  • This study aims to research high school students' misconception of botanic photosynthesis and respiration, and as the measure of rectifying the misconception, to develop the teaching program based on Driver's conceptual change model, applying it to classes and observing the effect. Selected as the research subject was sixty-six students in 1st year of a highschool located in Busan who had chosen Biology Learning as discretionary subject, with their conceptual level on botanic photosynthesis and respiration researched through tests in drawing and descriptive writing. As a consequence of applying drawing as a way of classifying the levels of students' misconception on photosynthesis and respiration, many students' drawings included their misconception caused by textbooks or scientists, but after application of Driver's conceptual change model, they drew scientific drawings including the fundamental factors of botanic photosynthesis and respiration such as light, carbon dioxide, water, glucose, oxygen, leaf, chloroplast, mitochondria, stoma, and energy. Likewise, as a result of the descriptive writing test implemented for researching the students' conception on the various aspects of botanic photosynthesis and respiration, many students in the pretest showed misconception on the point of time and location at which botanic photosynthesis and respiration occur, botanic nutrient, the role of a leaf in photosynthesis, and the relation between botanic photosynthesis and respiration, but after teaching based on Driver's conceptual change model, their misconceptions on photosynthesis and respiration were rectified to a high degree.

  • Purpose: This study explores how demographic transitions with workforce implications taking place in South Korea are affecting the job market, and proposes a novel conceptual model to analyze the increased role that migrant workers will play as the changes progress in the medium term. Research design, data and methodology: A qualitative approach based on the available published data is used in order to create a conceptual model that could be used to determine the order in which job sector strata will be gradually taken over by migrant workers, as the demographic transitions will create an increasing need for workforce reforms. Results: The study determines that migrant workers will replace domestic Korean workers in a stratified manner, initially in rural areas, followed by regional cities and then in the industrial areas on the edges of big cities, and the strata can be analyzed based on a proposed four-category model to determine where the opportunities will open. Conclusion: It is possible to use a conceptual model for this phenomenon. Extensive Government planning is needed to avoid possible social exclusion problems and to determine how to keep the economies of rural and regional Korean cities economically viable while they are becoming increasingly depopulated.

  • XML has become one of the most influential standard language for representing and exchanging data on internet. However, XML itself has a ability to represent a logical structure for storing and managing data, it is inadequate to use as a conceptual modeling tool because of its complexity for representing the document structures. In this paper, we propose the graphical form of conceptual modeling techniques for representing the structure of the XML schema documents using an extended entity relationship diagram. For this, extended entity relationship model is presented for representing the XML schema structure, transformation rules are presented for transforming extended entity relationship model into XML schema document to show the completeness of the proposed model.

  • The purpose of the present study was to investigate an appropriate instructional model in order to remedy students' misconception. As hypotheses of this study, three instructional models, cognitive conflicting, hypothesis testing, and learning cycle models, on biological 'osmosis' concept were tested in 176 high school students. Results of the present study are as follows: 1. All groups used one of three instructional models showed a statistically significant improvement in conceptual change on the 'osmosis' concept between before and after the instruction. In addition, the three hypothesized instructional models were more effective in conceptual change than a traditional expository instruction. 2. There was a statistically significant difference among three experimental groups. Cognitive conflicting model and hypothesis testing model was more effective than learning cycle models. 3. An interviewing after instruction showed that students who had scientific concept on the 'osmosis' through the instruction could effectively apply the concept to other context more than students who had no scientific concept through instruction. The present study indicated that instructional model play an important role on students' conceptual change in science classroom. According to the result of this study, the instruction emphasizing students' active participation in class and scientific reasoning process is more appropriate to remedy misconception that the instruction using students' passive participation in class and expository teaching procedure. This study also indicated that students' concept acquired through instruction is one of important factors to apply it to other context.

  • In this paper, the conceptual model for bibliographic Information consistent and compatible with MARC is presented. The modeling requirements are derived from MARC-related models such as MARC21, MARCXML and MODES. To meet these requirements, this paper proposes the conceptual model based on MARC formalism. The model composed with aggregation relationships among bibliographic data elements can use semantic tags of XML. As the model can be realized into diverse structures, it will be effectively applied for the development of bibliographic information management systems. Since MARC defines only record format and has the limitations in semantic representation, the metadata system that can expand bibliographic data elements in MRAC into metadata level is strongly required.

  • Advanced ICT(Information and Communication Technology) and popularization of smart devices change our culture as well as our life style and it has changed the way of learning in education area. There have been some researches to make effective smart education systems based on ICT but few of them were designed by a solid concept of smart education. This is because there have been few researches on developing a conceptual model for smart education. The purpose of this study is to propose a conceptual model for smart education: CTLA(Creation, Teaching, Learning and Assessment) model. It includes activities of smart creation, smart teaching, smart learning, and smart assessment considering ICT environment for education and characteristics of digital natives.

  • Because of most current cadastral systems maintain 2D geometric descriptions of parcels linked to administrative records, the system may not reflect current tendency to use space above and under the surface. The land has been used in multi-levels, e.g. constructions of multi-used complex buildings, subways and infrastructure above/under the ground. This cadastre situation of multilevel use of lands cannot be defined as cadastre objects (2D parcel-based) in the cadastre systems. This trend has requested a new system in which right to land is clearly and indisputably recorded because a right of ownership on a parcel relates to a space in 3D, not any more relates to 2D surface area. Therefore, this article proposes a 3D spatial data model to represent geometrical and topological data of 3D (property) situation on multilevel uses of lands in 3D cadastre systems, and a conceptual 3D cadastral model in Korea to design a conceptual schema for a 3D cadastre. Lastly, this paper presents the results of an experimental implementation of the 3D Cadastre to perform topological analyses based on 3D Network Data Model to identify spatial neighbors.

  • Aesthetics of use for modern people can be regarded as being weighted toward universal and rational function since it has focused on an 'automation and efficiency' and 'smartness' in terms of technological and human engineering position. Thus, aesthetics of use as an individual agent has remained in minimal level. This study attempts to seek conceptual model of design regarding the behavior of users from the systematization of critical theories about the usability. To do that, 'HERTZAIN TALES' written by Anthony Dune and the concept and system of Droog Design have been used as a core standard. In line with the various experiments by artist groups such as Fluxus, Memphis group and the work of product semantics, and inherent characteristics of Droog design, which has surfaced from the 1990s, concepts that has mentioned in the Hertzain tales have been organized into main texts. By overcoming cognitive bias inherent in the material culture and by overcoming an existing usability based on immateriality and dialectic solution, the autonomy of critical design and instrumentality of Droog design have been systemized. By interpreting the design aspect of 12 pieces that have been submitted to the RE;MIND section, the core of this study, it has been confirmed that conceptual and critical design's aesthetics of use From the interpretation of the design aspect of 12 pieces that have been submitted to the RE;MIND section, the core of this study, it has been confirmed that conceptual and critical design's aesthetics of use has established the autonomy and independence of the behavior of users, created functional articulation of materials and secured new conceptual model and thus, could be an effective methodical clue for creating an emergent design.

  • Conceptual configuration and seismic performance of high-rise steel frame-brace structure are studied. First, the topology optimization problem of minimum volume based on truss-like material model under earthquake action is presented, which is solved by full-stress method. Further, conceptual configurations of 20-storey and 40-storey steel frame-brace structure are formed. Next, the 40-storeystructure model is developed in Opensees. Two common configurations are utilized for comparison. Last, seismic performance of 40-storey structure is derived using nonlinear static analysis and nonlinear dynamic analysis. Results indicate that structural lateral stiffness and maximum roof displacement can be improved using brace. Meanwhile seismic damage can also be decreased. Moreover, frame-brace structure using topology optimization is most favorable to enhance lateral stiffness and mitigate seismic damage. Thus, topology optimization is an available way to form initial conceptual configuration in high-rise steel frame-brace structure.

  • A simplified algorithm is proposed for fast estimation of the material quantities required for the construction of rubble-mound breakwaters. The proposed algorithm is able to employ only the data available at feasibility study phase such as the maximum draught of the design ship selected to transport the cargos to the harbor despite, because at the feasibility phase, information for the planned harbor is likely to be very limited. A linear-constant waterdepth model together with a proposed section configuration for the breakwaters, which is customary for harbors, is considered to calculate the quantity of materials. The numerical simulation of the wave characteristics has been verified using the recorded wave data collected by a buoy installed near the Neka harbor in Caspian Sea waters. A case study has been also applied to four harbors to validate the proposed algorithm. The estimated weights using the proposed linear-constant and multi-linear waterdepth models were compared using the bathymetry maps and layouts of these harbors. A computer program, written in QBasic language, has been developed to simulate the wave characteristics and to estimate the material quantities needed to construct a rubble-mound breakwater. The obtained results show that taking into account the acceptable accuracies normally applied to the feasibility study and conceptual design phases, the proposed algorithm is sufficiently accurate and highly effective for the conceptual estimation of materials' quantities of breakwaters in the feasibility study phase of harbor projects.
