A Critical Review on the Inherent Problems of MOOC (MOOC(Massive Open Online Course)의 근원적인 문제점들에 대한 비판적 고찰)

  • MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) is an online course aimed at limited participation and open access via the web. There is even the prospect that MOOC may break down the existing university system and open a new horizon of education. However, MOOC is going differently from the first prospect that it would threat the existing higher education institutions. So this study wishes to provide a starting point of discussion that we can produce and utilize MOOC to fit our situation of higher education by revealing the inherent problems of MOOC. MOOC is a basically online education, so that it cannot help inheriting the essential weakness of the existing one: the interaction, supervision and evaluation. The newly added concept 'massive' raises the problem of class size which is the most sensitive part in the field of education. The concept 'open' reverses a customized education because MOOC is a kind of video clips of a lecture for unspecific massive learners. As a conclusion, we predicts that MOOC will be positioned as a higher education service for very prominent learners in self-led learning ability and people who cannot access even traditional online higher education institutions. Also MOOC is highly likely to be used as a means of Flipped Learning in universities. Therefore, considering these points in the future, we need to develop MOOC to suit these targets.

Exploring the Characteristics of the Content and Organization of Elementary School Science Textbooks from the Perspective of the Astronomical Spatial Concept (천문학적 공간 개념 측면에서 초등학교 과학 교과서의 내용 및 조직의 특징 탐색)

  • This study intends to explore the content and organization characteristics of elementary school science textbooks in the astronomical domain from the perspective of understanding the astronomical spatial concept. This study analyzed the relevant unit of the achievement criteria in the 2015 revised science curriculum for the 'space' domain in elementary school science textbooks in comparison with that in secondary school textbooks according to the spatial concept analysis criteria by texts, illustrations, and inquiry activities. As a result, elementary school science textbooks were found to be organized around phenomena rather than concepts, targeting observable celestial bodies linked to real life in order to optimize the amount of learning content. However, the learning contents of astronomical observation related to observation and phenomena-centered real life should stimulate the curiosity and imagination of elementary school students and encourage their intellectual participation. Students need to be supported for understanding of the spatial concept to find an answer to the question of 'why'. The content organization for core concepts should be organized around the transferable spatial concept rather than simply focusing on presenting results by accurately describing the phenomena observed by students through scientific practice in order for students to answer various questions that arise in the course of scientific practice.

The Development and Implementation of Problem-Based Learning Package in Physical Therapy (물리치료학에서의 PBL 학습교재 개발 및 적용)

  • Within physical therapy education, there has been increased attention to curricula and course that emphasize problem solving, clinical reasoning, and synthesis of information across traditional discipline-specific boundaries. This article describes the development implementation, and outcomes of a problem-based learning course in Physical therapy. The course was designed to help students to integrate the various elements of a physical therapy curriculum and to enhance their abilities to respond to an ever-changing health care environment. An evaluation of the course by the first 50 students who completed it revealed both strengths and weaknesses. Students responded that the course enhanced their professional behavior, including interpersonal communication skills, team work, and follow-through with professional responsibilities. The learning package was developed by the authors and implemented to a college students during three weeks of the first semester of 2001. Most studies which conducted PBL module development were short period or temporary PBL package application and evaluation rather than a whole semester's. While, this study carried on partial integrated PBL curriculum development and application with recomposing content of the two subjects to one subject Physical therapy which includes four PBL packages. This package was developed from a simple concept to complex and partial integrated PBL curriculum application systematically variable learning methods such as discussion, practice, lecture, video. There are 2 classes, each class has 25 students, in the college. Each class has 5 small groups consisting 5 students. Two tutors proceeded discussion charging each class also, they used multiple methods and materials like tutorials, self-directed learning, lecture, and video. The package is 5 grades and 5 hours per week and the rate of discussion, lecture is 4, 1 respectively. One of the most change is the increase of interaction between students and tutors. Whenever students need information and suggestion, they can visit tutors who provide reading materials and guide for the direction of self learning. Therefore, this study describes the PBL package development process and application during one semester recomposing contents of two subjects to Physical therapy concepts. Besides, it will contribute to active application of existing each subject to tutors who intend to convert as PBL methods. The study has significant meaning to show potentiality of partially integrated PBL application, using systematic PBL package development from two subjects contents. However, when students' need of yearning is over the extent of Introduction of Physical therapy and Rehabilitation medicine, tutors should set learning extent. So, there is limitation to attain completely integrated PBL education within one subject, therefore, it is high lighted to proceed development of integrated curriculum to maximize learning effects of PBL. It is exected that partial integrated PBL package development and application will distribute to prosper excellent physiotherapist in practice.

A Study on UI/UX and Understanding of Computer Major Students

  • In this study, we showed understanding and production ability of the interface about internet, operating system, contents, and devices. This study aimed to make a list of 18 items in 4 areas for basic knowledge of UI/UX, establishment of design research, design concept, and design production for 22 sophomore, junior and senior students in IT departments, and the results of understanding were divided into three groups of excellent, normal, and insufficient, and evaluated. It was found that excellent was 18.39%, average was 38.52% and insufficient was 43.07%. Therefore, 18.39% of the students understood UI/UX, and 81.61% of students did not understand UI/UX well. In particular, in the comparison analysis of four areas, the design research area was 44 points, the design content area was 29 points, and the design production area was 11 points which was found to be the lowest. Next, the 10 evaluation items in the mobile UI/UX build guide evaluation were evaluated in the same way as the UI/UX understanding, and the excellent score was 3 points, the average score was 73.3 points, and the poor score was 155 points. The UI/UX build guides showed worse evaluation than UI/UX understanding. Therefore, to cultivate UI/UX understanding and content production ability, UI/UX experts should be fostered with professional course organization and systematic curriculum.

  • Since comprehensive examination of flexible pavement is complex, evaluation of its condition has been based on subjective judgements. Especially, qualitative measure of pavement has been based on linguistic expressions which often cause misinterpretation. There has been no such a criterion that can appropiately assess pavement status. Therefore, this study was devised to develop an approach, using fuzzy set concept, for evaluation of current and expected service conditions of flexibel pavement surface course. An example study was conducted to verify its usefulness. Since arithematic operation of fuzzy set can quantify the linguistic values and translate them into illustrative models, the results shown in the example was easy for anyone to understand.

  • Most of established study about consumer behavior was directly connected abstract value with concrete purchase behavior, nevertheless several recognizable process is intervened between abstract concept and concept behavior. Of course researchers suggest hierarchical causality through means-end chain model. However empirical study is insufficient. And it's not certain whether the consumer's personal value affects actual evaluation about product attributes. Thus the purpose of this paper was to explore hierarchical causality of personal value, benefits sought and clothing product attributes and to suggest an alternative approach method. For the empircial study the data sets were collected through 150 female consumers living in Pusan and SAS and LISREL VIII were used for statistical analysis. As the result, hierarchical causality suggested by means-end chain model was positively substantiated. That is, benefits sought is differentiated according to personal value, and actual product attributes are indirectly influenced by personal value through benefits sought. Benefits sought are found to be key mediating variables.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to present a procedure for developing a PBL package and to provide the example of its application. Method: In this study, the PBL package was proposed based on the integrated curricular under maternity nursing. The PBL package model proposed by Little was applied to this study. Result: The procedure for developing the PBL package includes course objectives, learning objectives, concept mapping, situation scenario, tutor guide, and evaluation method. Clinical scenarios used in 3 PBL packages were composed of a pregnant women, a childbirth women, and a postpartum women. The Eight detailed steps are given in this study. Conclusion: Through these findings, the steps might be easier and more useful for nurse professionals to begin using the PBL package in maternity nursing. In addition, the steps will actively contribute to imply the PBL in nursing education.

  • Dawin Friction Corp. has been advanced sintered brake pad for Korean concept high speed train (so called G7 train) with KRRI, You Jin and Rotem without the assistance of foreign company. In the course of development, the evaluation of our and foreign disk pads was performed by lab scale dynamometer and full scale dynamometer. As the result of dynamo test, it is shown that our developed brake disk is equal or superior to those of foreign companies in many respects, for example, wear resistance, noise, etc. The new brake pad which is developed through 'post G7-project' is equipped with G7 train and is under many tests without any problems at the present moment.

  • Software Education will be implemented at elementary, middle and high schools starting in 2018. The goal of software education is to help students develop Computational thinking skills. Computational thinking is largely composed of abstraction and automation. However, the concepts related to abstraction are defined differently for each country, giving confusion to students and teachers. Therefore, in this paper several definitions of abstraction are compared and defined reasonably. And we proposed an abstraction teaching method and evaluation criteria in elementary school based on a reasonable definition. The definition of abstraction presented in this paper is expected to be able to present a solution to the problems encountered in the course of software education in the future.

The effect of intellectual property education in College liberal arts course : Focusing on Analysis of Students' Perception Change (사범대학내 지식재산 교양 강좌 개설 및 운영 효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to elucidate the necessity of opening a lecture on intellectual property education by confirming the effect of the lecture on intellectual property education in the college students. For the study, IP program was developed for the course through literature review, and supplemented it with expert review. The developed course program was applied to 39 students for 15 weeks. In order to verify the effectiveness of the lecture, the survey was performed. And analysis method for the concept change analysis and the keyword formation analysis were performed. For the analysis, SPSS 24, UCINET and Netdraw were used. The results were as follows. First, the lecture on intellectual property education positively changed the value, necessity, and perception of intellectual property to the students. Second, the students of the lecture on intellectual property education responded that the lecture on the intellectual property should be increased. Third, through the lecture on intellectual property education, students formed basic concept about intellectual property centered on key word. The intellectual property lecture program developed and applied in this study is difficult to apply to all university situations, but it is expected to be referenced in the establishment and operation of related lectures and to be derived in various forms.
