Steel-concrete-steel sandwich composite wall is composed of two external steel plates and infilled concrete core. Internal mechanical connectors are used to enhance the composite action between the two materials. In this paper, the compressive behavior of a novel sandwich composite wall was studied. The steel trusses were applied to connect the steel plates to the concrete core. Three short specimens with different truss spacings were tested under compressive loading. The boundary columns were not included. It was found that the failure of walls started from the buckling of steel plates and followed by the crushing of concrete. Global instability was not observed. It was also observed that the truss spacing has great influence on ultimate strength, buckling stress, ductility, strength index, lateral deflection, and strain distribution. Three modern codes were introduced to calculate the capacity of walls. The comparisons between test results and code predictions show that AISC 360 provides significant underestimations while Eurocode 4 and CECS 159 offer overestimated predictions.
The paper presents an innovative steel moment frame with the replaceable reinforced concrete wall panel (SRW) structural system, in which the replaceable concrete wall can play a role to increase the overall lateral stiffness of the frame system. Two full scale specimens composed of the steel frames and the replaceable reinforced concrete wall panels were tested under the cyclic horizontal load. The failure mode, load-displacement response, deformability, and the energy dissipation capacity of SRW specimens were investigated. Test results show that the two-stage failure mode is characterized by the sequential failure process of the replaceable RC wall panel and the steel moment frame. It can be found that the replaceable RC wall panels damage at the lateral drift ratio greater than 0.5%. After the replacement of a new RC wall panel, the new specimen maintained the similar capacity of resisting lateral load as the previous one. The decrease of the bearing capacity was presented between the two stages because of the connection failure on the top of the replaceable RC wall panel. With the increase of the lateral drift, the percentage of the lateral force and the overturning moment resisted by the wall panel decreased for the reason of the reduction of its lateral stiffness. After the failure of the wall panel, the steel moment frame shared almost all the lateral force and the overturning moment.
Prefabricated exterior wall panel is the main non-load-bearing component of assembly building, which affects the comprehensive performance of thermal insulation and durability of the building. It is of great significance to develop new prefabricated exterior wall panel with durable and lightweight characteristics for the development of energy-saving and assembly building. In the prefabricated sandwich insulation hanging wall panel, the selection of material for the outer layer and the arrangement of the connector of the inner and outer wall layers affect the mechanical performance and durability of the wall panels. In this paper, high performance cement-based composites (HPFRC) are used in the outer layer of the new type wall panel. FRP bars are used as the interface connector. Through experiments and analysis, the influence of the arrangement of connectors on the mechanical behaviors of thin-walled composite wall panel and the panel with window openings under two working conditions are investigated. The failure modes and the role of connectors of thin-walled composite wallboard are analyzed. The influence of the thickness of the wall layer and their combination on the strain growth of the control section, the initial crack resistance, the ultimate bearing capacity and the deformation of the wall panels are analyzed. The research work provides a technical reference for the engineering design of the light-weight thin-walled and durable composite sandwich wall panel.

The structural safety of nuclear power plant against impact from aircraft crash has been performed so far in two viewpoints such as local behavior and global behavior, and the local behavior has been evaluated using local damage evaluation formulas suggested based on the results of experimental data of RC (Reinforcement Concrete) wall. However, few data have been collected from recent research to evaluate the local behavior and damage of SC (Steel plate reinforced Concrete) wall, which is recently applied to the newly designed nuclear power plant. In this study, local damages of SC wall and RC wall against an idealized aircraft engine projectile impact are evaluated through FE simulation analyses with various wall thicknesses and steel ratio. Through analysis of local collision simulation results of SC and RC wall, the penetration depth of SC wall and RC wall are compared.

The use of recycled aggregate concrete is increasing faster than the development of appropriate design recommendations. This paper is making advances in the recycling of waste concrete material for use as recycled aggregate to make secondary concrete product. Using recycled aggregates from demolished concrete, we manufactured concrete blocks to experiment overall performance in feasible performances. This paper reports limited experimental data on the structural performance of shear wall used concrete blocks made in recycled aggregates. Reinforced concrete frame and shear walls were tested to determine their diagonal cracking and ultimate shear behavior. The variable in the test program was the existence of infilled wall used concrete blocks Made in recycled aggregates. Based on the experimental results, Infilled wall has a high influence on the maximum strength and initial stiffness of reinforced concrete frame. Structural performance of specimen WSB1 and WSB2 is quite different from RCF specimen, particularly strength, stiffness and energy dissipation capacity.

Seismic capacity of reinforced concrete bearing wall subjected to high axial loading and moment can be attained by improving the deformability of compression zone or by reducing the neutral axis depth. For this two existing options for ductility enhancement were reviewed and improved to conveniently apply to the seismic improvement of compression zone of the wall: (1) end confinement of concrete due to transverse steel and (2) boundary element.

In this study a computer program considering initial imperfection of wall of axisymmetric reinforced concrete shell which show plastic deformation by large external loading is developed. initial imperfection of wall of axisymmetric reinforced concrete shell is assumed as sinusoidal curve expressed as {{{{ {W }_{i } }}}}={{{{ {W}_{0 } }}}}sin (n$\pi$y/$\ell$)y. The developed program is applied to the analysis of the dynamic response of axisymmetric reinforced concrete shell when the wall has initial imperfection. The initial imperfection of 0.0 -5.0, and 5cm and steel ratio 0.3, and 5% are tested for numerical examples. The effects of the wall initial imperfection and steel ratio on the dynamic response of the axisymmetric reinforced concrete shell are analysed, It is shown that the direction of the initial imperfection is very important factors for determining the dynamic response.

Reinforced concrete (RC) shear walls with precast steel-concrete composite modular (PSCCM) are strongly recommended in the structural design of nuclear power plants due to the need for a large number of process pipeline crossings and industrial construction. However, the effect of the PSCCM on the mechanical behavior of the whole RC shear wall is still unknown and has received little attention. In this study, three 1:3 scaled specimens, one traditional shear wall specimen (TW) and two shear wall specimens with the PSCCM (PW1, PW2), were designed and investigated under cyclic loadings. The failure mode, hysteretic curve, energy dissipation, stiffness and strength degradations were then comparatively investigated to reveal the effect of the PSCCM. Furthermore, numerical models of the RC shear wall with different PSCCM distributions were analyzed. The results show that the shear wall with the PSCCM has comparable mechanical properties with the traditional shear wall, which can be further improved by adding reinforced concrete constraints on both sides of the shear wall. The accumulated energy dissipation of the PW2 is higher than that of the TW and PW1 by 98.7 % and 60.0 %. The failure of the shear wall with the PSCCM is mainly concentrated in the reinforced concrete wall below the PSCCM, while the PSCCM maintains an elastic working state as a whole. Shear walls with the PSCCM arranged in the high stress zone will have a higher load-bearing capacity and lateral stiffness, but will suffer a higher risk of failure. The PSCCM in the low stress zone is always in an elastic working state.

Reinforced concrete shear walls are effective for resisting lateral loads imposed by wind or earthquakes. Observed damages of the shear wall in recent earthquakes in Chile(2010) and New Zealand(2011) exceeded expectations. Various analytical models have been proposed in order to incorporate such response features in predicting the inelastic response of RC shear walls. However, the model has not been implemented into widely available computer programs, and has not been sufficiently calibrated with and validated against extensive experimental data at both local and global response levels. In this study, reinforced concrete shear walls were modeled with fiber slices, where cross section and reinforcement details of shear walls can be arranged freely. Nonlinear analysis was performed by adding nonlinear shear spring elements that can represent shear deformation. This analysis result will be compared with the existing experiment results. To investigate the nonlinear behavior of reinforced concrete shear walls, reinforced concrete single shear walls with rectangular wall cross section were selected. The analysis results showed that the yield strength of the shear wall was approximately the same value as the experimental results. However, the yielding displacement of the shear wall was still higher in the experiment than the analysis. The analytical model used in this study is available for the analysis of shear wall subjected to high axial forces.
The paper represents an optimization algorithm for reinforced concrete retaining wall design. The proposed method, called Rao-3 optimization algorithm, is a recently developed algorithm. The total weight of the steel and concrete, which are used for constructing the retaining wall, were chosen as the objective function. Building Code Requirements for Structural Concrete (ACI 318-05) and Rankine's theory for lateral earth pressure were considered for structural and geotechnical design, respectively. Number of the design variables are 12. Eight of those express the geometrical dimensions of the wall and four of those express the steel reinforcement of the wall. The safety against overturning, sliding and bearing capacity failure were regarded as the geotechnical constraints. The safety against bending and shear failure, minimum and maximum areas of reinforcement, development lengths of steel reinforcement were regarded as structural constraints. The performance of proposed algorithm was evaluated with two design examples.
