  • In the present study, we propose four participating $8^{th}$ grade students' genetic decomposition of congruent transformation and investigate the role of their dragging activities while understanding the concept of congruent transformation in GSP(Geometer's Sketchpad). The students began to use two major schema, 'single-point movement' and 'identification of transformation' simultaneously in their transformation activities, but they were inclined to rely on the single-point movement schema when dealing with relatively difficult tasks. Through dragging activities, they could expand the domain and range of transformation to every point on a plane, not confined to relevant geometric figures. Dragging activities also helped the students recognize the role of a vector, a center of rotation, and an axis of symmetry.

  • This paper proposes 'Coding Unit Tree' based on quadtree efficiently with motion vector to represent splitting information of a Coding Unit (CU) in HEVC. The new international video coding, High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC), adopts various techniques and new unit concept: CU, Prediction Unit (PU), and Transform Unit (TU). The basic coding unit, CU is larger than macroblock of H.264/AVC and it splits to process image-based quadtree with a hierarchical structure. However, in case that there are complex motions in CU, the more signaling bits with motion information need to be transmitted. This structure provides a flexibility and a base for a optimization, but there are overhead about splitting information. This paper analyzes those signals and proposes a new algorithm which removes those redundancy. The proposed algorithm utilizes a type code, a dominant value, and residue values at a node in quadtree to remove the addition bits. Type code represents a structure of an image tree and the two values represent a node value. The results show that the proposed algorithm gains 13.6% bit-rate reduction over the HM-1.0.

  • Military aircrafts usually operate at the area with lots of threats such as radars and surface-to-air missiles. Aircraft also faces with the unexpected or pop-up threats. Under this environment, a safe flight path should be generated to lead a mission successful. In this paper, a new path planning algorithm is proposed to provide less dangerous flight path efficiently. Of many path planning algorithms, a potential method is considered, because it has advantages of computation efficiency and smooth path generation. Trajectory generation under the condition of maximum range is studied so that the aircraft may reach the target area without refueling. The algorithm to cope with an unexpected situation is also proposed by adopting the concept of initial direction vector, additional force, and a new mapping function. The performance of the proposed algorithms is demonstrated for SEAD (Suppression of Enemy Air Defences) mission by numerical simulation.

  • This paper considers the solution of the stochastic differential equations (SDEs) with random operator and/or random excitation using the spectral SFEM. The random system parameters (involved in the operator) and the random excitations are modeled as second order stochastic processes defined only by their means and covariance functions. All random fields dealt with in this paper are continuous and do not have known explicit forms dependent on the spatial dimension. This fact makes the usage of the finite element (FE) analysis be difficult. Relying on the spectral properties of the covariance function, the Karhunen-Loeve expansion is used to represent these processes to overcome this difficulty. Then, a spectral approximation for the stochastic response (solution) of the SDE is obtained based on the implementation of the concept of generalized inverse defined by the Neumann expansion. This leads to an explicit expression for the solution process as a multivariate polynomial functional of a set of uncorrelated random variables that enables us to compute the statistical moments of the solution vector. To check the validity of this method, two applications are introduced which are, randomly loaded simply supported reinforced concrete beam and reinforced concrete cantilever beam with random bending rigidity. Finally, a more general application, randomly loaded simply supported reinforced concrete beam with random bending rigidity, is presented to illustrate the method.

  • On the advent of digital era, ECDIS has emerged as a new navigation aid that should result in significant benefits to safe navigation. More than simply a graphics display, ECDIS is a new concept navigation system capable of providing integrated information of geographical and texual data. As an official vector data for ECDIS, ENC consists of spatial and feature data to describe objects in form of points, lines and areas. IHO published International Standards for ENC, such as S-52(Specification for Chart Content and Display Aspects of ECDIS) and S-57(IHO Transfer Standard for Digital Hydrographic Data). This paper deals with the implementation of an ENC representation system which meets S-52 presentation specification and S-57 transfer standards by analyzing S-57 data structures and converting them to an appropriate internal data structures and representing them onto screen adopting S-52 presentation specification.

  • The safe level for residential structures has usually been prescribed as just 'particle velocity' in various specifications in Korea. It implies that there is a possibility of interpreting the 'particle velocity' as the PPV (Peak Particle Velocity), PVS (Peak Vector Sum), or something else, depending on the interpreter. As a result, there have always been some difficulties in both designing a controlled blasting and controling the blast-induced ground vibrations. This paper is intended to show what the role of the safe level criteria such as PPV or PVS is, and also how we should use the concept of the scaled distance equation in a controlled blast design. The paper also emphasizes the importance of the allowable level for various residential structures and its uses in each stage of the controlled blast design.

  • The Web is the largest distributed information space but, the individual's capacity to read and digest contents is essentially fixed. In these Web environments, mining traversal patterns is an important problem in Web mining with a host of application domains including system design and information services. Conventional traversal pattern mining systems use the inter-pages association in sessions with only a very restricted mechanism (based on vector or matrix) for generating frequent K-Pagesets. We extend a family of novel algorithms (termed WebPR - Web Page Recommend) for mining frequent traversal patterns and then pageset to recommend. We add a WebPR(A) algorithm into a family of WebPR algorithms, and propose a new winWebPR(T) algorithm introducing a window concept on WebPR(T). Including two extended algorithms, our experimentation with two real data sets, including LadyAsiana and KBS media server site, clearly validates that our method outperforms conventional methods.

  • Cross-Language Information Retrieval (CLIR) deals with the documents in various languages by one language query. A user who uses one language can retrieve the documents in another language through CLIR system. In CLIR, query translation method is known to be more efficient. For the better performance of query translation, we need more resources like dictionary, ontology, and parallel/comparable corpus but usually not available. This paper proposes a new concept called the Common Base Axis which is adapted to Korean-English Query translation ann a new weighting method in dictionary based query translation. The essential idea is that we can express Korean and English word in one vector space by Common Base Axis and use it in calculating sense distance for query weighting. The experiments show that Common Base Axis gives us good performance without ontology and is especially good for one word query translation.

  • Currently be proceeded a lot of researchers for 'user information demand description' for interface of an information retrieval system or Web search engines, but user information demand description for a natural language form is a difficult situation. These reasons are as they cannot provide the semantic similarity that an information retrieval model can be completely satisfied with variety regarding an information demand expression and semantic relevance for user information description. Therefore, this study using the description logic that is a knowledge representation base of OWL and a vector model-based weight between concept, and to be able to satisfy variety regarding an information demand expression and semantic relevance proposes a decision way for perfect assistances of user information demand description. The experiment results by proposed method, semantic similarity of a polyseme and a synonym showed with excellent performance in decision.

  • In this paper, a method of station keeping strategy using relative orbital motion and numerical optimization technique is presented for geostationary spacecraft. Relative position vector with respect to an ideal geostationary orbit is generated using high precision orbit propagation, and compressed in terms of polynomial and trigonometric function. Then this relative orbit model is combined with optimization scheme to propose a very efficient and flexible method of station keeping planning. Proper selection of objective and constraint functions for optimization can yield a variety of station keeping methods improved over the classical ones. Results from the nonlinear simulation have been shown to support such concept.
