The main purpose of this study is to investigate the dynamic behaviour of containment building in nuclear power plant excited by aircraft impact loading using a lower order 8-node solid element. The yield and failure surfaces for concrete material model is formulated on the basis of Drucker-Prager yield criteria and are assumed to be varied by taking account of the visco-plastic energy dissipation. The standard 8-node solid element has prone to exhibit the element deficiencies and the so-called B bar method proposed by Hughes is therefore adopted in this study. The implicit Newmark method is adopted to ensure the numerical stability during the analysis. Finally, the effect of different levels of cracking strain and several types of aircraft loading are examined on the dynamic behaviour of containment building and the results are quantitatively summarized as a future benchmark.

Eight small scale circular reinforced concrete columns (4.5 aspect ratio) were tested under cyclic lateral load with constant axial load. The selected test variables are longitudinal steel ratio (2.017%, 3.161%), transverse steel ratio, and axial load ratio (0, 0.07, 0.15). Volumetric ratio of spirals of all the columns is 0.335~0.894% in the plastic hinge region. It corresponds to 39.7~122.3% of the minimum requirement of confining steel by Korean Bridge Design Specifications, which represent existing columns not designed by the current seismic design specifications or designed by seismic concept. The final objectives of this study are to provide quantitative reference data and tendency for performance or damage assessment based on the performance levels such as cracking, yielding, steel fracture, etc. In this paper, describes mainly failure behavior, strength degradation behaviour, displacement ductility of circular reinforced concrete bridge columns with respect to test variables.
Incorporation of wastes glass aggregate in mortar may cause crack and this may result in the strength reduction due to alkali-silica reaction(ASR) and expansion. The purposes of this study were to investigate the properties of alkali-silica expansion and strength loss through a series of experiments which had a main experimental variables such as waste glass aggregate contents, glass colors, fiber types, and fiber contents. The steel fibers and polypropylene fibers were used for constraining the ASR expansion and mortar cracking. From the result, green waste glass was more suitable than brown one because of low expansion. And in this accelerated ASTM C 1260 test of waste glass, pessimum content can not be found. Also, when used the fibers with waste glass, there is an effect on reduction of expansion and strength loss due to ASR between the alkali in the cement paste and the silica in the waste glass. Specially, adding 1.5 vol.% of steel fiber to 20% of waste glass, the expansion ratio was reduced by 40% and flexural strength was developed by up to 110% comparing with only waste glass(80$\^{C}$ H$_2$O curing).

Direct tensile response of strain hardening cement composites(SHCC) depends primarily on the material's tensile response, which is a water cement ratio, direct function of fiber and matrix characteristics, the bond between them, and the fiber volume fraction. This paper discusses effect of aspect ratio of the direct tensile response of SHCC with PET and PVA fibers. The main variables considered include the aspect ratio of PET fibers(Aspect ratio, ${\ell}/d_f$ : 150, 300, 600). For the same mixture proportion, PET1.5+PVA0.5-300 and PET1.5+PVA 0.5-600(Aspect ratio 300, 600) showed better overall behavior(Pseudo strain-hardening, Multiple cracking) than specimens with PET1.5+PVA0.5-150(Aspect ratio 150). Tensile strain of PET1.5+PVA0.5-300 and PET1.5+PVA 0.5-600 at ultimate tensile stress were 0.5, 2.0% respectively.

An engineered cementitious composite (Engineered Cementitious Composite) had been developed in previous study. Theoretical prediction of the tensile stress-strain relation of ECC is important in providing the material constitutive relation necessary for designing structural members. But, few studies have been reported with regard to predicting the tensile stress-strain relation of ECC. Prediction of the tensile stress-strain relation of ECC accounting for actual bridging curve, such as fiber dispersion is needed. The present study extends the work as developed by Kanda et al., by modeling the bridging curve, accounting for fiber dispersion, the degree of matrix spalling, and fiber rupture to predict the tensile stress-strain relation of ECC. The role of material variation in the bridging curve, such as number of effective fiber actually involved in the bridging capacity and how it affects the multiple cracking process is discussed. The approach for formulating the tensile stress-strain relation is discussed next, where the procedure for obtaining the necessary parameters, such as the crack spacing, is presented. Finally, the predicted stress-strain relation will be validated with experimental tests results.

Expansion joint is the essential element of the bridge in many cases. When the bridge faces chloride of preventing freezing on the surface of the bridge, the expansion joints is damaged significantly, thus this reduces service life and increases maintenance cost of the bridge. As a solution of this problem, new technology using high ductile materials for the joint without expansion joint was developed and in this research, crack control performance, preventing leaking after the cracking, and chloride resistance were experimentally evaluated. As a result of the experiment, with PCM and FRC materials, the connecting joint suffered poor crack dispersion and severe damage by the chloride penetration while with high-ductile material, the connecting joint dispersed the tensile deformation to microcracks stably up to 7.5mm. Furthermore, under the sever conditions, the leaking was prevented and penetration of chloride ions was prevented after the crack occurred.

Curved steel-concrete composite box girder has been widely adopted in urban overpasses and ramp bridges. In order to investigate its mechanical behavior under complicated and combined bending, shear and torsion load, two large-curvature composite box girders with interior angles of 25° and 45° were tested under static hogging moment. Based on the strain and deflection measurement on critical cross-sections during the static loading test, the failure mode, cracking behavior, load-displacement relationship, and strain distribution in the steel plate and rebar were investigated in detail. The test result showed the large-curvature composite box girders exhibited notable shear lag in the concrete slab and steel girder. Also, the constraint torsion and distortion effect caused the stress measured at the inner side of the composite beam to be notably higher than that of the outer side. The strain distribution in the steel web was approximately linear; therefore, the assumption that the plane section remains plane was approximately validated based on strain measurement at steel web. Furthermore, the full-process non-linear elaborate finite element (FE) models of the two specimens were developed based on commercial FE software MSC.MARC. The modeling scheme and constitutive model were illustrated in detail. Based on the comparison between the FE model and test results, the FE model effectively simulated the failure mode, the load-displacement curve, and the strain development of longitudinal rebar and steel girder with sufficient accuracy. The comparison between the FE model and the test result validated the accuracy of the developed FE model.

It has been well known that concrete structures exposed to acid and sulfate environments such as sewer etc. show significant decrease in their durability due to chemical attack. Such deleterious acid and sulfate attacks lead to expansion and cracking in concrete, and thus, eventually result in damage to cement mortar by forming expansive hydration products due to the reaction between cement hydration products and acid and sulfate ions. In this study, the effect of fly ash and blast furnace slag on the bond performances of structural synthetic fiber in latex modified cement mortar under sulfate environments. Fly ash and blast furnace slag contents ranging from 0 % to 20 % are used in the mix proportions. The latex modified cement mortar specimens were immersed in fresh water, 8 % sodium sulfate ($Na_2SO_4$) solutions for 28 and 50 days, respectively. Pullout tests are conducted to measure the bond performance of structural synthetic fiber from latex modified cement mortar after sulfate environments exposure. Test results are found that the incorporation of fly ash and blast furnace slag can effectively enhance the PVA fiber-latex modified cement mortar interfacial bond properties (bond behavior, bond strength and interface toughness) after sulfate environments exposure. The microstructural observation confirms the findings on the interface bond mechanism drawn from the fiber pullout test results under sulfate environments.
This paper presents an investigation on the dynamic behavior of SRC columns with built-in cross-shaped steels under impact load. Seven 1/2 scaled SRC specimens were subjected to low-speed impact by a gravity drop hammer test system. Three main parameters, including the lateral impact height, the axial compression ratios and the stirrup spacing, were considered in the response analysis of the specimens. The failure mode, deformation, the absorbed energy of columns, as well as impact loads are discussed. The results are mainly characterized by bending-shear failure, meanwhile specimens can maintain an acceptable integrity. More than 33% of the input impact energy is dissipated, which demonstrates its excellent impact resistance. As the impact height increases, the flexural cracks and shear cracks observed on the surface of specimens were denser and wider. The recorded time-history of impact force and mid-span displacement confirmed the three stages of relative movement between the hammer and the column. Additionally, the displacements had a notable delay compared to the rapid changes observed in the measured impact load. The deflection of the mid-span did not exceed 5.90mm while the impact load reached peak value. The impact resistance of the specimen can be improved by proper design for stirrup ratios and increasing the axial load. However, the cracking and spalling of the concrete cover at the impact point was obvious with the increasing in stiffness.

The performance of reinforced concrete (RC) beam specimens strengthened using a newly proposed Side Near Surface Mounted (S-NSM) technology was investigated experimentally in this work. In addition, analytical and nonlinear finite element (FE) modeling was exploited to forecast the performance of RC members reinforced with S-NSM utilizing steel bars. Five (one control and four strengthened) RC beams were evaluated for flexural performance under static loading conditions employing four-point bending loads. Experimental variables comprise different S-NSM reinforcement ratios. The constitutive models were applied for simulating the non-linear material characteristics of used concrete, major, and strengthening reinforcements. The failure load and mode, yield and ultimate strengths, deflection, strain, cracking behavior as well as ductility of the beams were evaluated and discussed. To cope with the flexural behavior of the tested beams, a 3D non-linear FE model was simulated. In parametric investigations, the influence of S-NSM reinforcement, the efficacy of the S-NSM procedure, and the structural response ductility are examined. The experimental, numerical, and analytical outcomes show good agreement. The results revealed a significant increase in yield and ultimate strengths as well as improved failure modes.
