  • This study investigated the type of fashion brand concepts and derived the components of fashion brand concepts. A total of 125 brand concept texts of women's wear brands were collected from "2012/2013 Korea Fashion Brand Annual" (S. M. Kim, 2012). A qualitative research method was employed. To investigate the types of fashion brand concepts, the texts were classified into three types such as functional, symbolic, and experiential concepts, and four complex types such as functional/symbolic, functional/experiential, symbolic/experiential, and functional/symbolic/experiential concepts. Open coding and axial coding provided the components of fashion brand concepts. The results were as follows. First, an investigation of the types of fashion brand concepts indicated differences in the types of fashion brand concepts and the types of general product brand concepts. One content of a fashion brand concept could be interpreted as more than two concept types; consequently, many fashion brand concepts did not fit the notion of the types of general product brand concept. Most fashion brand concepts simultaneously encompassed more than two types of brand concepts at once. Second, the components of fashion brand concepts consisted of 55 subjects, 7 sub-categories (physical/intrinsic product characteristics, symbolic/conceptual product characteristics, target demographics, target consumer behavior, brand capability, brand values, and brand management/marketing) and 3 categories (product, target consumer, and brand).

  • This study investigated the relationship between fashion behavior, impression management behavior, and career success. A conceptual model and hypotheses were established based on theoretical linkages between the constructs. Thereafter, empirical data were collected using a set of questionnaires. For this reason, the sample was taken from 720 office workers' who worked at 14's Korea Enterprise, 697 of which was used for an empirical analysis (sample: men over 30 years of age and more than three years continuous service). This study conducted an exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis for the validity test. Cronbach's alpha test is used for the reliability test. Moreover, PLS structural equation modeling (SEM) was employed to test hypothesized relationships in the conceptual model (SPSS 20.0 window/Smart PLS 3.0). This study shows that the proposed model is reasonably fit to the actual data. The following results were obtained from the analyses. First, fashion behavior and impression management behavior is positively related to career success. The result shows that economics of the fashion behaviors sub-types were statistically more significant to influence career success. The self-focused of the impression management behavior sub-types were more than statistically significant to influence career success. This finding has great implications to understand self-management behavior and the career success of male office workers.

  • This study examines the various responses of Chinese consumers, depending on the nationality of the fashion advertising model featured in an advertisement; it explores the effects of a congruence between self-image and advertising image (CSIAI) on consumer attitudes. This study was conducted by collecting data online; 200 samples selecting a Korean model and 200 samples selecting a Chinese model with a fashion brand were analyzed. A structural equation model confirms the conceptual framework for the influence of CSIAI on consumer attitudes and purchase intentions. The results show that the perceived CSIAI of consumers positively influences their attitude toward the advertising and the brand, and further, that advertising and brand attitudes significantly affect the purchase intention of consumers. This positive relationship is moderated by the nationality of the model. These findings suggest that the nationality of the model can serve as an important retail mix for global marketers. Other results and management implications are also discussed.

  • With the increase of using Internet in clothing shopping, the gathering of customer information based on online research is emphasized. The purposes of this paper summarized the several aspects of on-line research as new data collection methods and investigate some characteristics through reviewing extant literature on online research. We explored a conceptual model of response behavior for the purpose of the literature in a manner which enhance a deeper understanding of online response behavior. This model was focused on exchange paradigm instead of a "help-the-sponsor" approach. The proposed conceptual framework included questionnaire design, response incentive, commitment, convenience, expertise, response behavior (satisfaction and attitude), and online research performance.

  • This paper identified the source of inspiration to cooperatively design a fashion collection from US undergraduate clothing design students and addressed how to implement team-based learning strategy to conceptual clothing design in class. Data was collected from the total of 51 students in a senior clothing design course at a large 4-year university in the US. The assigned project for this class was to develop a group collection under a same theme. Each student worked with his/her team member(s) to create an outfit and the entire class worked as a group to create a cohesive collection. The study showed that the sources of inspiration for the themes/concepts came from 11categories: historic era/old Hollywood glamour, shape/line/structure/architectural, fairy tales movies, nature/abstract, circus/mysterious, occasion/place, object, designer/artist, futuristic, culture, and various movies. To implement cooperative learning strategies in the clothing design class, a total of five class presentation/discussion sessions were held for theme/concept decision, fabric decision, design decision, test garment evaluation and design modification, and final products. Throughout the design process, team-based learning strategy promoted students' engagement and participation and inspired their critical thinking skills for making decisions within a team.

  • Much of the conceptual work in the field of Corporate Social Responsibility(CSR) originated from studies that were conducted in general corporations; however, many issues were peculiar to the area of fashion brand social responsibility. The purpose of this study is to develop a scale to measure the social responsibility of fashion brands in order to establish a specific, scientifically based marketing strategy. Through a literature review that disclosed 59 items regarding CSR and results from focus group interviews and exploratory factor analyses, we developed 23 items pertaining to fashion brand social responsibility. The measurement items were organized into five dimensions: economic, legal, ethical, environmental, and philanthropic responsibility. We found the 23-item scale to have good reliability and validity. We also found that fashion brand social responsibility positively influenced brand loyalty, including repurchase intention, continuance intention, and word of mouth. Thus, strategic planning for social responsibility in regards to fashion brands is essential in order to secure loyal customers, for both domestic and foreign brands compete in the fashion market.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships among fashion orientation, shopping motivations, shopping flow experience, and purchases of fashion products. Two types of shopping motivations were employed in the study: goal-directed and experiential. A conceptual research model was developed using research variables and structural equational modeling was used to test hypotheses. Empirical results indicated that fashion orientation had a strong positive direct effect on both types of shopping motives. Experiential and goal-directed motivations both had significant influence on shopping flow experience by consumers. During this process the influence of experiential motivation on flow experience was stronger, which implies the importance of experiential motivation on shopping fashion products. In addition, shopping flow experience played an important role in fashion product purchasing. Results of this study suggest that retailers should take into consideration flow in the context of shopping.

  • Over the past few years, the fashion industry has faced numerous environmental issues and sustainability is being promoted as the key to success. This study conducted in-depth interviews with a range of stakeholders, such as designers and marketing professionals from upcycled Korean fashion brands, to examine how their sustainable values are reflected and developed through corporate activities related to planning, production, promotion, and distribution. The sustainable values inferred from the interviews were coded based on Schwartz's universal values with a view to addressing conflicts of values and promoting the sustainability of upcycled fashion brands in Korea. Through this process, the study derived universalistic, economic, and self-oriented sustainable values. The study also proposed a conceptual framework for upcycled fashion brands by discussing difficulties and limitations and offer proposals that could help the industry. The results indicate that a key driver for market success is promoting sustainable values in upcycled fashion. Finally, suggestions are offered for follow-up research that can further support sustainable practices in the fashion industry.

  • Modern fashion industry creates complex and multiple fashion by amalgamating and mixing all elements that emerged in fashion without limiting them to a specific genre. The results of study are as follows: First, with regard to the conceptual differences among poor look, anti-fashion, and resistance fashion and the background. second, As aesthetic categories of poor beauty, its image with the feeling of poorness, beggar-likeness, worthlessness, poorness, and uncleanness is divided into the beauty of moderation, deconstruction, unfinished beauty, natural beauty, and ostentatious poor beauty based on the formative characteristics and poor look. Third, Oriental and Western poor images are comparatively analyzed. The poor beauty found in Oriental fashion, which is based on Zen aesthetics, seeks loneliness, poorness, and simplicity as an empty origin and features internal meaning that expresses the purity of poor beauty itself and external form that is visualized through no decoration, no color, and asymmetry in material and composition. The poor beauty in the West features non-form of no shape, asymmetry and disharmony and the characteristic in its contents is "distortion", and the characteristic in its expression features external form of "incorrectness" and internal meaning implying modem humans' frustration, resistance to materialism, and skepticism about mechanicalism.
