  • The synthetic fibers such as polypropylene(PP) and polyvilyl-alcohol(PVA) fiber are poised as a low cost alternative for reinforcement in structural applications. It has been reported that synthetic fiber in cement composites can control restrained tensile stresses and cracks and increase toughness, resistance to impact, corrosion, fatigue and durability. High performance fiber reinforced cementitious composite(HPFRCCs) shows ultra high ductile behavior in the hardened state, because of the fiber bridging properties. Therefore, a variety of experiments have being performed to access the performance of HPFRCCs recently. The research emphasis is on the flexural behavior of HPFRCCs made in synthetic fibers, and how this affects the composite property, and ultimately its strain-hardening performance. Three-point bending tests on HPFECCs are carried out. As the result of the bending tests, HPFRCCs showed high flexural strength and ductility. HPFRCCs made in PVA or Hybrid fiber were, also, superior to PP of singleness. On the other hand, effect of sand volume fraction on HPFRCCs made in PP was insignificant.

  • This paper presents the results of an investigation on the compressive strength and weight loss of mortars containing three types of fillers as cement replacements; Limestone Filler (LF), Silica Fume (SF) and Trass (TR), subjected to elevated temperatures including $400^{\circ}C$, $600^{\circ}C$, $800^{\circ}C$ and $1000^{\circ}C$. Results indicate that addition of TR to blended cements, compared to SF addition, leads to higher compressive strength and lower weight loss at elevated temperatures. In order to model the influence of the different parameters on the compressive strength and the weight loss of specimens, artificial neural networks (ANNs) were adopted. Different diagrams were plotted based on the predictions of the most accurate networks to study the effects of temperature, different fillers and cement content on the target properties. In addition to the impressive RMSE and $R^2$ values of the best networks, the data used as the input for the prediction plots were chosen within the range of the data introduced to the networks in the training phase. Therefore, the prediction plots could be considered reliable to perform the parametric study.

  • The synergistic interactions of supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs) with ordinary portland cement (OPC) in multi-blended systems could enhance the mechanical and durability properties of concrete and increase the amount of cement that can be replaced. In this study, the characteristics of the hydration products as well as paste microstructure of blended cement containing 20% coal fly ash, 10% rice hull ash and 10% sugar mill lime sludge in quaternary blended system was investigated. Portlandite content, hydration products, compressive strength, pore size distribution and microstructural architecture of hydrated blended cement pastes were examined. The quaternary blended cement paste showed lower compressive strength, reduced amount of Portlandite phases, and higher porosity compared to plain hardened cement paste. The interaction of SCMs with OPC influenced the hydration products, resulting to the formation of ettringite and monocarboaluminate phases. The blended cement paste also showed extensive calcium silicate hydrates and calcium aluminate silicate hydrates but unrefined compared to plain cement paste. In overall, the expected synergistic reaction was significantly hindered due to the low quality of supplementary cementitious materials used. Hence, pre-treatments of SCMs must be considered to enhance their reactivity as good quality SCMs can become limited in the future.

  • Bridge bearings are devices absorbing the displacements of the superstructure. Elastomeric bearings used generally as bridge bearings absorb the displacements of the superstructure using their rubber characteristics. Elastomeric bearings should make sure their shear fatigue performance not to impede the durability of bridge system. In this paper shear fatigue tests were performed and stiffness were measured through the shear fatigue tests. Tests results show the measured stiffness of elastomeric bearings have no specific tendency. This paper found that elastomeric bearings show bad shear performance or fail early if elastomeric bearings are manufactured with a doublefold elastomeric layer.

  • In this study, as to enhance the efficiency and workability, binder contained 3 types of gels have been used to replacement the OPC. Fundamental properties and length change of the concrete have been tested to evaluate the effect of different binders. The following results could be made as the conclusion. When the binder contained 3 types of gels used, the flowability increased, whereas the air content decreased. There showed some different air content when the component of binder changed but the difference was consider as limit. For the strength properties, with the using of binder contained 3 types of gels increased the strength. Specimen of FA20SF5 showed the better strength and lower length change of drying shrinkage than other specimens.

  • The hydration of cement contributes to the performance characteristics of concrete, such as strength and durability. In order to improve the utilization efficiency of cement and its early properties, the particle size distribution (PSD) of cement varies considerably, and the effects of the particle size distribution of cement on the hydration process should be considered. In order to evaluate effects of PSD separately, experiments testing the isothermal heat generated during the hydration of cements with different particle size distributions but the same chemical composition have been carried out. The measurable hydration depth for cement hydration was proposed and deduced based on the experimental results, and a PSD hydration model was developed in this paper for simulating the effects of particle size distribution on the hydration process of cement. First, a reference hydration rate was derived from the isothermal heat generated by the hydration of ordinary Portland cement. Then, the model was extended to take into account the effect of water-to-cement ratio, hereinafter which was referred to as PSD hydration model. Finally, the PSD hydration model was applied to simulate experiments measuring the isothermal heat generated by the hydration of cement with different particle size distributions at different water-to-cement ratios. This showed that the PSD hydration model had simulated the effects of particle size distribution and water-to-cement ratio on the hydration process of cement with satisfactory accuracy.

  • Various installation faults may lie in fasteners in the construction of a direct-fixation track by the top-down method. At an extreme, they may cause excessive interaction between the train and track, compromise the running safety of the train, and cause damage to the track components. Therefore, the faults need to be kept within the allowable level through an investigation of their effects on the interactions between the train and track. In this study, the vertical dynamic stiffness of fasteners in installation faults was measured based on the dynamic stiffness test by means of an experimental apparatus that was devised to feasibly reproduce gap faults. This study proposes an effective analytical model for a train-track interaction system in which most elements, except the nonlinear wheel-rail contact and some components that behave bi-linearly, exhibit linear behavior. To investigate the effect of the behavior of fasteners in gap faults in a direct-fixation track on the vehicle and track, vehicle-track interaction analyses were carried out, targeting key review parameters such as the wheel load reduction factor, vertical rail displacement, rail bending stress, and mean stress of the elastomer. From the results, it was noted that the gap faults in the concrete bearing surface of a direct-fixation track need to be limited for the sake of the long-term durability of the elastomer than for the running safety of the train or the structural safety of the track.

  • The effective reinforcement methods of structure is required to improve the durability of existing structures. Recently, the continuous fiber sheets to the concrete structures are widely used in the earthquake-proof reinforcement method. This study examines suitability and effect to concrete structure of fiber by FEM analysis. The result of analysis is as follows; All specimens occurred bending tensile failure at the middle span. Ultimate strength of specimen in the RC and reinforced RC specimen were 53.9 kN, 56.3 kN respectively and it was some low by degree 0.89, 0.82 to compare with calculated result. The deflection of specimen at the middle span occurred in approximately 0.2 mm, and did linear behavior in load 20 kN by seat reinforcement. Stiffness did not decrease by occurrence in the finer crack and reinforcement beam's flexure stiffness was increased until reach in failure. To compare calculated value and analysis value, it almost equal behavior in the elastic reign and can confirm effectiveness of analysis. Crack was distributed uniformly by reinforcement of fiber seat at failure and it do not occurred stiffness decreases.
