. The objective of the model is to minimize the discrepancies between two sets of link flows. One is the set of link flows satisfying the constraints of flow-conservation, trip production from origin, trip attraction to destination and traffic counts at observed links. The other is the set of link flows those are estimated through the trip distribution and traffic assignment using the path flow estimator in the logit-based SUE. In the proposed GA, a chromosome is defined as a real vector representing a set of Origin-Destination Matrix (ODM), link flows and route-choice dispersion coefficient. Each chromosome is evaluated by the corresponding discrepancies. The population of the chromosome is evolved by the concurrent simplex crossover and random mutation. To maintain the feasibility of solutions, a bounded vector shipment technique is used during the crossover and mutation.
Compared with the previous recovery algorithms for causal message logging, Elnozahy's recovery algerian considerably reduces the number of stable storage accesses and enables live processes to execute their computations continuously while performing its recovery procedure. However, if causal message logging is used with asynchronous checkpointing, the state of the system may be inconsistent after having executed this algorithm in case of concurrent failures. In this paper, we show these inconsistent cases and propose a low-cost recovery algorithm for causal message logging to solve the problem. To ensure the system consistency, this algorithm allows the recovery leader to obtain recovery information from not only the live processes, but also the other recovering processes. Also, the proposed algorithm requires no extra message compared with Elnozahy's one and its additional overhead incurred by message piggybacking is significantly low. To demonstrate this, simulation results show that the first only increases about 1.0%$\sim$2.1% of the recovery information collection time compared with the latter.

This paper proposes a fast direction of arrival (DOA) estimation algorithm that can rapidly estimate incidence angles of incoming signals using a pseudo covariance matrix. The conventional subspace DOA estimation methods such as MUSIC (multiple signal classification) algorithms need many sample signals to acquire covariance matrix of input signals. Thus, it is difficult to estimate the DOAs of signals because they cannot perform DOA estimation during receiving sample signals. Also if the D0As of signals are changing rapidly, conventional algorithms cannot estimate incidence angles of signals exactly. The proposed algorithm obtains bearing response and directional spectrum after acquiring pseudo covariance matrix of each snapshot. The incidence angles can be exactly estimated by using the bearing response and directional spectrum. The proposed DOA estimation algorithm uses only concurrent snapshot so as to obtain covariance matrix. Compared to conventional DOA estimation methods. The proposed algorithm has an advantage that can estimate DOA of signal rapidly.

Clustering is a technique which is used to measure similarities between data in big data analysis and data mining field. Among various clustering methods, k-Modes algorithm is representatively used for categorical data. To increase the performance of iterative-centric tasks such as k-Modes, a distributed and concurrent framework Spark has been received great attention recently because it overcomes the limitation of Hadoop. Spark provides an environment that can process large amount of data in main memory using the concept of abstract objects called RDD. Spark provides Mllib, a dedicated library for machine learning, but Mllib only includes k-means that can process only continuous data, so there is a limitation that categorical data processing is impossible. In this paper, we design RDD for k-Modes algorithm for categorical data clustering in spark environment and implement an algorithm that can operate effectively. Experiments show that the proposed algorithm increases linearly in the spark environment.

Content distribution to a large number of concurrent clients stresses both server and network. While the server limitation can be circumvented by deploying server clusters, the network limitation is far less easy to cope with, due to the difficulty in measuring and balancing network load. In this paper, we use two useful network load metrics, the worst link stress (WLS) and the degree of interference (DOI), and formulate the problem as partitioning the clients into disjoint subsets subject to the server capacity constraint so that the WLS and the DOI are reduced for each session and also well balanced across the sessions. We present a network load-aware partition algorithm, which is practicable and effective in achieving the design goals. Through experiments on PlanetLab, we show that the proposed scheme has the remarkable advantages over existing schemes in reducing and balancing the network load. We expect the algorithm and performance metrics can be easily applied to various Internet applications, such as media streaming, multicast group member selection.

In this paper, we investigate the multi-resource allocation problem, a unique feature of which is that the multiple resources can compensate each other while achieving the desired system performance. In particular, power and time allocations are jointly optimized with the target of energy efficiency under the resource-limited constraints. Different from previous studies on the power-time tradeoff, we consider a multi-server case where the concurrent serving users are quantitatively restricted. Therefore user selection is investigated accompanying the resource allocation, making the power-time tradeoff occur not only between the users in the same server but also in different servers. The complex multivariate optimization problem can be modeled as a variant of 2-Dimension Bin Packing Problem (V2D-BPP), which is a joint non-linear and integer programming problem. Though we use state decomposition model to transform it into a convex optimization problem, the variables are still coupled. Therefore, we propose an Iterative Dual Optimization (IDO) algorithm to obtain its optimal solution. Simulations show that the joint multi-resource allocation algorithm outperforms two existing non-joint algorithms from the perspective of energy efficiency.

MDO (multidisciplinary design optimization) technology has been proposed and applied to solve large and complex optimization problems where multiple disciplinaries are involved. In this research. an MDO problem is defined for automobile design which has crashworthiness analyses. Crash model which are consisted of airbag, belt integrated seat (BIS), energy absorbing steering system .and safety belt is selected as a practical example for MDO application to vehicle system. Through disciplinary analysis, vehicle system is decomposed into structure subspace and occupant subspace, and coupling variables are identified. Before subspace optimization, values of coupling variables at given design point must be determined with system analysis. The system analysis in MDO is very important in that the coupling between disciplines can be temporary disconnected through the system analysis. As a result of system analysis, subspace optimizations are independently conducted. However, in vehicle crash, system analysis methods such as Newton method and fixed-point iteration can not be applied to one. Therefore, new system analysis algorithm is developed to apply to crashworthiness. It is conducted for system analysis to determine values of coupling variables. MDO algorithm which is applied to vehicle crash is MDOIS (Multidisciplinary Design Optimization Based on Independent Subspaces). Then, structure and occupant subspaces are independently optimized by using MDOIS.
