Robust Design of Structural and Mechanical Systems using Concept of Allowable Load Set (허용하중집합 개념을 이용한 기계/구조 시스템의 강건 설계)

  • The concept of "Allowable Load Set (ALS)" introduced by the author allows an easy understanding of load and strength characteristics of a structure in relation to its integrity under uncertainties. Two criteria of safety are introduced: A relative safety index denotes the distance to the boundary of the ALS and a normalized safety index is a distance in terms of functional value. They have been utilized in several examples, including multi-body mechanical systems such as a biomechanical system. Both formulations amount to robust designs in the sense that designs most insensitive to uncertainties are obtained in the context of newly defined safety indices, without using any input probability information.

  • 과학 모델은 복잡한 자연현상을 단순화하고 패턴화한 것이다. 따라서 과학 모델은 특정한 알고리즘을 가지며, 과학 모델에 대한 이해는 모델이 갖는 특정한 알고리즘에 대한 이해와 직접적으로 관련되어있다. 본 연구에서는 많은 학생들이 대안 개념을 가지고 있는 산-염기를 주제로 하여, 이 모델이 가지는 알고리즘을 학습하기 위한 프로그램을 설계하고, 알고리즘을 학습 하였을 때 과학 학습에 미치는 효과를 확인하였다. 고등학생 3학년을 대상으로 4차시로 수업을 진행하였으며, 수업의 사전과 사후 검사를 실시하여, 학생들의 모델에 대한 이해를 분석하였다. 수업 결과, 학생들은 모델의 정의와 화학반응 및 화학평형의 정성적인 부분에서는 이해의 향상을 보였으나, 정량적인 부분에는 효과를 보이지 못하였다. 이는 화학이 많은 수의 입자를 고려해야 하는 독특한 과목의 특성에 기인하며, 이를 보완하기 위하여 추후 컴퓨터프로그램을 교육 도구로 사용하는 수업을 통해 후속연구를 진행하고자 한다.

  • The nature accompanies with natural and ecological truth, worsening living environment without think using of our nature. Now, the sustainable researches to study peculiarities in ecological dwellings considered with nature and the development of human life's quality in housing itself, have been progressing. Also it is needed to show understanding about ecological dwellings in the user participant's consciousness such as, unification thought with nature, circulation thought of substance, and environment friendly thought of the traditional housing. Chose five examples which is applying ecological architectural concept by each Chungbuk, Chungnam, Jeonbuk, Gyeongbuk, Gyeonggi district and I investigated change of exterior or interior material, application of ecological system, and etc. With these background, this study will survey cases of ecological dwellings and find peculiar characteristics of ecological dwellings through researching the correlation between the concept in user's consciousness and application method.

  • A study to synthesize the recent concept and significance of quality and quality control has been performed in this paper. With understanding the recent market and manufacturing environment, we first discuss the significance of quality from the system view point. Then the existing definitions of quality have been rigourously examined and some significant features embeded in them have been derived. Through this examination, we specifically address "endless-effort for improvement" with three key elements required for successful implementation in quality control programs. Taguchi's quadratic loss function with regard to the addressed quality concept has also been discussed. Finally, we conclude this study with providing a view toward the development of new models.

  • The main concept of this thesis is to research about how to express the interface element of the virtual museum on tile cyber space and how to evaluate its organization. In addition, the basis of this thesis is to help people build their efficient spaces on the current virtual museum. My understanding about the interface element and its structural evaluation is grounded on Usability evaluation and Syntax thesis. For the survey, I utilize two different methods. One is regular questionnaire; the other is heuristic evaluation which is derived from empirical study and practical experience. The survey is mainly composed of contents, design, usability and overall impression. The main concept of this research is to establish the initial foundation of the virtual museum on cyber space by suggesting an objective evolutional norm including esthetic orientation.

  • In this paper, bus station design is presented as a component of public design to develop the integrated city public image of Daejeon Metropolitan City through the study of city characteristics and the direction of future development. Design concept is the mutual understanding of public image and human centered sense, and comfortable bus station which is correspond with future development direction and applicable for digital informationization is selected. Design components are bus shelter, information board, bench, vending machine, a wastebasket, billboards and so forth.

A Study on the Handling of 'Compound Particles' in the Teaching of Korean Particle Combination (한국어 조사 결합 교육에서의 복합조사 처리에 대한 고찰)

  • This research examined compound particles, which have not been properly addressed in existing studies on particle combination education, from the perspective of Korean language education as a second language. First, existing research was examined with the understanding of the issue that there is a lack of discussion in existing studies on the education method of either including the compound particle in particle combination or excluding it all together. In the next chapter, an examination was made on the concept and usage of terminology for compound particles in the field of Korean linguistics. Following a summary of this information, a review was made on the list of compound particles established in Korean linguistics. Thus, seven compound particles were identified for Korean language education considering discriminant standard and educational effectiveness from the perspective of Korean language education. The researcher proposes that the compound particle should be taught as an extension of particle combination education and that its concept should be clearly outlined as a direction for future education.

Improving Computational Thinking Comprehension through Visualized Sorting App Development

  • Computational thinking refers to the process and method of solving everyday problems using computers. When teaching a computational thinking class for computer majors and non-majors at university, the easiest example to deliver the concept of computational thinking is sorting. Sorting is the concept of arranging given data in order. In this work, we have implemented four visualized sorting algorithms that anyone can easily use. In particular, it helps to understand the difference between the algorithms by showing the number of comparisons and exchanges between elements, which are the criteria for evaluating the performance of the sorting algorithm in real time. It was confirmed that the practice of using the sorting visualization app developed in this research contributed to the improvement of students' understanding of computational thinking.

High School Exploration of a Phase Change Material as a Thermal Energy Storage

  • The present study describes a hands-on experiment to help students understand the concept of phase change or phase transition and its application in a phase change material (PCM). PCMs are substances that have the capability of storing and releasing large amounts of thermal energy. They act as energy storage materials that provide an effective way to save energy by reducing the electricity required for heating and cooling. Lauric acid (LA) was selected as an example of the PCM. Students investigated the temperature change of LA and the temperature (of air) inside the test tube. The differences in the temperatures of the systems helped students understand how PCMs work. A one-group pretest and posttest design was implemented with 34 grade-11 students in science and mathematics. Students' understanding was assessed using a multiple-choice test and a questionnaire. The findings revealed that the designed activity helped students understand the concept of phase change and its application to materials for thermal energy storage.

  • In this paper, we investigated and analyzed how freshmen in science and engineering colleges understand the limit and the continuous concept of function. The survey found that there were more college students who did not do so than those who understood each concept by linking the concepts together. Therefore, in order to teach college general mathematics, It is necessary to analyze how college students are connecting mathematical concepts. And it is necessary to apply teaching-learning methods suitable for individuals.
