  • An elastic cable with piecewise constant properties under the action of concentrated static loads is studied analytically. Analytic solutions for catenary cables are combined at the discontinuous points caused by the discontinuous elastic properties or concentrated loads. The application of the boundary conditions at both ends of the multi-component cable results in three algebraic non-linear equations for three unknown parameters, which are determined numerically. The solutions for the shape, tension, elongation, and cross-sectional contraction of the cable are expressed in closed forms. Some examples are given for cases of two- and three-dimensional loads.

  • In the present paper, multiple interface cracks between a functionally graded orthotropic coating and an orthotropic half-plane substrate under concentrated loading are considered by means of the distribution dislocation technique (DDT). With the use of integration of Fourier transform the problem is reduced to a system of Cauchy-type singular integral equations which are solved numerically to compute the dislocation density on the surfaces of the cracks. The distribution dislocation is a powerful method to calculate accurate solutions to plane crack problems, especially this method is very good to find SIFs for multiple unequal cracks located at the interface. Hence this technique allows considering any number of interface cracks. The primary objective of this paper is to investigate the effects of the interaction of multiple interface cracks, load location, material orthotropy, nonhomogeneity parameters and geometry parameters on the modes I and II SIFs. Numerical results show that modes I/II SIFs decrease with increasing the nonhomogeneity parameter and the highest magnitude of SIF occurs where distances between the load location and crack tips are minimal.

  • A large concentrated load is often transferred to reinforced concrete footing in a tall building. In this study, a foundation system which used high strength precast concrete bearing plate was proposed. This concrete bearing plate has to be strong enough to resist the column load. However, a sufficient bearing strength may not be provided if the column load is too high and the concrete of bearing plate does not have enough strength.

  • In this paper, we propose an Intelligent Monitoring Network System(IMNS) for the truck scale balance system. Truck scale balance system consis of three parts; Load cell part, Indicator part, and Junction box part. IMNS is attached to Junction box in truck scale balance system. Even if Load cell have been some problems, a truck scale balance system still has been run to determine, the values involved error. Therefore prosed system is has concentrated on Load cell part. Other Parts have been changed a portion of circuit for monitoring system.

  • This paper presents the standard for dividing/tieing the distribution lines and installing optimally the automated distribution switch-gear in multi-line faults. Also this paper recommends the distribution system design in consideration of the live load transfer of the concentrated load in the last load-side. This recommendation will be useful for designing the distribution network, developing the feeder automation software and operating the distribution automation system.

  • The safety and the durability of the shock absorber as an automotive chassis part under the fatigue load can be predicted in this study. The fatigue life becomes constant from 0.5 to 0.75 at the change of load which is the amplitude load divided by average load. But its life is sharply decreased at the change of load from 0.75 to 1.5. The influence of fatigue life according to the change of load can be predicted by these results. As the value of maximum damage is 9.61 at the middle part of upper side on shock absorber under the concentrated load, there is the greatest possibility of destruction at this part. The spring of shock absorber becomes nearly the state of pure shear and the uniaxial or biaxial stress exists at the rest part of it under the fatigue load.

  • This paper presents the dynamic stability of a cantilevered Timoshenko beam with a concentrated mass, partially attached to elastic foundations, and subjected to a follower force. Governing equations are derived from the extended Hamilton's principle, and FEM is applied to solve the discretized equation. The influence of some parameters such as the elastic foundation parameter, the positions of partial elastic foundations, shear deformations, the rotary inertia of the beam, and the mass and the rotary inertia of the concentrated mass on the critical flutter load is investigated. Finally, the optimal attachment ratio of partial elastic foundation that maximizes the critical flutter load is presented.

  • A strategy of the optimal shape design with FEA(Finite Element Analysis) for 2-D structure is proposed by comparing subproblem approximation method with first order approximation method. A cantilever beam with two different loading conditions, a concentrated load and an evenly distribute load, and truss structure with a concentrated loading condition are implemented to optimize the shape. It gives a good design strategy on the optimal truss structure as well as the optimal cantilever beam shape. It is found that the convergence is quickly finished with the iteration number below ten. Optimized shapes of cantilever beam and truss structure are shown with stress contour plot by the results of the subproblem approximation method and the first order approximation methd.

  • The shear behavior of simply supported reinforced concrete deep beams subject to concentrated loads has been scrutinized experimentally to verify the influence of the structural parameters such as shear span ratio, and the horizontal and vertical web reinforcements. A total of 27 specimens has been tested at the laboratory. In the tests all specimens have failed in shear causing inclined cracks from the load application points to the supports. The load bearing capacities have changed significantly depending on the shear span ratio. The effects of the vertical and horizontal reinforcements on the shear strength and crack initiation and propagation have been carefully checked and analyzed.
