  • As concrete ages, the surrounding environment is expected to have growing influences on the concrete. As all the impacts of the environment cannot be considered in the strength-estimating model of a nondestructive concrete test, the increase in concrete age leads to growing uncertainty in the strength-estimating model. Therefore, the variation of the model error increases. It is necessary to include those impacts in the probability model of concrete strength attained from the nondestructive tests so as to build a more accurate reliability model for structural performance evaluation. This paper reviews and categorizes the existing strength-estimating statistical models of nondestructive concrete test, and suggests a new form of the strength-estimating statistical models to properly reflect the model uncertainty due to aging of the concrete. This new form of the statistical models will lay foundation for more accurate structural performance evaluation.

  • Taking high geothermal tunnels as background, the deformation of concrete for shotcrete use was studied by simulating hot-humid and hot-dry environments in a laboratory. The research is made up by two parts, one is the influence of two kinds of high geothermal environments on the deformation of shotcrete, and the other is the shrinkage inhibited effect of fiber materials (steel fibers, polypropylene fibers, and the mixture of both) on the concrete in hot-dry environments. The research results show that: (1) in hot and humid environments, wet expansion and thermal expansion happened on concrete, but the deformation is smooth throughout the whole curing age. (2) In hot and dry environments, the concrete suffers from shrinkage. The deformation obeys linear relationship with the natural logarithm of curing age in the first 28 days, and it becomes stable after the $28^{th}$ day. (3) The shrinkage of concrete in a hot and dry environment can be inhibited by adding fiber materials especially steel fibers, and it also obeys linear relationship with the natural logarithm of curing age before it becomes stable. However, compared with no-fiber condition, it takes 14 days, half of 28 days, to make the shrinkage become stable, and the shrinkage ratio of concrete at 180-day age decreases by 63.2% as well. (4) According to submicroscopic and microscopic analysis, there is great bond strength at the interface between steel fiber and concrete. The fiber meshes are formed in concrete by disorderly distributed fibers, which not only can effectively restrain the shrinkage, but also prevent the micro and macro cracks from extending.

  • The experimental investigations into hooked-end round steel fibers (HSF) effect on the age-dependent strengths of high volume fly ash (HVFA) concrete is studied. The concrete was prepared with class F fly ash used as partial cement replacement varied from 0% to 70% on an equal weight basis. Two percentages of HSF (i.e., 0.5% and 1.5% by volume fraction) of 50 mm length were added in plain, and 50% fly ash concrete mixes. The compressive and flexural tensile strength was determined at 7, 28, 56, and 90 days. The strength results of fly ash concrete mixes with and without steel fibers were compared with the plain concrete strength. The test results indicated that the strength of fly ash concrete is comparable with the plain concrete strength and further increases with an increase in the percentage of steel fibers. The maximum flexure strength of HVFA concrete is found with 0.5% steel fibers. It is concluded that the HVFA concrete with steel fibers of 50 mm length can effectively be used in concrete construction. The analytical models are proposed to predict the age-dependent compressive and flexural tensile strength of HVFA concrete with and without HSF. The compressive and tensile strength of HVFA concrete with HSF can be predicted using these models when the 28-day compressive strength of plain concrete is known. The present study will be helpful in the design and construction of reinforced and pre-stressed concrete structures made with HVFA and HSF.

  • This paper discusses the validity of models to predict the compressive strength of concrete subjected to various temperature histories and the shortcomings of existing rate constant model and apparent activation energy concept. Based on the discussion, a modified rate constant model is proposed. The modified rate constant model, in which apparent activation energy is a nonlinear function of curing temperature and age, accurately estimates the development of the experimental compressive strengths by a few researches. Also, the apparent activation energy of concrete cured with high temperature decreases rapidly with age, but that cured with low temperature decreases gradually with age. Finally a generalized model to predict apparent activation energy and compressive strength is proposed, which is based on the regression results.

  • In this study, a mathematical model is established for prediction of chloride penetration in unsaturated cracked early-age concrete. The model is combined with models for thermo-hygro dynamic coupling of cement hydration, moisture transport and micro-structure development. Chloride permeability and water permeability at cracked early-age concrete specimens are evaluated using a rapid chloride permeability test and a low-pressure water permeability test, respectively. Then, a homogenization technique is introduced into the model to determine equivalent diffusion coefficient and equivalent Permeation coefficient. Increased chloride transport due to cracks at the specimen could be predicted fairly well by characterizing the cracks using proposed model. Proposed model is verified by comparing diffusion analysis results with test results.

  • Amount used of admixture fare is increasing for concrete economic efficiency and ability security. Security of economic efficiency and ability can expect by use of this admixture fare but is displaying a lot of problems on early age strength hold by hydrate delay relatively. Specially, in the case of construction site, concrete strength can speak that interrelation is high with mold removal of forms time. Therefore, is economical and need examination of plan that can secure robber within 3 days using admixture fare such as fly ash and blast furnace slage differential speech to secure function. In this study, adding liquid admixture within 1% of a binding agent quantity to examine these problem with physical characteristic after hardening ago specially, strength change at standard and air dry curing of observed change in priority. Air dried and water curing total strength enhancement effects appeared by thing which is in case of add test result liquid admixture by below 1% and strength deputy by passage of age could know is not big.

  • This paper was to investigate the effect of component material to cause drying shrinkage of concrete. The latin square method was used in analysis of experimental results. The experimental factor was W/C, W/A, F.M and the level was divided into four step and the be analyzed. Compressive strength was mainly dependent in W/C through 90% F-verification. Drying shrinkage was mainly dependent on W/C in warly age through the same method, but not in later age. S/A, F.M did not affect compressive strength and drying shrinkage of concrete in all age.

  • Recently, large and high-rise buildings are increasing, and accordingly, concrete weight reduction is required. Lightweight aggregate concrete can provide economic feasibility and large space, but safety can be reduced due to problems such as low strength and poor durability. Since the development of such low strength of concrete is important in the early construction stage, it is necessary to evaluate the vertical formwork demolding period at the early age. The correlation was analyzed by measuring the compressive strength and ultrasonic pulse velocity. As a result, the ultrasonic pulse rates of normal and lightweight aggregate concrete at the time of 5 MPa expression, which is the time of vertical mold deformation, were 3.07 km/s and 2.77 km/s for W/B 41, and 2.89 km/s and 2.73 km/s for W/B 33.

  • The use of fly ash in cement and concrete industries has many benefits including engineering, economic, and ecological aspects. However, it has a disadvantage of low strength development, especially at early ages. In this study, in order to overcome this problem, the early strength accelerating agent($NA_{2}$ $SO_{4}$) was selected and applied to the production of high strength concrete(HSC) containing fly ash. It was found that the compressive strength of fly ash concrete incorporating TEX>$NA_{2}$ $SO_{4}$ has greater than that of concrete containing fly ash only until 7 days after casting. From the microstructural point of view, ettringite increased and pores decreased in fly ash concrete incorporating TEX>$NA_{2}$ $SO_{4}$ , leading to the development of early age strength. It was also found that the velocity vs. strength relationship of HSC is considerably different from that of low-strength concrete(LSC). Therefore, in order to predict early age strength of HSC, a estimation equation different from that for LSC is needed.
